President Obama made his first address to the U.N. General Assembly today. He had them at hello. Even his opening -- "It is my honor to address you as the 44th president of the United States" -- got a round of applause.
The reason? The latest Pew Global Attitudes Survey of 21 countries found global confidence in Obamas leadership on foreign affairs at 71% -- far higher than approval ratings at home (in the low 50% range) and even more striking matched against world opinion of George W. Bush last year, which Pew tracked at 17%.
To Nile Gardiner of London's Daily Telegraph, Obamas popularity at the U.N. "boils down essentially to his willingness to downplay American global power." Said the columnist:
The Obama mantra appears to be ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism.
For his part, Obama did expunge the cowboy diplomacy of his predecessor..."Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the worlds problems alone. We have sought in word and deed a new era of engagement with the world. Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges...."

They can keep him.
Talk about spin...he didn’t “wow” them. And his speech sounded quite a bit like one of his campaign speeches...long on appeal to place in history and devoid of details.
If the U.N. is happy about America, real Americans should be unhappy. If the U.N. is unhappy about America, real Americans should be thrilled.
BAD
If you are hired to run a store in the ‘hood, a quick way to become popular with your neighbors is to apologize for the owner’s high prices, and then give everything in the store away to them for free.
You might be surprised when the owner gets wise to the cause of your newfound popularity and fires you, however.
Of COURSE Hussein was a big hit at the UN. After all, he hates the United States as much as THEY do!
“For his part, Obama did expunge the cowboy diplomacy of his predecessor.” And, he replaced it with Chicago style machine politics with all its corruption.
Translation: Obama's hatred for America resonates with the envious masses worldwide.
That's because YOU DON'T LIVE HERE!
The overall global community must really love seeing the USA take it on the chin administered by its own president no less.
E’ff em all and condolences to freedom loving peoples worldwide who must also suffer their fool leaders!
A pushover is always popular for a while.
You foreign assholes want him, you can have him. We’ve seen more than enough of his ‘handiwork’.
People act as if anti-Americanism began because of George W. Bush and it should go away because Obama is the anti-Bush. In fact it’s been around for ages. I ran across a passing reference to anti-Americanism by a British scholar in something published in 1963 (so maybe written a year or two earlier), as if it was a well-known phenomenon in Europe at that time.
Dictators that play together, stay together.
Obozo attempted to make a joke about how his 9 months in office often feels like a lot more. There was zero laughter from the UN assembly. Contrast that with how our media would have busted a gut at that comment. I’m not so sure that Obozo has the world eating out of his hand. More like they see him as someone they can manipulate to their ends, which is why they like him as opposed to Bush.
As I write this, Obozo is on in the background, displaying his simplistic naivete to the envious idiots at the UN. This idealistic, narcissistic simpleton makes Chamberlain look like the Terminator.
He’s describing a leftist dominated utopia that is virtually impossible as it denies basic human nature.
If we took the first person pronouns out of the language, this poster boy for the Peter Principle would be speechless. But he found enough other words to toss Israel further into the increasingly crowded space under the bus.
He and Soros and the rest of his handlers are the living embodiment of Mencken’s warning that “The urge to save humanity is often a false front for the urge to rule.”
God help us!!
Let’s stop pretending that GWB was some kind of a conservative hero.
‘Cuz he wasn’t.
The members of the UN assembly who are the enemies of this nation will always be the enemies of this nation regardless of who occupies the WH. The only difference now is they have a comrade who is an occupier of the WH.
So he’s loved by the “Dictator Protection Agency”? It’s a badge of shame...
Compared to Obama he is...
“Of COURSE Hussein was a big hit at the UN. After all, he hates the United States as much as THEY do!”
Yep, you nailed it down!
Compared to the devil he’s what.............?
Nonsense all around here..........
The reason the UN like Obama and not bush is easy.
When Obama addresses the UN all of the foreign dignitaries are thinking to themselves “This guy is such a pushover, We can get what ever we want from the US, I think We are going to like this next 4 years”
When Bush addressed the UN the foreign dignitaries were thinking, “Man this guy is tough, this sucks he is not going to let us get away with screwing the US at all, It’s going to be a long 4 years.”
“To Nile Gardiner of London’s Daily Telegraph, Obamas popularity at the U.N. “boils down essentially to his willingness to downplay American global power.”
Ah, the world loves us because we are willing to become as weak as they are. At least they openly admit it.
Translation: He'll give us free American money, and demand nothing in return but a photo-op!

You started the off-topic strawman, fishtank...
...demand nothing in return, and smile as they dump on us.
Questions about Bush’s conservative principles

Latimer got the assignment to write Bush’s speech. Draft in hand, he and a few other writers met with the president in the Oval Office. Bush was decidedly unenthusiastic.
“What is this movement you keep talking about in the speech?” the president asked Latimer.
Latimer explained that he meant the conservative movement — the movement that gave rise to groups like CPAC.
Bush seemed perplexed. Latimer elaborated a bit more. Then Bush leaned forward, with a point to make.
“Let me tell you something,” the president said. “I whupped Gary Bauer’s ass in 2000. So take out all this movement stuff. There is no movement.”
I'm not Pres. Bush, either. Suppose I'd get a standing 'O'?
President George W. Bush is not the enemy of the USA.
The UN, and Obama in particular are, and a lot of you BDSers have joined their party. Your comment has nothing to do with the article or any previous posts. Just wanted to get your BDS 2 cents worth out there.
The United Nations is run by corrupt thugs and child rapists.
It is a vast culture of corruption.
Want to know why some nations didnt support the US going to war against Saddam? He paid them off.
Chavez, Castro, Gaddafi, and the UN cheered the election of Brakbrak Hussein Obama and he has sold out Honduras, Poland, and the Czech Republic to the Communists.
That is no foreign policy to CHEER, LAtte Times. Not good at all.
Who was it that put John Bolton in the UN?
And what group opposed him?
One week before the 9-11 attacks, the UN was trying to condem Israel and also trying to condemn the United States for having slavery in our past.
It is a socialist circle jerk.
Someone HAS to report if this pic was at the UN meeting in PA.
That is so photoshopped. And they reversed the “Angola” sign.
Other reason he is a muslim fellow/friend and UN is overwhelmingly pro-muslim and anti-Israel
It's the Scott McClellan syndrome--there's a surefire way to attack favorable media attention...make up stuff that makes President Bush look bad.
Cuz he wasnt.
Here we go again, BDS strikes again.

"Gooba gabba, one of us, one of us!!!"
U.N welcomes new Mafia member.
He is the DNC’s boogie man to blame for all of their current and up and coming failed policies.
Ain't that the truth! I was stationed in Germany during the late 70's. Never had a problem in the area that I lived in (small town).
Wellllllll...I now remember one instance. I was dining at one of my favorite places (wonderful cheeseburgers), and two teenagers were ranting about Americans. The owner was nervous, because he knew that I understood everything they were saying. I smiled at him and said, alles klar.
As I was leaving, I went over to the table and said in my best German, "you know, some Americans I know think some Germans are a$$holes, too!", with a smile, of course.
With a wink, I said tschuss to the owner, who was laughing his a$$ off.
Oh, my. That is soooo racist/sarc
Let me see: Bush . . . Obama . . . Bush . . . Obama - Sorry, I have to go with Bush.
Unpresidential is right!
BTTT!
