SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) -- A Somerset parent is upset because of a short film shown to his daughter's class at Pulaski County High School.
Bill Cruey told WYMT-TV in Hazard the film "Fitna" blamed the Islam religion for the 9-11 attacks on the United States. The film was shown on Sept. 11.
Cruey said his daughter is receiving counseling and has been pulled from the class after seeing images of beheadings, children being injured and dead bodies interspersed with readings from the Koran.
The film is by Dutch anti-immigration lawmaker Geert Wilders.
Pulaski County Superintendent Tim Eaton says the presentation was meant to commemorate 9-11 and discuss the dangers of extremism, but that the teacher used poor judgment showing the film. He said the matter has been dealt with, but declined to say whether the teacher was disciplined.
I wouldn’t want my kids to see “images of beheadings, children being injured and dead bodies” either.
parents hsould have been told that their kids would see such graphic images and they should have had the option not to watch.
It sounds almost as bad as watching TV. lol.
Its because it blames Muslims for the Muslim violence
Do your kids watch TV?
The reason is because Fitna shows Muslim terror for what it is.
“Cruey said his daughter is receiving counseling and has been pulled from the class after seeing images of beheadings, children being injured and dead bodies interspersed with readings from the Koran. “
Instead oc sending her to a stupid shrink she should have just swatted her on the backside!
Your headline refers to “Fatima” and the body of the article to “Fitna.” Which is it?
This is a High School.
Back when...they showed us carnage like that so we wouldn’t drink and drive or smoke pot...
Article says "Fitna".
which is correct?
Some kids just can’t handle seeing stuff like that and others can.
If they showed a guy being beheaded to my daughter she would probably paint the kid in front of her with her lunch. My son on the other hand would most likely critique the man’s choice in knives and technique.
Either way I would be p*ssed if they showed it too without warning.
Mods... please fix tag line to read “Fitna” instead of Fatima..... geez, its been a long day at work...
I remember watching films in school that documented the holocaust, even prior to high school. These films showed piles of emaciated dead bodies. I don’t remember any parents complaining about it.
The parents should have been allowed a choice, between their children watching the movie or sitting in another room with blinders on and their head covered with a bag. (sarc)
Me either.
I don’t really care to see them either.
I was never shown that back in the 70s when I was in high school.
Note that I'm not recommending that you actually abuse yourself ...
Depending on the age I want EVERYONE to see such images. It is important to know who the enemy is. This film shows exactly who the enemy is. This is no worse than studying the Holocaust or watching Saving Private Ryan or any other graphic images of war. It is the guarding of our sensitivities that makes us forget
Didn’t the parents know the teacher? Did they check her opinions and background before putting their child under her authority? Did her values line up with theirs?
If they didn’t research this person fully before placing their kid under her instruction, the parent is at fault. The parent alone is responsible for their child.
If you put your child under any adult authority, you better be sure where that authority stands...whether it’s in public, private or Sunday school. Otherwise, don’t complain.
The father is either of TROP or one of its useful infidels..
Fitna
Those carnage films were hilarious. Might find the old classics under Drunk Driving Films on you tube or Google.
You never saw ANYTHING about the concentration camps in WWII? I find that hard to believe. In junior high school my math/home room teacher had been on Crrigedor and spent the war in a camp in Manchuria. Every year on Dec 7th he told us about it. By 9th grade he told us much more detail than when we were younger. Trust me it was one of THE most educational experiences I ever had.
My daughter’s junior year in high school had a woman who was a concentration camp survivor come and talk to them. She got a chance ( up close and personal) to see what tyranny is capable of.
Too freaking bad!! I need counseling after seeing bodies falling out of the world trade center!!!
AMEN
On that note I had one English teacher force us to watch “Escape from Sobibor” even though I had seen it the night before. She said it was good we watched it, so that it would never happened again.
On the other hand — it is amazing that any school, anywhere, is showing the TRUTH about Islam. For that they should be applauded, imho. And yes, DO fear Islam — be very very afraid. They did perpetrate 9/11 and they want to behead YOU. Truth hurts, and all that.
Me neither, which is why I don’t practice Islam or live in a Muslim country.
Now hold on, how old is she?
I’ve seen that movie and no way in hell is it appropriate for young kids.
I did see things about the concentration camps (in black and white). I know I saw the survivors and then I think dead bodies. Nothing bloody, but it was black and white.
Also, we did have a concentration camp survivor come and talk to us.
I know they let our parents know about all of this in advance.
I don’t have a problem with this if they parents are told in advance. I think some kids can handle this sort of stuff, and some kids can’t.
Where would anyone get a crazy idea like that?
They can’t handle the truth!
I can’t handle watching Saving Private Ryan. My mom has never been able to handle watching anything violent (can’t handle watching images of the Holocaust, and wouldn’t go see the Passion of the Christ).
Better to see it in a movie than on their street.
It’s a high school, so not a young kid.
Now that we have Obambi as our pretend-president, it is more important than ever to tell the truth about the butchers of Islam. Once a Muslim, always a Muslim.
To start with Islam is to blame for 9/11; learn to live with facts!
Second, most TV today is as bad, could have been the new season of Sons of Anarchy.
The real issue here is, most people are deliberately misled regarding Islam, an extremist movement disguised as a religion; should be banned on its face. Due to the primary tenets of hate and violation of codified laws applied to any individual/group behavior which declares and promotes violence, advocates unlawful activity among members and conducts activities in violation of Civil, Human and Constitutional Rights.
I am all for “Fitna,” but minors should not be subjected to violent images without parental permission. I would not have my daughters watch such stuff. They would be traumatized for months.
My sons on the other hand would probably deal with it fine.
I’m the mom, I know what’s ok and what’s not for my own.
But Fitna is not as graphic as it could be. It does not show a beheading in real time (as do those DVDs popular in Middle Eastern Markets). Fitna’s images could be shown on Network TV.
In re the high school carnage film, I had to attend a class with my minor son after he got a ticket for driving without his headlights. We had to watch a “Red Asphalt” type film and look at photo albums full of accident scenes. I closed my eyes THE WHOLE TIME.
I can’t tolerate images like that. I can’t get them out of my head. I know my limits.
I’d never make a kid look at that.
Exactly! We were shown some of Hitler’s consentration films in Jr High scvhool but before we were shown them our parents were sent permission slips.
If you can’t stomach history then you will be doomed to repeat it ( with apologies to Santayana).
Look it is important for people to understand what war is all about. Fact is there are a whole slew of folks out there who don’t give a rat’s behind about your squimish stomache. they behead, they suicide bomb, they do honor killings. This is the face of the enemy. know it, recognize it, and be willing to call it what it is -——EVIL. The squimish end up in camps
Lots of things could be shown on Network TV.
I think you just let the parents know what’s going on and respect parents to know what to do with their own kids.
Some people just have low tolerance to violence, and I don’t think that is a bad thing.
I remember being shown Holocaust films with footage of bodies being recovered from the concentration camps. Horrible to see human beings handled like so much cordwood.
Also the infamous "Signal 30" driver's ed film - the scene that sticks with me is when they pulled the kid from the wrecked car and dumped him into a sheet, and immediately the sheet sags into a misshapen lump and the blood starts running out the bottom . . . that's when a kid in the class threw up . . . .
I don't think we were any less sensitive than the kids of today . . . but our parents figured (1) the Holocaust happened and we needed to be aware of how horrible it was; (2) ditto teen driving accidents, and maybe we would not drink and drive because we didn't particularly want to end up a bloody lump in the bottom of a sheet . . . .
It's not like this was elementary school. The kids are on the verge of adulthood, and this is the world they're going to be living in.
Frankly, I disagreed with the decision.
In the good old days we would not have shown such things to our women, but rather just to the young men, just before we brought in the recruiters from the Army and Marines.

In the past, people did not have TV, movie, or even pictures to show them violence.
Maybe it’s a boy/girl thing.
(I also don’t think you need to show pictures/videos of women having babies, yet women are totally prepared for that when it happens.)
It sure kept me from saying "yes" to any hypothetical indecent propositions from my classmates!
Line of the day. Did you come up with that?
One muddles through somehow.
I had a great OB and a very supportive husband who stuck through the whole process despite having a very low tolerance for blood 'n' guts (like many big ol' country boys).
