US tyre duties spark clash
Financial Times ^ | September 13, 2009 | Geoff Dyer and Tom Braithwaite

A full-blown trade row erupted on Sunday night between the US and China after Beijing accused Washington of “rampant protectionism” for imposing heavy duties on imported Chinese tyres and threatened action against imports of US poultry and vehicles.

Trade relations between two of the world’s biggest economies deteriorated after Barack Obama, US president, signed an order late on Friday to impose a new duty of 35 per cent on Chinese tyre imports on top of an existing 4 per cent tariff.

Between the labor cartels and the American consumer, Obama sides with the cartels. Shocking.

This man is and his minions are just plain stupid...

And so we get what we (meaning those who voted for him) deserve.

God bless this country.

Lets not forget the decision last wednesday to impose duties of as much as 31 percent on Chinese carbon or alloy tubular steel products. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090910/pl_afp/uschinatradedisputesteel

Obama is perposely starting a trade war it appears, appeasing the steelworkers union.

"The U.S. placed tariffs starting at 35 percent on $1.8 billion of tire imports from China, backing a United Steelworkers union complaint against the second-largest U.S. trading partner. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a9igRzOC55wE

In related liberal madness - Newsweek can't sell their magazine for $37 a year, so to make more money they're going to up the price. Is it all liberals - some weird economic group think?

Or do they really believe that a trade war would help right now?

Liberals don’t think.

The Great Depression was caused, in part, by economic protectionism. So now the Dumocrats want to risk ANOTHER Great Depression by staring trade wars.

1. Stupid and blind catering to Labor Unions or
2. Intentional to seize power and form a Stalinist dictatorship.

You decide.

"Then the US will retaliate..."

That will really do all the American companies making billions exporting to China well, won't it.

Kiss another million jobs goodbye.

Let’s not forget -—> AIG Brouhaha Takes Focus Off Real Issues
By CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER | Posted Thursday, March 19,

If you thought the AIG hysteria was a display of populist cynicism directed at a relative triviality, consider this:

There are more than 6.5 million trucks in the United States. The program Congress terminated allowed 97 Mexican trucks to roam among them. Ninety-seven!

Shutting them out not only undermines NAFTA. It caused Mexico to retaliate with tariffs on 90 goods affecting $2.4 billion in U.S. trade coming out of 40 states.

The very last thing we need now is American protectionism. It is guaranteed to start a world trade war. A deeply wounded world economy needs two things to recover: (1) vigorous U.S. government action to loosen credit by detoxifying the zombie banks and insolvent insurers, and (2) avoidance of a trade war.

Free trade is the one area where the world indisputably turns to Washington for leadership. What does it see? Grandstanding, parochialism, petty payoffs to truckers and a rush to mindless populism. Over what? Over 97 Mexican trucks — and bonus money that comes to what the Yankees are paying for CC Sabathia’s left arm.

tit for tat.

Then they stop buying our debt.

Then we say we’ll never pay them back.

Then WW3 can start.

Then tuna fish live happily ever after.

I know this is strange - but I actually think it’s “stupid”. Did you see what I wrote about Newsweek? They’re not making enough money because not enough people will pay the $37 a year to subscribe - so they’re raising the price. I’m suggesting $500 an issue so they can all vacation more... So yeah - even though this was tried at the beginning of the last great depression - dems will do it again, hoping for a different outcome. It’s “stupid”...

Congress pushed through the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (”CSPIA”) which is causing the needless destruction of billions of dollars of goods and crippling whole industries.

You’re right.
The Baraqqis are depending on China to fund their monster deficits.
Without the Chinese funding, any guesses what interest rates would jump to?

buy stock in cooper tire and replace your tires SOON even if they are not completely worn out.
distributors will raise prices before this even goes into effect-like gas prices.

Its a tax, pure and simple on every American that drives, or buys anything delivered br truck.

This and other things like it that Zero implements will quickly drive up inflation, and that will bail out the banks (nearly all of which are insolvent) holding millions of home and commercial loans that are underwater.

What is worse is US tire companies selling their name to crappy Chinese-made tires. I’ve had eight (two sets)of “Tiger Paw” tires sold by BJ’s Wholesale fail after 5,000 miles. Tred came off, side walls cracked. I protested to BJ’s and the manager told me to get lost.
