Did America betray us? Or it was just Obama?
American Thinker ^ | September 20, 2009 | Michal Wisniewski

Posted on 09/20/2009 2:26:30 AM PDT by kingattax

It was the worst thing that the American government could do. This decision was announced on 17 September, when Poland was commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Invasion Day, when the Soviet Union allied with Nazis and stabbed our country in the back.

This was an effect of the Nazi- Soviet Pact that was signed on 28 August in Moscow. After this day, all dreams about resisting Hitler's invasion perished -- two evil empires combined their powers to destroy our freedom and sovereignty.

At the same day, 70 years later, Obama bowed to the Kremlin. It was something that created great turmoil in all of Poland. What is even worse -- people here feel that they were betrayed. It's not only about the anti-missile shield. It's about the Polish attitude towards the USA. The United States was seen as the great defender of freedom and democracy all around the world.

The United States supported Israel against Ahmadinejad's threats. After 9/11, Poles expressed solidarity with the USA without any hesitation, despite the fact that we were risking alienation from some of our European partners.

And after we joined the U.S.-led coalition against terrorism, we were verbally attacked by Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Shroeder -- leaders of two major European powers, but our position was clear and firm: we would stay with the USA and fight against common enemies -- enemies who attacked our ally and the whole free world.

No other country had such a special status in Poland -- almost 80% of Poles sympathized with the U.S. Poland is not a great military power, but it has some influence on Eastern Europe and was a real stronghold of American interests in this region. Whatever Germans, French or other European Union countries would do, Poland always stood arm to arm with the U.S.

Now it all belongs to the past. It's not only about this incident, but it was something that created great outrage here. It's impossible to remain so positive towards the U.S. now - people are reacting emotionally. Even the most pro-U.S. media and journalists comment that our close relations with the USA were a mistake. That we were wrong, and we should focus on our closer neighbours, like France or Germany.

But, some people understand -- as I do, that this is a wrong reaction. Wrong, because people don't recognize that "America" (United States) is only a country, and has a policy that is set out by the current government.

All I can say is that Obama is undermining strong support for U.S. foreign policy, not only in Poland and the Czech Republic, but also in the whole region. This process cannot be reversed under this government (Obama).

But the U.S. won't lose Poland as an ally because many people realize this simple fact: that we can't blame the U.S., but we can only blame Obama's administration. And Obama is not the United States. What is more, Obama's foreign policy hurts U.S. interests all around the world, and the USA is the country that would lose the most from his policies. So, we should understand it here, in Europe, that the major victim is not Poland, but the U.S.

The saddest thing is just seeing the anti-American groups in Europe, the same groups that some years ago shouted about American imperialism, have their moment of triumph. They also point out Poland, saying with satisfaction, "Look, the U.S. is pulling back - you and your policy lost".

Yes, it's their time now. But, we believe that in the future everything could change. Because the U.S. deserves a change now...

Trust me Mr. Wisniewski, the people of Poland don’t feel any more betrayed by the U.S. government than I do.

The United States was seen as the great defender of freedom and democracy all around the world.

Russia and China used to be seen as the greatest defenders of socialism and slavery to government in the world, but things change. Now Russia is on a path to capitalism (a corrupt path but still a path), and China is the world's leader in what I call "state capitalism". What has the United States become under Obama? We are now the great defender of socialism and submission to the state all around the world. As for Poland, sadly, all I can say is, "welcome to the club; you must be good if obama chose to betray you too".

There are several varieties of capitalism. While all use markets, not all can fairly be called “free market” systems.

Both China and Russia are developing into crony capitalist and/or fascist systems. Historically, crony capitalism is what has existed thru most of human history. In particular, it is the economic structure that existed for thousands of years in China.

It differs from free-market capitalism in that, above the lowest level, success in business depends more on your relationship with those in political power than on your competence or service to customers.

America didn't betray anything.

The 0 administration's foreign policy has been working full-tilt to ensure the global community, "It's our fault, and we're sorry," while moving the U.S. toward a position which is half-French ("we're too insignificant to take seriously") and half-Chamberlain ("sure, the ruthless dictator is trying to take over the world but we're far more clever, so just leave him alone so we don't have to be unpleasant").

But this is the president who was elected. By the votes of commission (someone said, "Hey, I want that guy,") and went to the poll to cast a vote, and also by the votes of omission (someone sat on their fat butt and said, "Man, I hope he isn't elected -- pass me the chips,") and did not go to the polls, to vote.

Get out the voter drives work best for the Dem party because they have access to people who will get off their butts. To campaign. To vote. To contact elected reps.

Who betrayed who?

I believe this is a case where the american people betrayed america and the rest of the freedom loving world.

many people say that Obama got elected because of peoples ignorance, but were they really ignorant? every one knew , or should have known about Obama,s tie with people who were associated with enemies of freedom, so is americans ignorant or just stupid?

Amen. It’s not just Obama. There are huge numbers of ‘Rats who are cheering him on enthusiastically. Unless the Senate and House make it clear the the country does not back the Administration, something they Constitutionally ought not to do, then Obama speaks for all of the country, and the U.S. as a nation has sold Poland down the river.

There are not enough freedom-loving Americans left to save the Repulic, let alone Poland or anyone else in Eastern Europe. Poland should make the best peace they can with the Russians, the US has “left the building.”

Obama is attacking our allies and democracies and choosing tyrannies and dictatorships. How else to explain the different policies toward Honduras and Venezuela? The Democrat Party better start reeling this guy in and Hillary better make a public effort or resign. She’s toast as the face of Obama foreign policy.

I don’t understand your note - according to what I hear from some Polish long-term ‘visitors’ to the US - it was the Russians that freed Poland from the Nazis all those years ago AND some 80%-85% of Polish citizens voted AGAINST allowing the proposed missile defense system to be installed. I haven’t seen any source for those results so I am not swearing they are accurate. Of course, these folks are also big fans of the current ‘president’ so to question their statements would be RACIST!

Poland is getting exactly what they deserve. According to news reports, they were running around orgamasing in their clothes upon learning that the traitors to America had elected obama. And you can rest assured that more than a few of Polish dscent over here voted for the sob.

But don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, America is about to get hers.

America voted the usurper into office.

I campaigned against him.

I voted against him.

Is the syllogism then that I am not American? Born in the Midwestern hills of Missouri, of parents born in the Midwestern hills of Missouri, of parents either born in the Tidewater of Virginia, or legally immigrated from Switzerland and naturalized?

America is what her people make her.

If people sat back and allowed this 'usurper' into office, then who let whom down?

My point is that the people who did nothing -- did not vote, did not bestir themselves to find out anything, did not pry themselves off the couch, could not go slightly out of their way, could not make the effort to submit an absentee ballot, whatever -- and now bemoan the crisis in national leadership, identity, and well-being; they are the ones who betrayed America, not the other way around.

If you allow yourself to get fat and out of shape, should you blame your heart when you have a heart attack?

People who have found they can vote themselves government slop by electing the right hog farmer can be outvoted. But congressthings need to be confident that if they do the right thing, they will return to their office.

That can only come when people elect their representatives for the right reason. And government slop ain't it.

Two years ago my husband and I spent 6 months attending language school in Costa Rica. On numerous occasions Costaricans would say that they didn't need an army. They had a treaty with the U.S. The U.S. would defend them if they were invaded.

My husband and I would try to explain that the treaty was worthless. Whether the U.S. would defend Costa Rica was entirely dependent on who was president. And.. Americans would not be eager to have their sons and daughters lose their lives for a country who wasn't interested in taking the most minimal steps to defend themselves.

I agree the day Obama came in office our world changed that moment.
What has he really done for the citizens of America since he came to office?
Nothing- he walks around with his nose in the air & smirk on his face.
I pray more people will wake up & take a look at the road he is taking our country.

Survey in Poland during 2008 elections showed that McCain would beat Obama 3:1, and majority of Poles were in favour Missile Shield. Considering Europe as a one single state is a huge mistake many Americans make. Central - Eastern Europe is generally Pro-American, Western is not.

Now do you really think that "Poland gets what it deserves"?
