The Edwards Drama Awaits a Denouement [About to Admit He Lied Continuously]
New York Times ^ | 9/19/09 | Neil A. Lewis

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The story of the spectacular rise and fall of John Edwards, with its sordid can’t-look-away dimensions, is moving slowly but deliberately to its conclusion here in North Carolina.

Mr. Edwards, the one-term senator who came close to being elected vice president in 2004 and ran a credible campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, remains largely secluded at his 100-acre estate here.

But a federal grand jury in nearby Raleigh is investigating whether any crimes were committed in connection with campaign laws in an effort to conceal his extramarital affair with a woman named Rielle Hunter. At the same time, Mr. Edwards is moving toward an abrupt reversal in his public posture; associates said in interviews that he is considering declaring that he is the father of Ms. Hunter’s 19-month-old daughter, something that he once flatly asserted in a television interview was not possible.

"Ah lied the first time when Ah told you Ah didn't sleep with her. Then Ah lied the second time when Ah said Ah DID sleep with her but could NOT have fathered her baby because the timing was all wrong that one day. Well, Ah am here to tell you that Ah did sleep with her, for many months, and Ah am the father of that little Mini-Me. Aint she cute?? But remember, mah wife was in remission for MOST of the time Ah was cheatin' around on her. At least 52% of that time she WAS really in remission. Well, OK, maybe only 35% of that time. But you see, Ah have taken FULL responsibility of the situation now that there has been discovery in this case and potential jail time for me, Ah have done the right thing and come clean. The buck stops with me, and Ah would have made a decent and honest President if only Ah could have explained this better.

"But remember, Ah did absolutely NOT employ my staffers and donors to cover for me and send money to Rielle. Come on! You know Ah would NEVER do anything that dishonest and sleazy."

Edwards engaged in fraud and possible criminal behavior but the NY Slimes spins it to protray Edwards as a victim.

With everything about ACORN, Obama’s lies, and our selling out Eastern Europe going on page 22A, why does it not surprise me that this tabloid trash news goes above the fold on page 1. Edwards was a 1 term, ambulance chaser scum bag that ran for President, why does news that he is a habitual liar surprise anyone.

Probably not. He lied about everything. His wife is just as bad. I know she is sick but she is a slimy lawyer like Spitzer’s wife.

I like Gov Sanford’s soon-to-be ex-wife. She took the kids and left him.

“The notion that Mr. Edwards is the father has been reinforced by the account of Andrew Young, once a close aide to Mr. Edwards, who had signed an affidavit asserting that he was the father of Ms. Hunter’s child.

Mr. Young, who has since renounced that statement, has told publishers in a book proposal that Mr. Edwards knew all along that he was the child’s father. He said Mr. Edwards pleaded with him to accept responsibility falsely, saying that would reduce the story to one of a political aide’s infidelity.

In the proposal, which The New York Times examined, Mr. Young asserts that he assisted the affair by setting up private meetings between Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter. He wrote that Mr. Edwards once calmed an anxious Ms. Hunter by promising her that after his wife died, he would marry her in a rooftop ceremony in New York with an appearance by the Dave Matthews Band.”

Guilty. Of suborning perjury. He should be out of the practice of law. The article also says he tried to get his aide to find a doctor who would falsify a DNA report.

And GUILTY of being the lowest scumbag a woman can imagine being married to. Picking the band to play at his next wedding? The picture of Elizabeth Edwards is alarming. She is obviously very very ill and may not be much longer with her kids. She has that sad end look. What a mess to leave for her children.

"Mrs. Edwards, who is battling cancer"

They can never mention Elizabeth Edwards without mentioning that she has cancer. She should just change her name to Elizabeth "Battling Cancer" Edwards. She was involved in the sham all along, power at any cost.

If you look at the picture in the article, it is clear that Liz is battling cancer and it looks like she’s losing. Surely the stress of leaving life in this way has taken its toll. “He” is perhaps one of the most selfish men in modern politics and that is saying a lot.

I've said this before here, whether she is battling cancer or not is not the issue, milking it for everything its worth while other ordinary people battle the disease with quiet dignity everyday is the issue. She knew about the affair but went along with it for the pursuit of power and at the same time used her illness to score political points for husband. Now she plays the sick victim ala Hillary.

I hope the denouement waits a bit. I am savoring the slow, painful unwinding of his big fat lie, recalling the love for Edwards proclaimed by liberal progressive types like John Nichols of the Wisconsin State Journal/Capital Times. Those stupid f**** bought him hook, line and sinker. And I’d rather they have a bit more time to be humiliated by their stupidity before this bad act leaves the stage.

Maybe this is his backup plan to stay out of jail in case all else fails. By admitting paternity and moving Rielle in nearby, he can say to a jury that they’re dependants and would suffer if he is sent to jail. “Think of the baby!”

You know I sometimes wonder about her cancer. If I recall the type of breast cancer they said she has would have taken the life of a women within a few months. What are we going on now? Almost 2 years. Also I saw a TV interview can't remember, Barbara Walters, or Diane Sawyer where they were talking about the antique furniture store Elizebetn had just opened.

It seems to me if she was battling cancer she sure wouldn't have the strength to run an antique furniture store.

As a mom I ALWAYS stand up for Elizabeth Edwards. Poor thing, she is dying of cancer and wants to spend EVERY MOMENT LEFT with her children. The only way to do that and not lose time with them in a custody dispute or sharing is to stay with him (hey - in a 26000 sq foot house does she need to see him that much??). She homeschools them for the same reason. G-d bless her, I’d do the same thing.

The media has torn apart Palin and her family. The media has not been able to find any dirt on Palin, because none exists. Where is their outrage and criticism of Edwards for his actual misdeeds? Why isn’t Edwards’ misbehavior a hot topic on the morning shows?

Exactly. He is going up for some very serious charges here. Not a word.

In some ways, this cements the fact that we have a Party-run Media. Not a problem as long as everyone officially knows now that the alphabets are run by the State. What you get at ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc., is as much truthful "news" as the fact that you can save on your car insurance by switching to Geico.

While surfing not that long go, I came across and watched about 10 minutes of Larry King Live and Mrs. Edwards was his guest. She said that she was feeling fairly well and didn't give any indication that death was near. I'm with you ... and wondering what exactly is up with the "dying soon" story. I mean, it'd be great if she lived a few more decades, but something isn't being presented honestly (big damn shock!).
