Khadafy booted from Camp Trump
NY Post ^ | September 23, 2009 | JEANE MacINTOSH and JENNIFER FERMINO

Unwelcome Libyan thug Moammar Khadafy briefly found a comfy spot to rest his foul head yesterday -- at Donald Trump's palatial estate in suburban Westchester.

But town officials in tony Bedford put the kibosh on the dictator's plans to use his Bedouin-style tent on the real-estate mogul's property, which Trump rents out for tens of thousands of dollars a month.

The wandering Khadafy -- who arrived in New York City yesterday to a zero's welcome -- was sent packing when a building inspector ordered his henchmen to stop erecting the white tent because they didn't have a work permit.

Was Donald Trump making money off of Kadaffi’s stay?

Does Trump make money off anything other than his investors?

I hate to be a killjoy on this thread but stop and think a minute.

1. The property had been rented out before. This was not unusual.

2. A work permit for a tent? Granted I know it was a big tent, wired for comfort and all but still a tent for people to sleep in for a few days and then it would be taken down.

Sorry, I have to come down on the property rights side of the issue.

Obama will put him up on the WH lawn and let him use the Marine choppers to go back and forth to NY.

A work permit for a tent?

Yes, in Westchester County, you need a work permit and/or a building permit - even to put up a shed that stores lawn furniture and that is not habitable. They know the codes and deliberately went against them.

Yes, I agree with permits for sheds, same in our county.

But a tent? By that - if your kids decide to have a back yard campout in tents for the weekend you need to got down to the city and get a work permit?

For one, they don’t use electricity in the kids backyard tent. Neighbors would not complain about that - they know the intent.

We will have to disagree on the issue.

I have set up a tent in my back yard for a weekend. A power cord was run to the big tent and the kids stayed out there and watched movies all night.

Electricity or not - the tent in question was being put up for a temporary use.

Had it been anyone else, I seriously doubt there would have been much of an objection.

That's ok - I'm not in agreement w/many of the codes/rules. Neighbors can complain to the town/county/village/city - and then they inspect to see if anything is out of order. In this case, obviously the neighbors complained and this tent building violated codes and were out of order. Different towns, different codes. Good for the neighbors!

YOUR situation is not this situation.

I can’t stand Khadafi. He’s a murderer and terrorist, but the town officials in Bedford actually look dumber than a box of rocks on this one. It’s a tent. Since when does a town inspector have to certify a tent? I suppose they would forbid Boy Scouts from tent camping too.

For Petes sake. My parents Homeowners Assoc. Would never allow something like this to be put up.

However, they probably can’t stop the trash from staying in the house.

As I mentioned to another poster, I seriously doubt that the officials would have said “boo” had it been anyone else pitching that tent.

Khadafy is about as welcome in NY as a skunk at a picnic and I have to believe that had as much to do with the authorities’ actions as anything.

Sure, government is obnoxious and intrusive but on rare occiasions it does the right thing. Khadafy is nothing but a blowhard tyrant and he proved it once again today in the UN. I’m glad Bedford made him uncomfortable.
