Bush on Obama: 'This guy has no clue' [attacks McCain and Palin, likes Romney] [barf]
CNN - Political Ticker ^ | 2009-09-15

Posted on 09/15/2009 11:57:05 AM PDT by rabscuttle385

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former President George W. Bush "seemed to feel considerable unease" with John McCain as the Republican presidential nominee, according to ex-speechwriter Matt Latimer in his tell-all memoir on his days in the White House.

In Latimer's new book, "Speech-less: Tales of a White House Survivor," set to hit bookstores on September 22, he reveals Bush's reactions to the economic collapse, the presidential campaign, and other memorable events. GQ published an excerpt from the memoir in its October issue.

Latimer said Bush liked Mitt Romney best and that he was "clearly not impressed with the McCain operation." Latimer said the former president wanted to appear with McCain at a campaign event in Phoenix, but after he was told the then-Republican nominee couldn't get enough people to show up, he called it a "cruel hoax."

Bravo Sierra.

Remember, it’s all about Palin for the MSM. They’ll gladly publish a criticism of Zero if it comes with a free zinger at Palin.

That said, I think these are fabricated.

Goodness knows Bush had his flaws, but he looks awful good compared to Zero.

With Bush I wondered if he was in over his head, especially in 2008, but not whether he was trying to destroy our current political and economic systems.

The media pukes gave us our last nominee. They have already started for 2012.
They are trying to hurt Romney’s chances with the Independents by saying Bush was on his side.

The media are determined to make Obummer’s re-election easy.

Was that Bush speaking or Sammy Davis Jr.?

McCain is a joke. I think Mitt is a nicer man with a nice family but he is a RINO.

Bush should not bash Sarah. He was caught flat footed and clueless in the Fall 2008 with the Soros/hedge fund/outside country financial attack caused by Fannie & Freddie.

Bush had no one inside from Wall Street obviously. Paulson could not be trusted because he is a Goldman guy. I wonder if his old man’s pal Nic Brady could have helped? Brady had run Dillon Read on Wall Street.

All I can say is THANK GOD Bush does not support Sarah Palin, now she can say she has nothing to do with the Bush Administration. Who needs to be associated with that train wreck. Look, I voted for Bush, TWICE, but he never stood up for himself, let the Dems walk all over him. Sarah doesn’t need his support, he wants to support Romney, that’s fine by me.

Bush was extremely critical of Barack Obama. Latimer said Bush was "ticked off" after one of Obama's speeches and he said the future president wasn't "remotely qualified" for the challenges of the job.

"(Bush) came in one day to rehearse a speech, fuming. 'This is a dangerous world,' he said for no apparent reason, 'and this cat isn't remotely qualified to handle it. This guy has no clue, I promise you,'" Latimer said.

Latimer also made the controversial assertion that after Sarah Palin was tapped as McCain's running mate, Bush reportedly asked whether she was "the governor of Guam" and said that she was "not even remotely prepared." A former Bush and Palin aide has challenged the accuracy of the charge.

I notice that there are no challenges to the accuracy of Obama evaluation...

Well, from CNN I take it for what it’s worth.

He’s right on Obama.

He’s right on McCain.

I don’t think dumping on Palin is particularly productive, but I do want folks to remain rational regarding her capabilities.

speaking of Sammy DAvis Jr, and with racism on our heels, during one of the Rat Pack’s shows Frank Sinatra quipped that Sammy DAvis Jr. rode on the back of the bus, and Dean Martin smarted off, “No he doesn’t. Hell, he OWNS the bus.”

Bush’s judgment is WAY off on Sarah Palin.

Despite his coddled frat-boy life, he ought to know better by now.

He wasn’t “prepared” for 9-11 and I’d say he did just fine. What EXACT preparation does Sarah Palin lack, George?

Hard to believe. Romney supported ACORN, sucked at AIG's teat,
and has supported 'truthers' as recently as last month.

"... Mitt signed into law a bill supported by ACORN. ...
Today, Governor Mitt Romney signed a law that "cracked down on the practice of 'loan flipping.'"
The article notes state legislator John Quinn, who authored the bill,
held "nearly two-years-plus of hearings and meetings" with ACORN and that ACORN supported the final bill. "

"Oh by the way so are Republican governors Crist of FL, Perry of TX and Schwaznegger of CA,
all of whom have had major initiatives with ACORN in the last year or so.
... Joe Lieberman, Mitt Romney and even Michael Bloomberg even have worked with ACORN."

"Top 20 Recipients of AIG Contributions in 2008"

Now how Romney is that?

Bush did NOT “attack” Palin.

He merely observed, quite correctly, that she wasn’t prepared for the brutal national stage. Anyone who watched what the Dems and the media and the legal wars to which she and her family have since been subjected would have to agree.

I don't. While I don't know W, I did spend over an hour with him in the Oval Office, and the comments sure have his "flavor." Second, it would strike me that of all the candidates, W would be most impressed by a businessman, Romney, and certainly would not like McCain. Nor was McCain's operation good---it was amateurish compared to W's in 2004.

I think if you read W's comments about Palin, they come across as accurate: he worried that the media would tear her apart because of her inexperience (true dat) and would go after her family (mos def). I don't think anyone who was undecided who watched the Couric or Gibson interviews was swayed toward Palin, however "unfair" they were. The most important love you can show someone is to tell the truth about him or her, and until we start doing that for Palin, she will NOT be a viable candidate.

This seems to be spot on. It was widely reported that Jeb supported Romney during the Florida primary, but did not publicly endorse him. There also were numerous reports that Bush, through Karl Rove, repeatedly tried to get McInsane to name Romney as VP nominee.

President Bush never once in his adult life used the word "cat" to refer to another person. Latimer has no clue, I promise you. And given that both Palin and Bush aides are disputing that the president dissed Governor Palin, I call Barbara Streisand on the whole book. Of course Latimer will be all over the MSM news giving sensational interviews. Maybe ABC can have him on the nightly news a few times until Charlie Gibson figures out who Acorn is.

IN the “quotes” published so far, he never attacked Palin, he simply said she wasn’t a national figure (on the day she was announced as VP).

It’s not surprising that the media would try to play up the idea that Bush was “attacking” Palin, because they do like to attack her.

It’s no surprise he didn’t like McCain much; they never really seemed to like each other.

Of course not. I will always admire President Bush for defending this country against terror. I wish he had defended himself better against the attacks from the left. All I am saying is that if he did say those things about Sarah Palin, that’s fine, that is his opinion. He can support whoever he wants to, if he wants to support Romney, that’s fine by me. I do NOT believe that he did not know that she was Governor of Alaska, and instead thought she was Governor of Guam, that’s a lie right there. So after reading that, I doubt anything from that book
