Lib: “What begins in vitriol has far too often ended in violence.”
Charleston Daily Mail ^ | 9/19/2009 | Don Surber

Posted on 09/20/2009 3:11:40 PM PDT by Mustang Driver

Writing in Newsweek, Joe Meacham expressed a little remorse that liberals were not a little less vindictive these last eight years.

“Words have consequences, too. I wish that more liberals had appreciated this point during the George W. Bush years. It was wrong then to demonize the president, and it is wrong now,” Meacham wrote.

And, he warned conservatives: “What begins in vitriol has far too often ended in violence.”

But (there is always a but).

“I would argue that the 1980s were manageably mad in political terms. Liberals went crazy decrying Ronald Reagan, who was said to be a nuclear cowboy who hated the poor. Enough Americans, however, found Reagan to be a good man with whom they might disagree on particulars but whose essential character was worthy. The debates of the era were ferocious, but no one questioned Reagan’s legitimacy as president,” Meacham wrote.

Really? Do the words “October Surprise” ring a bell?

Considering the gutter slime race bait-er tactics being used against anyone critical of the 0 right now, I suggest that if the Democrats want civility, they can start by cleaning up their own current Leadership's behavior asap.

That has been the start point of all the current vitriol. The Democrat Leadership and their habitual lying about what is, and is not, in their various bills.

Really? I don’t remember it this way. Presient Reagan was hated by the left - and I believe he still is.
As for legitimacy - they’ve got to be kidding. After 8 years of whining that President Bush stole the elections? Who do they think they’re fooling?

re: but no one questioned Reagan’s legitimacy as president

Didn't have to, and if you had he would have produced whatever evidence needed to prove it. It is patently stupid to compare RR with the ObamaTron in any, way, shape or fashion.

But whoa back here, kids. The questioning of a president's legitimacy was invented by the Left when they went balls to the wall, petal to the metal to question Dubya.

I sense the familiar odor of desperation in the air!

Reciprocity is a law of nature, and so cannot be repealed. A lie for a lie, a truth for a truth.

but whose essential character was worthy

0bama's essential character has yet to be proven worthy. When one examines the pieces of 0bama's character that are available to public scrutiny only one conclusion can be rendered.

Not worthy.

Really! They mocked him over absolutely everything, blamed him for AIDS, for trying to starve school children, for being a doddering old fool who slept most of the time. Someone even insisted to me that he was evil.

They have poisoned the well and salted the earth and now do not want to pay any price for what they have done.

Two points.

One, this is the lamest convenience-construct: give some mealy-mouthed lament towards past behavior now that it doesn't matter and use that an extremely weak template to apply to conservatives. This is pathetic and patronizing.

Two, how many conservatives have been arrested so far this year vs. liberal protests? Gee, I don't see the trash (both human and actual) that typically litters anti-war, global-warming, anti-globalization marches & protests. I don't see businesses boarding up their storefront windows for conservative protesters. At conservative protests, I don't see police armed to the teeth in order to deal with all sorts of solids & liquids hurled in their direction.

Comrade Meek-um, don't compare us to that spoiled-brat filth we had to witness on the evening news for eight years. Don't even try...

Well, well, like-minded leftists, political class and enemies of America were never concerned with vitriol and violence when Americans tolerated their poor excuse and use of freedoms. Now the shoe is on the other foot they’re scared, for what…for what they have sown has come back to bite them directly. We can even go on to discus how the left use Marxist of Queensbury rules and tactics to be exempt from the reality.

Writing in Newsweek, Joe Meacham expressed a little remorse that liberals were not a little less vindictive these last eight years.

How about the past f'-in' forty years!

Some lefties rise high enough to become "comfortably ensconced in the ranks of Chicago's [and the Nation's] liberal intelligentsia" that they can get away with killing policemen. Why's that?

"[S]peaking publicly for the first time about the investigation, former FBI agents have told SF Weekly the basis for their belief that the Weather Underground was behind McDonnell's murder. The agents have revealed that two credible eyewitnesses — both former left-wing radicals tied to the Weathermen — gave detailed statements to investigators in the 1970s alleging that Dohrn and Howard Machtinger, another member of the group, were personally involved in organizing the deadly attack [that killed Sgt. McDonnell]."

Officer Down Memorial Page

Yes, kill cops and be protected by 1960s Marxist-Alinsky hippie street rabble and their ideological issue (children) who are now arguably "the Establishment."

It was wrong then to demonize the president, and it is wrong now,” Meacham wrote.

You can't demonize a demon; it is already their nature.

Would it be "hate speech" to direct an exorcism at Obama? An "attack" to use holy water to brew his coffee?

Thank you. TIME & NEWSWEEK are the “Saturday Night Live” of news publications. I find them loathsome and so past-their-prime. It’s overdue for a DeathPanel to urge End-of-Life for these two rags that don’t qualify as toilet paper in Mogadishu.

And, he warned conservatives: “What begins in vitriol has far too often ended in violence.”

Bring it on. They incited this, let them suffer the consequences. Only when we're sated should we begin to talk with them about the definition of "civility."

I am hearing this theme so often - that conservatives are racists haters who eventually turn to violence, ala Tim McVeigh and OKC Murrah Bldg - that I expect the Left to manufacture an event using their own goons but blaming it on conservatives. By the way, that is what OKC was - a terrorist attack by al Qaeda which was blamed on white home grown conservatives so Clinton wouldn’t have to publicly face the facts.
