If you live/vote in California, and have not yet contacted the Governor about this wrong-headed bill (AB962), please do so right away! The bill is now on his desk for action.
I received this below in email from Cabela's today... (...and had previously received a similar warning from the NRA, and several other sources, on the same topic. I hope you have, too, but if not, here it is.)
If you know of others who would be similarly concerned, please also alert them to this, soonest. (If you want more information, just type AB962 into your favorite search engine, to get all the grim details.)
Thanks,
-SB

NON-criminals however, should be concerned. Every ounce of additional gun-control regulation brings with it a POUND of costs. This bill is no exception. You think ammunition costs are high NOW? ...Just wait.

(Please FReepmail if you want on, or off, this list. I certainly have no desire to increase anyones stress-level. Thanks!!!)
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Where are you buying from?
And yes, I'm already out of .380 fruitcake
(916) 445-2841 (may have to hit redial a few times to get through) then: option 1, option 2, option 2, option 2 to oppose.
The full weight and authority of gun (and ammunition) control legislation falls not upon the criminal classes but upon the law-abiding, for it is the innocent man, and not the criminal, who is their true subject.
He who hesitates, is LOST!!!
Our once-Golden State is bankrupt; yet the Dems in the legislature choose to harass tax-payers (in this case, gun owners) to relocate to "red" states.
Notwithstanding the Second Amendment argument, perhaps Arlen Schwarzenegger will see tax money drain and the impact of more unemployment and vacant houses should he sign this horrible bill.
.
They will probably make it a crime to transport ammunition across the state line as well. Every gun owner in California that can afford to do so should get a Federal Firearms License.

In 1982 the people of California rejected Prop 15 which would have banned handguns in that state. Since that time the legislaure has tried everything they could to bypass that referendum to ban something that makes a bang!
thanks
Maybe the next "shot heard 'round the world" will happen in California.
Get the ACLU on the horn...

"F***in California."
God Bless Texas.

I, for one, wouldn’t p*** on the place if it was on fire. Which it is quite often.
On the other hand, maybe I would p*** on the place, even if it WASN’T on fire.

I had already sent him an over-long fax (couldn't turn off the rant in time to keep it to one page...grin) last week when the NRA 'went on alert', but another bit of encouragement to him to veto de Leon's latest POS can't hurt, I guess.
Thanks again for making it so easy!!!
I get all my fruitcake on line. Another brick & mortar shop would have the same problem the current one's do - empty shelves.
Dan delivered some more .40 S & W fruitcake today.
My son is home during the day, so is able to answer the door for UPS / FedEx / USPS.
Dan would be the UPS driver. Dan told my son a couple deliveries ago that "when the SHTF" (not if, when), "I know where I'm comin' to hide!"
My son and the UPS driver - first name basis. "Tell your Dad I said "Hi" and I hope I get to meet him sometime."
I love fruitcake. I have a lot of fruitcake. All different sizes of fruitcake. About every other weekend the boy and I go out into this beautiful desert on a "fruitcake expedition."
Fruitcake is good!
I’m have been emailing him about this and today I ordered a ton of Ammo while I can still get it through the mail. Hopefully he will not sign this as the legislature doesn’t have enough votes to override it. Every Republican in the house voted against this, which is to their credit, it barely passed.

Thanks, SW!
...but HEY! To many here in government, it’s merely another opportunity to hire more state employees! What’s the harm???
/sarc
The expressed will of the people, except in instances wherein the government has been voted additional monies to spend, is often thwarted in this state. Sadly, your example just one... of a long, long, list of such.
Thanks! I hadn’t seen all those before.
What a great state (/sarc)
Thanks. I don’t know how or why California folks deal with such lunacy. No matter what has happened in NH, any attempt to pass the same law here would be met with something approaching insurrection.
Yes, fruitcake is good, especially in large quantities!
Oh shoot!!! I thought you were talking about a cool place to order adequate cheap fruitcake for cheap target practicing whilst "Plinking" in the National Forest to discourage Mexican Nationals from growing Marijuana.
Talk about ammunition becoming gold, so's that MaryJane stuff. By the way... now I know why fruitcake is so danged heavy!!! (actually that stuff makes ideal targets for plinking)
Thanks SB. G’night all.
Thanks for the ping!
Thanks.
We can’t have enough posts on this.
I posted what I got in my email re this bill from Cabela’s earlier:

California AB 962: Ban all mail-order and Internet sales of handgun ammunition.
Cabelas Email to California Cabela’s Customers ^ | 22 Sept 2009 | Cabela’s Management

To: Cabela’s California Customers From: Cabela’s Communications Subject: California Assembly Bill 962 Date: Sept. 22, 2009
We are writing to inform you of pending legislation that will restrict purchases of handgun ammunition in California and will terminate our ability to service your needs for certain products.
On Friday, Sept. 11, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 962, by a 44-31 vote.
Among other regulations, AB 962 would:
Ban all mail-order and Internet sales of handgun ammunition. Prohibit the retail sale, the offer for sale or the display of handgun ammunition in a manner that allows ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without assistance of a vendor or employee. Require that the delivery or transfer of ownership of handgun ammunition occur in a face-to-face transaction, with the deliverer or transferor being provided bona fide evidence of identity of the purchaser or other transferee.
That evidence of identity, which must be legibly recorded at the time of delivery, includes:
The right thumbprint of the purchaser or transferee. The date of the sale or other transaction. The purchaser’s or transferee’s driver’s license or other identification number and the state in which it was issued. The brand, type and amount of ammunition sold or otherwise transferred. The purchaser’s or transferee’s signature. The name of the salesperson who processed the sale or other transaction. The purchaser’s or transferee’s full residential address and telephone number. The purchaser’s or transferee’s date of birth.
The bill is on the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, where it awaits his consideration. He will have until Oct. 11 to sign or veto the bill. If he does not veto the bill, it will become law.
If you wish to comment on AB 962, you may contact Gov. Schwarzenegger by phone at (916) 445-2841, or via fax at (916) 558-3160. To e-mail Gov. Schwarzenegger, visit http://gov.ca.gov/interact
We encourage all Cabela’s customers who participate in the shooting sports to contact Gov. Schwarzenegger to voice their opposition to this initiative, which will limit your opportunities to shop with Cabela’s, and will restrict the sale of handgun ammunition everywhere in California.
Yesterday, I got another heads up on this issue and another reason the Californiacating Legislature passed this bill:
Besides the obvious impact on 2nd amendment rights of Californians, this can be an tax raising bill for the state of California via our outrageous sales tax.
Cabela’s has no stores in California like many of the other on line ammo sellers, so Californicators can’t charge sales tax on ammo from these sellers when we order on line or by phone.
However, if this bill becomes law, we will have no choice, besides bringing in ammo from Nevada or Oregon, other than buying ammofrom stores in California. All ammo sold in California is and will be charged the sales tax.

Should it pass, AB 962 will take effect Feb. 1, 2011. A similar de Leon bill, AB 2062, which would have put a 50-round monthly cap on ammo sales, ...

...and I got this from NRA-ILA again today...
NRA-ILA Grassroots Alert Vol. 16, No. 38
CALIFORNIA: Two Anti-Gun Bills Head to Governor's Desk in California On Friday, September 11, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 962 by a 44 to 31 vote.
AB962 now joins Senate Bill 585 on the desk of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) where they await his consideration. Please contact the Governor immediately and respectfully urge him to veto these bills.
AB962 would require individuals purchasing ammunition to be fingerprinted and registered at the time of sale, and mandates that dealers keep these records and make them available for inspection by the California Department of Justice. Also, ammunition retailers would have to store ammunition in a manner that is inaccessible to purchasers. Finally, the bill would prohibit mail order ammunition sales. Over 20 years ago, Congress abolished similar requirements because ammunition sales records were found to be useless for solving crimes. AB962 is a dire threat to our Second Amendment rights in the Golden State.
SB585 would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition on the property or inside the buildings that comprise the Cow Palace in Daly City, just outside of San Francisco. SB585 is a stepping-stone to banning gun shows on all publicly-owned property in California.
Please contact Governor Schwarzenegger TODAY and respectfully urge him to veto AB962 and SB585. The Governor can be reached by phone at 916-445-2841 or via fax at 916-558-3160. To e-mail Governor Schwarzenegger, please visit http://gov.ca.gov/interact.
