AUSTIN – Eight months into Barack Obama’s presidency, as criticism of his administration seems to reach new levels of volume and intensity each week, the whispers among some of his allies are growing louder: That those who loathe the nation’s first African–American president, and especially those who would deny his citizenship, are driven at least in part by racism.
It’s a feeling that’s acutely felt among those supporters of Obama who are themselves minorities. Conversations with Democrats at an otherwise upbeat Democratic National Committee fall gathering here, an event largely devoted to party housekeeping, reflected a growing anger at what many see as a troubling effort to delegitimize Obama’s hold on the office.

Race is the ultimate straw man argument. From DU to Politico to Huffington to the mainstream media, they all have their talking points — make it about race and you don’t have to discuss issue. You don’t have to take the other side seriously if you can just dismiss them as racists.
What is amazing to me (OK, it’s really not) is that the mainstream media allows the left to get away with insulting the opposition by smearing them with one of the most offensive slurs in the public discourse. Racists? They might as well stand there and accuse the opposition of child buggery.
I wish every token conservative they invite onto the talking heads broadcasts would calmly and plainly point out what the race charge is — an attempt to demonize the opposition and then directly take the discussion back to the issues.
This rising level of discontent is NOT about race. In fact, it’s directed at Congress as much as it is the White House. Conservatives must be very careful they don’t fall for this ploy. It is a straw man, intended to redirect the discussion away from real issues — nothing more. Don’t fall for it!
I heard even the White House gardener was accused of racism, all he did was went up to the white house and asked “Where is the spade and the hoe?”

It is quite ironic, the supposed “post-racial” candidate, using race as a bludgeon. There hasn’t been a single issue where opponents haven’t been characterized as racists.
Oh we saw evidence this weekend of two racists incidents by blacks...oh wait no one is calling Serena or West racists!
