US, France walk out during Ahmadinejad's UN speech

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) – France on Wednesday led a walkout of a dozen delegations, including the United States, to protest a fiery speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the UN General Assembly.

"It is disappointing that Mr Ahmadinejad has once again chosen to espouse hateful, offensive and anti-Semitic rhetoric," Mark Kornblau, spokesman to the US mission to the United Nations, said in a statement.

Delegations from Argentina, Australia, Britain, Costa Rica, Denmark, France Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand and the United States left the room as Ahmadinejad began to rail against Israel, a European source said.

Israel had already called for a boycott of the speech, and was not present when the Iranian leader began his address. Canada had already said it would heed the boycott call.

In his address, Ahmadinejad again took aim at Israel without mentioning the country or Jews by name, referring only to the "Zionist regime."

The firebrand leader, re-elected in disputed June elections, accused Israel of "inhumane policies in Palestine."

These folks would be happy to take any open seats in the Assembly, I'm sure. ;-)

It should make him feel right at home, having protesters outside. :-)

The firebrand leader, re-elected in disputed June elections, accused Israel of "inhumane policies in Palestine."

And Obama called the Israeli settlements on Israeli land "illegitimate." I suspect Hussein-O and Achmanutjob are closer on the question of Israel than many think.

Good to see anyone demonstrate against him.

I still go back to a couple of twitter pages of two Iranians we got a lot of info from during the demonstrations- they’ve never been heard from.

Big deal.

If the Americans and French really had any character they would have walked out during Obama’s anti-America tirade.

Ronald Reagan would have considered finding Kadhafi and Ahmadinejad in the same place at the same time to be the biggest stroke of targeting luck ever.

They walked out? Outstanding! That’ll teach him a lesson. He will be unable to sleep tonight agonizing over it. Surely, for the sake of all humanity, someone somewhere has him on suicidal watch. He simply won’t be able to deal with this rejection on his own without some professional counseling. Has anyone notified the local authorities in NY?
