Two sources with knowledge of the situation told the Tribune today they have been notified that Christopher Kelly, a key figure in the federal corruption probe into former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is dead.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office today confirmed that a body identified as Christopher Kelly was brought to the morgue from Stroger Hospital. The office would not provide any details, including his age, address and manner of death, because the family had not yet arrived at the office.
Kelly’s attorney, Michael Monico, declined to comment today when reached by a Tribune reporter.
Kelly is a former confidant and top fundraiser for Blagojevich, who was accused of using his office to leverage campaign donations and benefits for himself and his family.
Kelly, who was indicted alongside Blagojevich in April, pleaded guilty this week in a separate federal case.
On Tuesday, in a surprise move just a day before his scheduled trial, Kelly, owner of a roofing business, pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud as part of a kickback scheme to illegally obtain $8.5 million in work at O'Hare International Airport.
At the time, Kelly, 51, said he was under pressure from federal prosecutors to cooperate in their investigation of Blagojevich, but he refused.
Kelly faced a sentence of almost 5 years in prison on top of the roughly 3 years in prison he got in June for his guilty plea to tax offenses.

Taking no chances on this guy giving up what he knows under pressure? I'm sure this trial was to put pressure on his Blago affiliation...
When you play the game at that level, you don’t take chances. Hence the potential that this was not a death by natural causes or an accident. This smacks of someone reducing their exposure, tidying up loose ends.
Calm down, calm down. It’s just a case of that 24-hour cancer that’s going around Chicago. Most of us are immune to it.

Kelly was involved in some kind of O'Hare construction deal and was being pinched to testify against Blago (who blew off his visit on Fox and Friends this morning after sending them an email at 3am).
In Illinois, there are always tight connections between Barry, Axelrod, Rahm, Blago, Kelly, Rezko, Daley, and the rest of the cesspool that has oozed its way into Wash DC. It is one big clusterfork.
Once he is convicted he is offered a lesser sentence for giving up others. Usually higher ups like the big Ozero.

But usually the info comes before the deal is signed and sealed. I’m sure the agreement would be conditional to the value of the information and he wouldn’t get out of the room until the info is revealed, and verified for veracity.

Where was Rahm? Probably the same place he was the night obama’s gay lover Donald Young was shot to death in his car. We also have the guy that was involved in the obama passport peek, shot in the head. Is this #3? How many were there that we never knew about?

There is no short-cut to explain the entire cesspool of Chicago-Springfield politics that has oozed its way into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. It seems Kelly was to testify against Blago after being convicted himself of dirty deeds.
Kelly winds up dead, with no details forthcoming. Who knows what real estate and/or fundraising paths may have crossed between Patty, Blago, Kelly, Rezko, and maybe even Daley, Barry, or other "stars of the sewer system" that we call Illinois politics, that gave us Rahm, Axelrod, Barry, et al.
Blago was to have appeared this morning on Fox & Friends, but submitted an email at 3am that he may not appear - well he did not show - did he know about Kelly at that point - inquiring minds want to know.....????
