BANGKOK - For the first time, an experimental vaccine has prevented infection with the AIDS virus, a watershed event in the deadly epidemic and a surprising result. Recent failures led many scientists to think such a vaccine might never be possible.

The vaccine cut the risk of becoming infected with HIV by more than 31 percent in the world's largest AIDS vaccine trial of more than 16,000 volunteers in Thailand, researchers announced Thursday in Bangkok.

30% reduction in the chance of contracting a deadly disease. There is a way to reduce chances by 100%...

Yes... abstinence works 100% every time it’s tried.

If the vaccine reduced the risk of infection by only 31%, how many of the 16,000 volunteers are now out spreading AIDS?

Yep, but don’t try to tell the gays that.... you’ll be sued for hate speech.

Sounds to me like the Queers are going to be extinct after all since this is probably bull..I would not even trust anyone now a days..I ask them what about the other diseases that are now going rampant in the world because of filthy people screwing animals and people that are infected with them..Will it also gives those morons a false sense of security so they can do anything they want..

31% isn't much, but it’s a start.

Ok, I know how most of you feel about gays and others spreading the disease, but what about those who would get it secnd hand...the girl who was infected by her dentist some years ago, for example, or those who contracted AIDS from blood transfusions? Ok, there was underlying bad behavior by the dentist and those who donated infected blood, but in those cases, those who contracted the disease in these ways are innocents. Should we allow them to die bebecause of something that wasn't their fault?

I wouldn't want a vaccine to excuse and protect those whose bad behavior cause their disease, but I wouldn't want to withhold a vaccine or treatment from those who are infected through no fault of their own.

I don’t think that anyone is arguing that there are positive uses for this vaccine, the argument is the false sense of security most people will get. I think that at the end of the day the question will be if a cure or vaccine for AIDS will have a positive or negative effect on Society. Ever since the ‘sexual liberation’ in the 60’s and 70’s, our society has be going to hell in a handbasket...there is no arguing with that.

Terrifying. I'm waiting for a gov't mandate to get vaccinated.

Right now, the only way I can get Aids is through a tainted transfusion. I'll put those odds at "statistically nil".

Why would I raise them, even fractionally, by taking a vaccine?

Good news?...

Not necessarily. A vaccine that reduces the chance of infection by only 31% will only provide false security and encourage promiscuous behavior.

It will result in more HIV, not less.
