Joe Wilson, We Need Your Spine
WebWarriorOnline.com ^ | September 13, 2009 | Tom Baugh

Last week Joe Wilson showed spine. To borrow the words of a popular pundit, he "questioned with boldness" the words the President of the United States said in his house. That's right, Joe Wilson's house. And by extension, our house.

The framers of the Constitution intended that there be a system of checks and balances. And one of those balances is that once a year the President is compelled to address a joint session of Congress, not as an enraptured audience, but as a judge of his performance as Chief Executive. This time the President chose to request an audience before both chambers of Congress. And one of those Congressmen stood up and called him out.

The firestorm of angst that erupted against Joe Wilson was shocking. How dare he be so rude, doesn't he know that his position as a good little Congressman is to nod and clap politely? Doesn't he realize that he works for the establishment and not for the people? And even so-called right wing pundits, who should have had his back, jumped on the bandwagon of distaste.

Some dismiss Congressman Wilson's outburst as having not been made "in the proper forum." Can someone tell me what is the proper forum for a Congressman to challenge statements by the President, other than when that President is standing before him in his house? ...

Thank you very much but I already have a spine.
I just want everyone else to get one.
Joe. Come stand with me - or - I’ll come stand with you.
Maybe we together with other like minded people (With Spine) will encourage others to get one also.

I really don't get all the foolish canonizing of Joe Wilson. Here's a guy that voted in favor of the bank bailouts last fall. And actually voted to fund a Medicare prescription program that provided funding for illegal immigrant back in 2003. Then of course he capitulated 30 minutes after his “brave” outburst and would've probably faded away if it wasn't for the sudden in rush of funding to his political coffers.

Just another scam artist, that opened his clap-trap, got lucky with the timing and is now riding the wave.

As more lies come out of the White House, I think the GOP should start demanding Obama apologize to Joe Wilson.

I've heard Glenn Beck say this and he always says he's quoting Thomas Jefferson.

Frankly, every member of Congress ought to be demanding an apology from the President for coming to their House and repeatedly, openly and blatantly lying to them.

The elected GOP doofuses ought to be out there immediately after the speech demanding an apology from Obama, if their had a speck of political sense and a speck of political imagination and the spine to defend this country and their own constitutents from a disasterous and destructive piece of legislation pushed by a demagogic, race-poison President.

But nooo, elected GOP are weasels, wimps and fools unless proven otherwise.

Did you read the article? Is it really fair to say he voted for funding of illegal immigrants; or was it hospitals who can’t turn them away?

That's a good point:

"Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear."

I don't think he's being canonized. He just has a large group of people who are sticking up for him.

About the stimulus vote, it's hard to hold that too much against him. The president of his own party was leading that effort. Sure it would have been nice to see some spine then, but he eventually found it :-)
