Rod Blagojevich has a message to his former political cronies: "If I'm going down, I'm taking all of you with me." And given his close, 14-year relationship with Barack Obama and Tony Rezko, this can only be bad news for the White House.
Unlike many criminal defendants who keep a low profile prior to trial, the impeached former Illinois governor has his own website. "Blago" and his wife Patti--the daughter of powerful Chicago Alderman Richard Mell--have made numerous media appearances. And now a book.
"The Governor", released September by Phoenix Books hasn't been treated very seriously by reviewers -- perhaps a sign of their fear. The New York Times wrote, "Blagojevich v. Elvis: You Be the Judge." The Chicago Tribune picked up on the musical theme: "Ex-governor croons to suspicious minds." Time Magazine focused on Blago's megalomaniacal self-comparison to Teddy Roosevelt.
But wrapped in 264 pages of pabulum, Blago names names and identifying wiretapped conversations in a way which is sure to send a message to the politicians whose voices are allegedly recorded on the other end of the line.

Oh, I like that.

Yep..he had better watch his back. These Chicago thugs play for keeps.
That's the spirit, Blago!
Justice Department Briefing on Blagojevich Investigation:
Patrick Fitzgerald, United States attorney general for the Northern District of Illinois [speaking to press]:
Published: December 9, 2008, New York Times
Excerpts from the transcript:
Fitzgerald: "In the governor words -- governor's words, quote, 'Fire all those bleeping people. Get them the bleep out of there. And get us some editorial support', close quote. And the bleeps are not really bleeps."
(snip)
Fitzgerald: "A month or so ago a $1.8 billion tollway project was announced. While that tollway project was being announced, Governor Blagojevich was privately seeking to have a person benefiting from that contract raise $100,000 in contributions, and privately the government (sic) said, 'I could have made a larger announcement but wanted to see how they would perform by the end of the year. If they don't perform, bleep 'em.' That's a quote. And the word 'bleep' was not the word he used."
(snip)
Fitzgerald: "The governor's own words describing the Senate seat, quote, 'It's a bleeping valuable thing -- thing. You just don't give it away for nothing', close quote."
Fitzgerald: "Another quote, 'I've got this thing, and it's bleeping golden. And I'm just not giving it up for bleeping nothing. I'm not going to do it, and I can always use it; I can parachute me there,' quote. Those are his words, not our characterization, other than with regard to the bleep."
Fitzgerald: "The tapes reveal that Governor Blagojevich wanted a number of things in exchange for making the appointment to the Senate seat -- an appointment as secretary of health and human services or an ambassadorship, an appointment to a private foundation, a higher paying job for his wife or campaign contributions."

Blago's wife...
"Mrs. Blago, the former Patti Mell, won the hearts of old-school thugs everywhere with her f-word-filled rants captured on FBI wiretaps, some of which were colorfully detailed in the criminal complaint against her hubby..." --Michelle Malkin, December 17, 2008

That may be the reason he’s keeping his face out in public view.
Who the hell was Blago talking about? Who wanted him to give the seat away? To whom? Why? We all know. Blago wouldn't play ball with Zero so Zero had him poleaxed. "Take that you little punk!" LOL. Now it is blowing back on Zero. WIll the Brown Shirt Media cover it? Of course not. Maybe Beck will pick this up, then folks will find out. The fringe media won't touch this story.
These pictures of Emmanuel are creepy - his looks like Joseph Goebels!!
long and good article.
i’d wager the trial get postponed 6 months, from June to December 2010 to avoid the nasty revelations. Of course, that will only postpone the inevitable.
It sounds like something out of The Godfather!
[prosecutor] Fitzgerald: “In the governor words — governor’s words, quote, ‘Fire all those bleeping people. Get them the bleep out of there. And get us some editorial support’, close quote.”

MICHAEL CORLEONE:
Where does it say that you can’t kill a cop?
HAGEN:
Come on, Mikey...
MICHAEL:
Tom, wait a minute. I’m talking about a cop — that’s mixed up in drugs. I’m talking about a... a dishonest cop — a crooked cop who got mixed up in the rackets and got what was coming to him. That’s a terrific story. And we have newspaper people on the payroll, don’t
we, Tom?
[Hagen nods in the affirmative]

I saw Blago on some Fox News program, the guy is slick and likable. He makes a case, the trial, if they ever get to trial is going to be a hoot for observers.
Wouldnt that be nice.
And is likely one side or the other will file for a delay so it could get pushed out to August.
He needs more body guards than Clinton. Thuggery is the Chicago way...I hope he doesn’t get car bombed or overloaded with aspirin.
I wonder what happens with the Ci-cago gang if Taitz really gets close to documents and a chance to examine them in Santa Ana federal court? What will they do? Their citizen army isn’t really shaping up to the job they way that they had hoped.
Some time after the financial collapse in September 2008, when it started to become clear that Barack Obama was likely to be elected president, my Chief of Staff called me to tell me about a lunch he had with a woman by the name of Marilyn Katz (SDS ‘security chief’ at 1968 Chicago riots, developer of an anti-personnel weapon known as ‘guerilla nails’). She's a political activist, and I believe she has a communications or consulting business in Chicago. John Harris told me that the purpose of the lunch was that Marilyn Katz had raised the issue of having me appoint Valerie Jarrett (another key Obama kitchen cabinet insider tagged as ‘The Next Van Jones’ by some), a Chicago lawyer and businesswoman, to the United States Senate to succeed Barack Obama. Marilyn Katz is close to Obama’s political consultant David Axelrod. John told me that she brought up the subject of my reelection for governor. She indicated that if I appointed Valerie Jarrett to the US Senate, the Obama people would help me raise money from their network of contributors across the country. And that the new senator and the Obama political operatives would help to make it happen. (p179)

Of course the one proviso in all of this will be how much of a defense he will be allowed to use at trial. His attorney better be ready for all the “objections, not relevant to this matter” comments. In fact, the only way he can play his defense would be: They made me do it!
I still say they Fitzgerald was playing games with this when they arrested him before the recordings could reach the highest possible target: OZero. With OZero’s pension to throw individuals under the bus, good old Rahm will be wearing a commercial vehicle tread pattern by next years summer recess.
The closest similar historical incident I can think of was the prosecution of Agnew for bribery before he became vice president. OZero would have been president elect during these times so he was, as was Agnew, perhaps commiting crimes before becoming immune to legal action while in office. Vince
When the Agnew story broke the wife of a good friend who was in the White House (She was also a good friend and worked at OAS at the time) knowing that I grew up in Maryland, called me and asked if I thought the stories abouit his taking kickbacks “were true.” My response was: “In Maryland? Of course, they’re true.”
Axelrod looks like Hitler with that hair and moustache.
Thanks for that timeline.
That's exactly what it was. The (now) President was involved in garden variety Illinois corruption.
