The bill in California, SB400, Has Passed - The right to Vape (inhale from a non-combustible e-cig) is slipping away. California has passed a bill (although not yet signed into law) that will ban the sale of Electronic Cigarette in California.
What began as a bill to "prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors", morphed into a bill that prohibits the sale of electronic cigarettes to anyone until or unless the FDA approves them. And the legislature passed SB400 while we were focused on the 9/11 commemorations.
The vote was AYES

California lawmakers are so addicted to the tax dollars generated by cigarette taxes that they are willing to throw untaxed e-cig users under a bus -- even though e-cigs have virtually the same ingredients as all the nicotine replacement products now freely sold over the counter. The difference is that this delivery system really works in getting people to quit smoking cigarettes, and it doesn't have the ingredients that kill you -- but Big Pharma doesn't own the rights.
This bill also defers a State issue to the power of the Federal Government.
The bill isn't law until Governor Schwarzenegger signs it. Please call or write his office at:

BASTARDS!!!
They’re condemning millions to die for their tax revenues!
goddamn the pusherman!
Excellent.
Thousands who have quit smoking cigarettes using e-cigs, will thank you -- and so will anyone who believe that issues like this shouldn't be made by the Feds!
I can see it now, illegal black market of electronic cigarettes...and cops stopping people to see if their cigs are real or battery powered.
lol...
“BASTARDS”
Like ACORN, Van Jones, Wright, Ayres... - we need to shine a bright spotlight on these disgusting roaches and stomp them out as they scatter.
You know --there was a time when I would have laughed at that as way too kooky for real life.
But not anymore! (Scroll down a few inches on the website)
God save us from the Nanny Statists. They’re going to “protect” us to death. For our own good, of course.
Do they really work to stop smoking?
I can sort of believe it. I used a pipe to tapper off my smoking habit over a two year period of time. By the time I made my final assault using Chantix, I was only barely smoking.
I quit overnight, and I never even expected to.
Please click the pic that I just posted above, and read other’s words on this.
After over thirty years of smoking I have not had a real cig since May. I learned about vaping from a post on FR and after they raised taxes I decided I would not pay them. I ordered more then enough equipment and liquid to last for 8-9 months. It works and I am tapering off the nicotine level in the juice to almost zero.
California can’t lose any more cigarette tax money, heck, they just raised the state tax - they are looking to keep the smoker base stable (and probably would LOVE a bump in revenue - more smokers)
Vapers are sin-tax cheats./huge sarc but true to the gov’t...
If they help one to stop smoking and it appears that they do then no, for many struggling smokers, there is no more pressing issue.
Congratulations!
Sarcasm tag not required for your post.
Back before even you were on FR (I think it was 2003), some tobaccophobic poster here DID call FReepers who grew their own tobacco tax cheats, and declared them criminals who should go to prison.
Just tyranny doing what it does best.
That was probably Drango.
The issue is that there is a currently available product that saves lives by helping people quit smoking. But these people used a product that didn't have the State's permission.
This legislation is the State telling those who have been saved by e cigs, "Screw you. Just die!" You didn't have our permission to quit smoking that way, and we won't give it!" And further, we legislators are such weenies, we won't even take responsibility for our actions, -- we'll hide behind "the good of the children" and we'll defer to the Federal Government for our power on this.
So, is saving lives important? I'd say it is. Is freedom of choice and not continually being forced to ask the State's permission to even breathe, important? I'd say it is!
The State will just keep pushing until we push back! And this time, it's real personal.
Just got mine today, and I can see myself quitting with this device. Just gradually drop the nicotine level until it’s zero. Done.
4 hours without the need for a cigarette...and I’ve been chewing that damn gum for 2 years now. Picked up the e-cig...and my smokes are still downstairs in the bag they put ‘em in at the gas station.
Write Arnie, he can veto it if he sees enough people sharing these kinds of stories.
PS: TotallyWicked just boned me sideways...they having some hard times with supplies or something?
Here’s a template letter for you:
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
Please do not sign SB400!
This was a bill that was originally designed to keep electronic cigarettes out of the hands of children, a purpose which we would have all agreed with in its original form. However SB400, somehow in a matter of a few days, morphed into a complete “prohibition of of the sale of electronic cigarettes in California” and passed in the Senate, while we were commemorating 9/11 and had absolutely no time to protest its altered scope and intention. This bill does not represent the will of the people of the State of California!
Although not sold as a “quit smoking device”, thousands have successfully used the electronic cigarette to quit or or greatly reduce their tobacco smoking and reduce the health risks associated with the combustion of tobacco. Prohibiting the sale of the e-cigarette will not only return many to smoking cigarettes, it could also create a new black market in e cig material that will turn ordinary citizens into “criminals of the State” just to get their nicotine in a safer form.
SB400 was a good intention, run amok. The same arguments re “flavors appealing to children” could also be used to bar the sale of Peppermint Schnapps.
California is losing jobs, and we will now be shutting down e cigarette businesses? It makes no sense.
Please Governor Schwarzenegger, represent us where our legislators failed us and don’t sign SB400!
Sincerely,
(Your name)
ping!
The government is actually prohibiting the sale of a product that is immensely successful as a smoking alternative, is healthier for you, but because it doesn’t generate cigarette tax dollars, it’s useless to the State. They’d rather we croak or create an underground black market!
Please write or email Schwarzenegger to get him to refuse to sign it into law!
His email is http://gov.ca.gov/interact
"The only power that any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to become a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."
What happened with Totally Wicked? I’ve never had an issue with them.
Sent you a PM. Hopefully it was a mistake that they’ll fix shortly. We’ll see. Hope they do, because the reviews on their juice are really good.
Below are the Senators that voted Yes on SB400 taking your right to Vape away just a little more. Voting time is coming up soon, I suggest we give these guys a big fat no. It took a while to make this list, so lets put it to good use. Tell them how you feel. And make sure these Senators DO NOT make it in come election time. :gun:

Thank you.
You’re welcome!
By the way, Schwarzenegger is on Twitter. I’m going to tweet him, if I can figure out how.
But what if it were an electronic joint?
There are obvious differences between the physical effects of inhaling nicotine and the effects of inhaling marijuana, so in the drug sense they are non-comparable.
But in terms of freedoms, I've always thought pot should be just as legal as alcohol, even though I don't smoke it.
I resent the hell out of "the war on drugs" that has turned the marijuana trade into a deadly and expensive game for government.

Can’t imagine having to suck on one of these electronic contraptions to get a cig fix.
That’s pretty pathetic...
Tobacco is easy to quit, but the con men out there have convinced many they need help quitting, which equates to giving the con men money.
The key to success is to buy the right equipment.
Congratulations. I am glad that you were able to find the right tool to assist your efforts. It took me years to find mine.
It wasn't for me.
I guess I was just a sucker.
Look, I think that mustard-eating is "disgusting and pathetic". I can't stand the stuff, even to look at. Does that mean that I want to outlaw it? No! It gives others pleasure, so I just look the other way.
"Tobacco is easy to quit, but the con men out there have convinced many they need help quitting, which equates to giving the con men money."
As for it being "easy to quit", that's nonsense. If it were "easy to quit", there wouldn't be $Billions spent in pharmaceutical cures for quitting.
But if you have some secret cure that worked for you, as a thirty or forty year, two pack a day, smoker, then be gracious and share it with us mere mortals.
Because electronic cigarettes have come the closest so far, to being the perfect cure for many of us.
Cant imagine having to suck on one of these electronic contraptions to get a cig fix.
Thats pretty pathetic...

>>It wasn’t for me. I guess I was just a sucker.<<
I should have said after 3 days it’s easy. You’re only a sucker if ya can’t tough it out, and just cold turkey quit. Paying others to help ya quit is weak IMO.
Best time to quit is when you’re planning on visiting the DMV to re-register the same freaking vehicle for the 5th time, or going to an anti-government/tax rally.
>>Does that mean that I want to outlaw it? No!<<
You suggested that, not I.
>>As for it being “easy to quit”, that’s nonsense. If it were “easy to quit”, there wouldn’t be $Billions spent in pharmaceutical cures for quitting.<<
People that spend money to give to the con men to help them quit are just weak and clearly have money to blow.
It’s amazing when one does not have 5 bucks a day to blow on a pack of cigs, how fast one is able to quit smoking. lol....
I quit long ago because it meant I was giving the corrupt government that much less tax money...That is what drove me, and it worked like a charm.
Dragnet2=Drango
Yawn, oh that. Thanks for the heads-up, thought the arrogant BS sounded familiar.
Wull, you know, they have to kill us to save us.
I tried numerous times to quit cold turkey and never made it more than 18 hours.
So I wimped out and used Chantix. Cost me $300, but I've saved probably close to $10K in 3 years.
I guess I'm a weak sucker who is finally, happily, tobacco free. ;0)
Good for you. That schtick about being weak is just my opinion. If ya got to pay to quit, go for it.
Hope I cleared that up.
demsux=Lets play stupid word games.
