Blaming Bush again seen as risky
The Washington Times ^ | 9/22/2009 | Joseph Curl

Facing the increasing likelihood of losses in the 2010 midterm congressional and gubernatorial elections, President Obama and his fellow Democrats are returning to a tried-and-true campaign strategy — run against former President George W. Bush.

In speech after speech since taking office, Mr. Obama has pointed back to the problems he inherited from the Bush administration when he took office. And earlier this month, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine catalogued a slew of perceived Bush failures to the delight of supporters.

Already, Democratic gubernatorial candidates in Virginia and New Jersey are testing the strategy — so far, however, unsuccessfully.

"It will be a failed strategy," said Karl Rove, former senior political adviser to Mr. Bush. "They have been doing that very intentionally in New Jersey and Virginia thus far, and both their candidates are behind."

While the strategy worked in both 2006 and 2008, when Democrats took control of Congress, Mr. Rove argued that voters have moved past the Bush administration and are now beginning to judge the current president on his own record.

"People are starting to get the sense that the way that [Mr. Obama] spent two years [as a candidate] depicting the Bush administration is not living up to the way he's now governing," Mr. Rove said. Running against Mr. Bush "bespeaks both weakness and lack of vision."

Still, political parties often stick with strategies that have proved successful in the past. Thus, Democrats in Virginia and New Jersey are pointing fingers back at the former president, characterizing their Republican opponents as throwbacks to the Bush era.

If Democrat candidates have to talk about Bush it's because they don't want to talk about Obama. I wonder why.

There is no way in hell that blaming Bush will win NJ. The Demoncrats have had totla control of NJ for years. The demise of this state is directly due to the Demoncrats.

You can say the same for New York, Pataki was a RINO. Same with Mass,Kerry Kennedy, and it was RINO Romney that gave them Commonwealth care. Va The Warners, Keane, Webb. The list keeps going on.

If blaming President Bush is no longer working for the rats, then there can be only one explanation for it...

Bush’s fault!

Yes We Can ... blame Bush.

Bush ...

1) ran up the deficit
2) left borders open

... forgivable, but not excusable.

But let's not overlook the roles played in those failures by a Democrat-controlled House & Senate. Politically, Democrat-controlled legislatures have shown they are more than willing to play brinksmanship and shut down the government (while playing the media to blame their opponents) if they don't get their way (kind of a grown-up version of throwing a tantrum and taking your ball and glove and running home).

This administration has reflexed to the 'whine mode' nearly every time it faces a stiff challenge. It's beginning to get really disgusting -- I thought the Constitution limited the legislative and executive branches to adults.

This will backfire in more ways than one. For one thing, people will start to compare their lives to what it was like with Bush and as much as the media wanted them to believe it was miserable and horrible and so on, they will recognize TRUE difference in lifestyle (and inability to find a job). Plus that there is a general undercurrent of fear as power shifts and people recognize that we elect a COMMANDER in Chief. Not NEGOTIATOR in Chief. We have and always will want a WARRIOR to lead our military. The average American did not go to Harvard to be taught that the Russians really weren’t that bad. No, we were rooting to kick that Rooskies butt in Rocky IV. We were yelling WOLVERINES from our theater seats and living rooms. And we do not trust Russia. As time goes on, more will not trust Obama.

This'll be great. Obama's relection narrative will be "we had no idea how badly the stupid, incompetent, evil, criminal, racist Bush adminstration effed things up. Just give us 4 more years and we'll have unemployment below 12%, interest rates below 15%, inflation back down below 10%. FOUR MORE YEARS!! YES WE CAN!!"

And of course all the MSMwhores and kool-aid drinkers (I repeat myself) will all swoon, Matthews will get another thrill up his leg and legions of morons will continue to wait for Obama to fill their gas tanks.
