No, the comments that regurgitate the same tired crap are getting tiresome. There’s no excuse for it. This story is about a little girl who saved her family from God only knows what and it gets turned into ‘50 reasons I’m sick of black criminals’, with the usual mocking of language etc.

I’m sick of criminals period. Some of these comments made me wince. They’re borderline. And it’s not a good thing.

You know why it's important to see this sort of stuff? I'm reminded of the Discovery channel. Every year they put on a series of specials called "Shark Week". Basically, it's a week of shows designed to scare us about sharks. Man-eating sharks. Did you know only about 3-4 people are killed every year by sharks worldwide?

Now, imagine what would happen, if people actually learned the suppressed, ugly, painful truth that - and I shudder to write this- you can actually, statistically and accurately judge whether or not you're going to be a victim of a violent crime by simply glancing at the person next to you? I avoid sharks. In life, there is plenty to avoid. Helps you live longer.

I’m “white”, and I have to tell you, being married to a man who is “black”, and having three sons, I could’ve turned out to be mistrustful of both black and white people. We’ve had our share of trouble from both. My sons are nice, and they’ve had trouble from both. And the only time someone tried to break into a home where I was staying (with another homeschool family), the two would-be rapists (as that’s the police believe they were intending) were white. Am I to conclude they were targeting us because my children are “mixed”? No, because I’m a reasonable, rational person, I concluded these two saw an opportunity (an open window), two women, and made a move. One had a long record, it turns out.

Of course you would, because you aren't a fool. Even Jesse Jackson admitted that he'd walk to the other side of the street. We do all sorts of things because of visual cues/vibes/gut instinct. If you don't, you can wind up duct-taped waiting for the police to save you. I avoid meth-using Outlaw bikers too. Does that make me racist? Charles Manson is white, and if I saw him near my kids, I'd grab them and take off. I'm talking about frequency, about cold, hard Department of Justice facts. Those thngs aren't racist. They're just stats.

I never notice / forget “color” when talking to someone of the same value system,

but part of our God-given defense systems are categorizations of threat level. Our brains are wired for generalization and hierarchical categorization, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to build on experience.

And when you continually see that persons who look/dress a certain way are and will be dangerous, it would be outright FOOLISH to dismiss it as the PC folks would like us to.
