Pregnant woman holds intruder at gun point (She:"Mine's bigger than yours")

(MOBILE, Ala.) Sept. 10 - The lesson here is never threaten an expecting mother, especially if she's armed with a shotgun.

"I was angry," Randi Fairley says. "I was really mad that he was in my house."

At around 4 A.M. Sunday, Fairley was wide awake, because her unborn daughter was kicking. That is when she heard a noise; it sounded like someone touching a potato-chip bag downstairs.

"I came and looked over the stairs," Fairley says. "I saw this kid, down at the bottom of the stairs. He was about to grab my computer."

Fairley is six and a half months pregnant. So, she says she yelled down at Justin Delhomme, he walked out of the house and she grabbed a shotgun. In the street, Fairley confronted the 18 year old. "He pulled a gun on me, and I told him, 'You know, you need to put that away before I shoot you because mine's bigger,' and he put it back in his pocket."

I am going to brave the flames and state my opinion:

Once the perp had left the house, she should have let him go. She was carrying a baby.

Justin will ever afterwards be known as the Potato Chip burglar. (Betcha can’t eat just one!)

This was a nice touch:
“...saying he was sorry and had a baby he had to take care of”
“Police say they recovered several stolen items from Delhomme, including $5,000 in cash, electronics and marijuana.”
Yeah, that’s takin’ care of baby!

Once he leaves the house, he may never be seen again! I too would at least want a description of someone who broke in at 4AM.....and she had every right to take her gun with her on her inspection.

Hats off to her.

(doing nothing could just mean that he would come back and that would definitely put her in danger)

A fine lesson in life this young 18-year-old male just learned. Don't ever, EVER, get a pregnant woman mad. A little upset might be OK, but anything above that and you're take your life in your own hands.

Sorry, with my family I take no chances and anyone who breaks into a dwelling is presumed to have deadly intentions.

He pulled a gun on me, and I told him, 'You know, you need to put that away before I shoot you because mine's bigger,' and he put it back in his pocket."

That was the time to shoot him. He could have shot her before she could react...Well, maybe depending on the details. If she already had the shotgun trained on him, and he had just barely cleared his pocket or baggy pants or wherever he had the gun, then she likely could have still shot him first if he didn't obey instructions.

I'd still have shot him as soon as he deployed or started to deploy a weapon.

Of course I also would not have followed him outside.

Pretty smart.

My (ex)-boyfriend wondered why I was so fond of large-caliber weapons. I had, at the time, a Smith & Wesson .45, a .357 magnum revolver, and a 12 gauge shotgun (I’ve since sold the .357). He said, “Is this your way of compensating for not having a penis?”

I just laughed. Needless to say, we stopped dating soon after that.

You're right, she could have...but being frightened all the time is something that the general American public seems overly afflicted with. Fear is paralyzing and creates a sense of impotence. WE THE PEOPLE have been far too afraid for far too long, and it's time to take charge, just like this pregnant mother did.

Kudos to the Mom - I probably would have done the same.

As well you should. Maybe this will make would-be criminals think twice. We must not continue to allow ourselves to be cowed into submission, as the left would prefer.

There’s another problem too. If you pursue someone who’s fleeing after a conflict and they pull on you and you shoot them, in many places you may be the one charged with murder.

Just not worth it to risk your life and freedom.

He kept trying to psychoanalyze me, despite having no training in psychology.

He also suggested that my fondness for large-caliber weapons was a way of compensating for my small breasts.

“You want to talk, talk. It’s time to shoot... shoot!” (more or less what Eli Wallach said in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly).

I’m happy it worked out the way it did, but she almost gave up her life saving advantage.

Of course I also would not have followed him outside.

Or let him leave the house for that matter. A 12 gauge is a great persuader. Or any other guage for that matter, but my serious social purposes shotgun is a 12, as is my bird/clay pigeon gun.

it should have been “put the gun on the ground and walk away, punk” - oh, yeah, “and your wallet with your ID, too.”

What she did was even better, from a community service standpoint.

Fairley says she held Delhomme until the cops came with a little help from her husband and mother

Hopefully one of them took his gun while she held the shotgun on him.
