Michelle Obama favoured Joe Biden over Hillary Clinton as vice-president, book claims
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | September 21, 2009

Michelle Obama put the final nail in the coffin in the idea of Hillary Clinton becoming her husband's vice-presidential nominee, according to a new book.

Author Christopher Andersen reported that Mrs Obama favoured Joe Biden, the president's eventual choice.

"Do you really want Bill and Hillary just down the hall from you in the White House?" she reportedly told her husband. "Could you live with that?" Mr Obama later thought of the masterstroke of appointing the woman he narrowly defeated as his secretary of state.

According to the New York Daily News , Mrs Obama was "fascinated" by the choice of the unknown Sarah Palin as Senator John McCain's vice-presidential pick.

The book by the bestselling writer, Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage, also claimed that it was Mrs Obama who persuaded the reluctant candidate to use the winning campaign slogan "Yes We Can!" during his 2004 senate race.

He thought the catch phrase was "childish" and "corny", when it was proposed by his adviser David Axelrod, but Michelle told him: "It will work. Trust me."

Andersen, who has written 28 books, including best-sellers on the Clintons, Princess Diana and Caroline Kennedy, claimed that Mr Obama dragged his feet over marriage and that Michelle talked to friends about adoption because of early difficulties conceiving.

Hmmm. So Barack isn't the only one obsessed about Palin.

No way would Michelle want Hillary as VP. She knew Biden would treat her with respect, whether or not she deserved it.

DUH. For Michelle Mabelle there will be NO sharing the stage with another female. Michelle is the only show in town. I am embarrassed for the Fashion World as they keep pretending the Michelle is a Fashion Icon. They gave themselves away when they ignored her mis-buttoning of her cardigan. What a mess!

I found this New York Daily News story and since it is the latest and relates to recent events I'll post the link here;

"The lawless area between Pakistan and Afghanistan - where an Afghan terror suspect arrested in Denver admitted he was trained by Al Qaeda - has been called "the most dangerous spot on the map."

Mr Obama later thought of the masterstroke of appointing the woman he narrowly defeated as his secretary of state.

If it was "later" it was quite some time after we had it figured out on FR. It isn't a master stroke at all, it's his administration and she's the weakest link. And it does matter, as our current foreign policy shipwreck is showing.

She does. And she doesn't follow the rules regarding her figure shape by wearing horizontal designs and full skirts that make her look larger.

The “belt” is the strangest part. She has large hips, a high waist and then wears a very wide belt right under her breast and it is just a weird look!

You know Africans wear wild colorful fabrics and she might have a liking for something similar.

Wearing sleeveless dresses does not bother me as it seems to bother others. Jackie Kennedy wore a LOT of sleeveless dresses for all occasions.

That was the fashion back in those days.

I didn't get the whole sleeveless controversy either. It looked drummed up by Obamans to give themselves a chance to get indignant.

But it's possible that in earlier years women who had very highly developed upper arms didn't call attention to them.

What worked for Jackie in the 1960s might not have worked for a more muscular woman in those days.

Fashion - smashion. I wear beautiful clothes and I don't follow anyone’s rules.

If you watch ‘runway style shows’ you know how ghastly their clothing looks.

Michelle is a large woman but her upper arms look very nice, I don't consider them overly muscular.

The sleeveless controversy wasn't drummed up by the Obamas. It was drummed up by the press and ‘fashion people’ AFTER people started criticizing Michelle about the sleeveless dresses.

No kidding?!?!?!?!!!!!

Any study that provided knowledge of Michelle Obama’s history, her family’s political history, the connections SHE has made, the inclusion of HER connections around Obama, in his political campaigns and his administration KNEW (1) that the personal ambitions she harbored for her husband were NO LESS than Hillary’s for Bill and (2)she would never forgive another strong woman for the campaign against her husband in the primaries.

Hillary was supposed to bow out early, leave a weak field for her husband to star alone in and exit to the shadows afterward.

I am sure that Michelle’s views of Hillary are no different than Hillary’s views of Michelle would have been if the roles had been reversed.

Well, Michelle has always looked more manly than her husband, and that probably includes the family’s heavy lifting and making the tough decisions. I bet Obama is just happy chanting “yes we can” while dancing with the ballerina Rahm Emanuel, to the tune of “I’m every woman” by Chaka Khan.

I think the complaints about Michelle’s sleeveless outfits would have been few if she had dressed more conservatively at certain public events. Someone who is good at posting pictures can site that..I don’t think her arms look terrible either. I would rather see arms toned like hers than batwings flapping around. Can you imagine Barbara Bush is sleeveless outfits? So it is not so much an issue of sleeveless dresses or blouses so much as when she has worn them.

[I think the complaints about Michelle’s sleeveless outfits would have been few if she had dressed more conservatively at certain public events.]

I do agree with you that she has no idea of how to dress for specific events. Can’t understand why she doesn’t have someone smart enough to advise her unless she just won’t listen!

I recall the ‘Fashion Police’ threads from the start and they were MEAN. I stay away from them now.

Recall the Inauguration and the white dress she wore and how they criticized her for going sleeveless and wearing a ‘white dress’ in the winter? Well, so did Nancy Reagan and Jackie, and sleeveless too!

It bothered me so much that I spent hours looking up all the First Ladies and making up these graphics to post. Not much comment as you can imagine. I just don’t admire those who say nasty things about personal looks.

Michelle does wear some awful outfits, I agree, and the belts are really dumb looking. But she can look nice. But no one will post nice pictures of her. There are those who say we have to play ‘dirty’ like the other side, guess I’m just not cut out for that. Actions and deeds, yes, but nitpicking personal looks, no.

Nice black dress;

Sorry to deluge you with all this. I needed a ping to let off some steam tonight, lol. My little Yorkie chased a coral snake today and scared me to death. I had to kill it with a shovel and keep him away at the same time.

Sorry again to bore you, just needed to tell someone. Night!

I think the fun people had with the inauguration dress is not so much that it was one of those one shoulder things like Nancy Reagan wore as it is that it looked like a bed spread fabric. She had a picture taken in the WH where she wore a black dress..she was standing by a table and she looked pretty good in that too. If Michelle would just get rid of those ugly “boob belts” it would go miles for her. I do think she has people who advise her but I think she is so single minded she pays no heed.

I tried to find that original thread without success because I didn’t consider it a ‘fun’ thread at the time.

I did research on her gown. I once bought a Texas designer.s gown that had sheer silk flowers attached on the sheer silk chiffon overlay gown with tiny crystal beads. It is beautiful.

Her gown had the same type of adornments on it and probably looked much better ‘in person’ than in the pictures. I also posted this on that thread - with no comments.
