GOP defined by its extremists, like Dems in the ’70s
http://blogs.ajc.com ^ | September 12, 2009 | Cynthia Tucker

Posted on 09/13/2009 7:45:58 AM PDT by Maelstorm

The Democratic Party struggled at the national level throughout the 1970s and ’80s — all but shut out of the White House — because it was defined by its most extreme elements: war protestors, loony peaceniks, angry black activists, crime apologists, etc. It took years of concerted effort by the Democratic Leadership Council, Bill Clinton and others to reclaim the Democrats’ reputation as reasonable and pragmatic.

The Republican Party of today is stuck in the same place, defined by Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, birthers, tea partiers and Joe Wilson. John McCain fell into the trap of being defined by the extremists when he chose former Gov. Palin to run on his ticket. She energized the base, but she scared off moderates and intellectually honest Republicans . Today’s big rally in Washington holds the potential for aggravating that reputation. Because TV cameras always focus on the loonies, it won’t take many handheld signs denouncing Obama as a Socialist/Muslim/Nazi or questioning his citizenship to exacerbate the GOP’s reputation as, to quote Politico, the “party of cranks.”

These are hardly extremists and since when have those who believe in the founding principles of this nation been considered extreme? If we are the extremists then this country is lost.

I believe the D.C. police do the aerial shooting at events on the Capitol.

The helicopters were flying so I know that they have the aerial shots.

I don't know how long it takes to get a copy of the photo released.

They’re scared, they are very scared...and they should be. This isn’t going to go away, and the GOP better be shaking in their boots as much as the dims.

The dims have become the party of radicals and they want to rule the world by regulation.

And is she now positing that there are no extremists in the DEms?

They still are extremists. They are defined by the most extreme of their number. Nancy Pelosi is there Speaker, Obama is their President and they are two of the most extreme left individuals to ever hold those offices in the history of this nation.

This is wishful thinking because I see the real story as a revolution involving people who vote in elections.

The hippies and young radicals of the past were sometimes too young to vote. The early part of their protests saw a 21 year old voting age and by the 70’s when 18 year olds voted, few did.

We who are Tea Partiers, 912’ers etc. are older, more mature and ready to vote. The younger Obama supporters are not as motivated.

Maelstorm, you KNOW that private aircraft can’t get anywhere near the Capitol OR the White House and never could.

Since 9/11/01, airspace around DC for some distance (maybe 30 miles?) is absolutely off limits to private aircraft without special permission. One poor pilot took his small private plane within that perimeter and was greeted by F-16s, escorting him out of the area.

What is interesting is the media never show the worst of the left. Never ever cover obscenity in the streets during san fran sicko parades. Have to be forced to cover flag burnings and the burnings of our soldiers in effigy. They can keep up the extremist spin, they will find out the meaning of the word.

How can a hard working accomplished mother scare "intellectually honest Republicans", but a former ACORN worker that touted close ties to domestic terrorists, the Nation of Islam, a communist American hating pastor of twenty years, and criminal power brokers not "scare" them?

Pretty amazing.

Total, unadulterated bovine fecal goo! Those "left wing, extremist nuts" now control not only the Democrat party, but also the Congress and the White House. They're now considered the "mainstream" by those who control the traditional media—because they also control the traditional media!

Conservatives haven't changed in the last thirty years. They only appear "extreme" to those who've moved so far to the left of what used to be the center, they've fallen off the edge of rationality.

The Tea Party movement's core purpose and motivation is opposing Tyranny and (re)affirming Liberty!

How to distinguish Liberty from Tryanny:

  Liberty "Soft" Tyranny
1 Rights are inherent in, and unalienable from, individuals Rights are granted/rescinded by the majority through the government
2 Fundamental rights are life, liberty, and property (absence of coercion) Fundamental rights are food, housing, and healthcare (absence of necessity)
3 Property is owned by individuals who make decisions as to its use, improvement, and transfer Property is owned by 'the public' with government officials making decisions as to its use, improvement, and transfer
4 Government exists to protect the rights of individuals Government exists to plan and direct the resources of society
5 Government authority is decentralized in a federal system with limited and enumerated powers Government authority is centralized in a national system with broad and necessarily intrusive powers
6 Government action is prescribed by rules fixed and announced beforehand Government action is arbitrary and at the descretion of "czars" and planning boards
7 Economic activity is driven by a large number of small entities interacting according to simple rules Economic activity is driven by a small number of large entities operating within the constraints of complex regulations
8 Effective innovation results from contrarian thinking, individual initiative, and the voluntary exchange of property Efficient implementation of government planning requires conformity of opinion, collective action, and the coerced transfer of property
9 Standards of living for the many increase permanently as they utilize improved products and services conceived by the few Standards of living for the many increase temporarily as they utilize property redistributed from the few
10 Altruism is using one's own resources in concrete acts to help specific individuals Altruism is obligating the resources of others for broad-brush programs to help mankind in the abstract

Rights exists solely as a way to fairly decide whose will shall prevail in cases where two or more people disagree. They do not exist for the purpose of enslaving one person for the benefit of another (e.g., the "right" to free medical care.)

Liberty is the right to do whatever does not infringe the rights of others. Rights empower you to help yourself, free from interference by others.

Tyranny makes you a serf to be used by the elite to further their own power. Once upon a time, the nobility used religion to convince the serfs they had to serve the nobility. Modernly, the elite use good people's feelings of altruism to convince them to enslave both themselves and their neighbors. It's basically the same con game, just using a more sophisticated hook.

For a while, I endure the AJC...if it was in a waiting room, or left at the Waffle House, I might pick it up and read "The Vent", but that's all. However, I have not actually bought an Atlanta newspaper in about 15 years...much less subscribe.

However, with idiots like Cynthia-I-see-a-racist-behind-every-tree Tucker, I won't even pick up a free copy and read it...it's garbage. She's a real jewel of a managing editor, she has alienated all of her white readers, and very few blacks even take the paper.

Due to declining advertising dollars, as business owners don't want to be identified with the radical Ms. Tucker either, they have physically shrunk the paper to the size of "The Weekly Reader" we used to get in grammar school...how tacky.

Now, back to my point!

It's about time some GOP "extremists" got off their duffs and started speaking out.

The problem all along has been that there were very few GOP extremists and that allowed the dems to run all over us.

Yes, we have extreme views, such as believing in America, believing in the Constitution, believing in freedom, and believing in individual acheivement.

Extremist views like hating socialism, communism, and even liberalism as it threatens our country.

Yeah, cythia - you racist windbag - America is about sick of everything being about "race". Shouting "racism" is the last vestige of a bygone era when blacks finally stood up for and got equal rights. That event has been turned into a political football of the left, and they virtually can't move without hurling the word around.

Like a bratty teen trying to hurt their parents by shouting, "You don't love me", the cry of "racism" has been the bratty cry of the left anytime they don't get their way, or, are admonished for their dastardly behaviors.

Well, the best way to cure the bratty teen is to ignore him/her, and the best way to cure the bratty libs is to totally ignore them.

Try this on for size: if everything and every one the left calls "racist" is true, then why aren't the libs filing discrimination lawsuits against the perps, and winning them?

Because, the "racism" exists only the minds of the libs who are not getting their spoiled brat ways, and no racism was committed.

Calling Joe Wilson a "racist" because he recognized and called out obama's lie, is not racist. To say that would insinuate that black people can't lie...which we all know is bogus. Everyone lies from time to time.

So, Cynthia-thank-goodness-for-spell-check Tucker can just take her rants and shove them...she has single-handedly killed the AJC. If it wasn't for Cynthia, there would be no racists left in America...except maybe for obama.

I believe McCain and his campaign staff lost the election. Were it not for Palin, many more conservatives would have stayed home and Obama would have completely trounced McCain. If the Republicans pull another dinosaur out of congress for 2012(like Dole and McCain), I believe a third party will arise rapidly and the Republican party will wither away. The RNC better wake up, gird their loins, and prepare to battle for this country or they will die along with our freedoms.
