Democrats Reject GOP Proposal to Stop Stimulus Advertising (Fascism 101)
Fox News ^ | Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Posted on 09/16/2009 5:53:37 PM PDT by stevie_d_64

Across the country, motorists are being greeted by signs advertising President Obama's $787 billion stimulus bill, and Republicans aren't happy about it.

The large green-and-white highway signs declare, "Project Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act." Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H describes them as the "signs to nowhere" and tried in vain Wednesday to stop the advertising.

Democrats were nearly unanimous in voting to defeat an amendment by Greg that would have prohibited the use of stimulus funds for signs that advertise taxpayer spending on stimulus projects.

Only five Democrats crossed the aisle in the 45-52 vote, joining all 40 Republicans in support of Greg's amendment.

"Considering the questionable effectiveness of the stimulus bill, it is completely unreasonable that signs are being constructed at a price tag of hundreds to thousands of dollars apiece for lawmakers to pat themselves on the back about this legislation," said Gregg, who voted against the stimulus bill.

"These signs are simply for political self-interest, and it's high time we stop using stimulus dollars to fund them, and instead use these dollars for their intended purpose of creating economic activity," he said in a written statement.

The cost of the signs vary from state to state. For example, a "Good Morning America" report calculated the cost at $500 in Maryland and New Hampshire to $3,000 in New Jersey. Gregg estimated the total cost at anywhere from $6 million to $20 million.

Even so, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., opposed the amendment, saying the signs help keep the public informed about federal projects. She argued the amendment was motivated by frustration on the part of Republicans who opposed the stimulus and now see that it's working. Only three Republican senators voted for the stimulus bill.

The rest of the article, since the link does not direct to the story (for now)...

They predicted gloom and doom. And let me tell you what’s happening in this great nation of ours. We have a long way to go to get jobs up and running, there’s no question about it. But the stimulus has already saved or created a million jobs,” she said.

“So now I think the issue here is a frustration with the fact that we won that vote and we got that done and those jobs are being created as we speak,” she said. “Slowly, but surely, we’re being lifted out of the darkness.”

After the vote, Gregg appeared flabbergasted.

“I just find it absurd that we’re putting up all these signs all over the country with taxpayer money telling taxpayers we’re spending their money,” he told FOX News. “Most taxpayers can figure that out. We don’t have to put up a sign and tell them we’re spending their money.

Notice the not so subliminal use of a logo similar to Obama's logo in the design of the sign. I guess the message is that the Messiah is providing you with a gift from him, not the taxpayer.

What I basically got out of this was that this is a way to “educate” the mind-numbed masses that do not pay attention to the real meaning of how intrusive, how demanding, and how overbearing the government has become...

And subtely they want to use these advertisements to prove to those that do not think beyong the nose on their faces that they are doing something, and you had better recognize how hard they are working for you, and that they know how to fix everything!!! etc etc etc...

We’ll be seeing portraits of Obama and the democrats in lithographs on building walls and other bill boards touting how great they are and how we need them to do everything for us, blah blah blah...

I just see it becoming more prevalent these days...

I’m just curious who the 5 dem cross-overs were. Does anyone know?
Think I’ll write to Boxer and tell her what I REALLY think!! I plan on telling her again that she will never get my vote again, even though she never did!!
I can’t believe that Boxer and Pelosi have remained in their positions as long as they have....Must be calling ACORN in to help them out!! Now that we know all about ACORN practices.....maybe Barbie and Nancy won’t fare so well in 2010!! One could only hope!!!

My questions are there any projects that don’t have this sign? Are they claiming that every pot hole repair is a shovel ready project that wouldn’t have happened without the stimulus?

Ever notice how Fascism, liberalism, communism, socialism need to constantly be sold to the masses???

Advertisments, billboards, paintings on the sides of buildings, speeches, pamphlets, and armies of mind-numbed robots to tout the values of those ideals to the public???

Go back and see how Italy, Germany, Russia, China etc etc etc have to paint with broad strokes these simple images to those who refuse to think beyond the noses on their faces???

Whereas the more natural condition of man is to be free, and to live a conservative life for the most part...I’ve never really needed to be reminded or inundated with propaganda to reinforce my conservative ideals, because they are a natural part of my life...I don’t need much to know that freedom is a natural state of existance to me and many others...It is an easier sell (if it has to be classified as such)...

We are rapidly going down a path that is very similar to the condition on those countries in the past that had, and still have some semblance of those ideals...

My concern is that most people in this country are not seeing the similarities, and that is just making the job of those who want to turn this country into a fascist state much easier...

When I see one of those signs, it like a cruel reminder that the stimulus didn't work. My guess is they'll be taking them down before 2010 ... they'll become a terrific GOP advertisement in the NEAR future.

But the one that always gets me is the little black plastic fencing they put around construction projects. Did you ever see a more useless, stupid thing. The water runs right past it when it rains, Stuff floating knocks it down ... and you see MILES of that stuff along the interstates, etc. I wonder who has the corner on the black plastic market. That's about as environmentally sound as global warming.

Ohhh, no...They will stay exactly where they are...The constituency of those districts is set...

People do not like to be told they are wrong, especially when they are so indoctrinated into the liberal mindset...

Its almost a mass hypnotic trance that can be reinforced with keywords to get them to froth at the mouth right around election time...

And they call us mind-numbed robots...Thats why liberals and the progressive mindset is so susceptable to these types of suggestions...

And to think we are paying for it...geesh...

I like what Joe Wilson started...

“YOU LIE!!!”

Its a simple concept, based upon a truth...

It helps us, yet at the same time it hurts those who buy into the lie fro the beginning...

And people like that do not like being told the truth...

I say tough noogies...(and that’s putting it delicately)

I see what you are saying...

Most CIP (Capitol Improvement Projects) are noted with signs in the areas where the work is being done...

But those are done with a bit more surgical precision in that they are done to not promote a general ideal or agenda...Fairly dry in message...

At least that is what I see when and if I even notice those types of signs...

What else I get out of this is that those political idealist need to constantly justify their existances, whereas Conservatives struggle sometimes with falling into the same kind of mentality (recent history) when we really don’t need to justify our existance, because our political beliefs are much more natural than the alternatives...

This is why we are losing seats in Congress and the Senate since about 2004...

Maybe we are in for a rebound here next year...We’ll have to see how attentive voters are at that time...

It’s actually worse than that. There are several areas in rural Cobb County, GA that actually have signs, but no projects. In fact, I’ve seen at least three in areas where no construction has been done in several years, nor is any planned. Pure propaganda.

How about someone call fraud waste and abuse on their silly backsides. I’d like to see my tax $ going for something worthwhile and lasting. A stupid road sign tooting their own horn for having garnered some pork is not worthwhile in my book. Anyone have specifics so we can report them for fraud waste and abuse?

It’s a shame that Judd Gregg is retiring. Many on this board may disagree, but he’s a good conservative, and a better senator than most give him credit for. He’s not a firebrand culture warrior, but a good fit for New Hampshire.

The propaganda they distribute in these forms has a greater meaning. Rush Limbaugh was talking about a speech Obama gave recently to the AFL-CIO and it was revealing.

I was on a website yesterday that indicated the president’s speech on Sept. 8 had a message of COLLECTIVISM.

From the explanation on the website:

BO is telling the kids that each is responsible to himself and to his country. What is a student’s responsibility to himself? His responsibility to himself is to discover what he is good at so that it can be developed and so that he then has something to offer his fellow man. (Notice the emphasis on the collective, rather than the individual.)

A student’s responsibility to his country will be to write, invent, be a politician, teacher, doctor, police officer, nurse, architect, lawyer or soldier or help cure diseases, develop new energy technologies, protect his environment, fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and to make his country more fair and more free. (Notice the emphasis on environmentalism and social justice. And doctors -we’re going to need some of those! So far the “free” part seems way out of place, doesn’t it?)

We all know from looking at history that socialism kills the productive sector of society. There is no incentive for people to work hard for a lazy man’s wage. It makes sense that one attempt to get around that little self-interest-Adam-Smith-was-dead-on-problem is to indoctrinate your children with the idea that their responsibility is to their country, not themselves and their own family. A little guilt-inducing rhetoric will also go a long way towards motivating the SEIU-shirts.

Furthermore, notice the goals are about “social justice” – fighting poverty and all the other things the Statists-libs have been fighting for decades and still haven’t won the battle over.

Notice he’s calling on the children to help “boast our economy”. Yes, let’s get our kids mentally prepared to become slaves to their government in their efforts to pay off trillions of dollars of debt piled on by BO & Co.

Then, of course
to top it all off, there is the self-obsessed, narcissistic, stories from the life of Mr. Cult of Personality himself. And you, dear children, if you don’t have all the advantages me and My Wife Our First Lady Michelle Obama had, look to us and we will inspire you!

So, do you recognize the theme yet?

Collectivism

I didn’t even realize these things were in our media until I became aware that the communists had infiltrated.

Then I started noticing that even advertisements for a local roofing company said:
“Your government wants you to ....”

I have also noticed the notion in advertising of other products and services... “for the good for everyone” implied or stated.

The youth of our country have never really experienced the Cold War, the Fall of the Berlin Wall, etc.

I was really inspired by Ronald Reagan’s speech to students, a c-span file. The link also includes the text of the speech.

You need to go after the folks who put up the signs, and find out why they need these propaganda driven signs for “projects to nowhere”...

Like I said, they need to justify their existance every single day...And anything they can do to promote themselves and tell people “Look at Us!!! Look what good we are doing for you!!! We are so important in your lives!!! You cannot survive without us running everything in your lives!!!”

Its all a crock of _____...
