DALIAN, China UN climate chief Yvo de Boer said on Friday he believed nations would sign a "significant" deal on how to reduce the effects of global warming at a conference in Copenhagen in December.
"I am confident we can reach a significant agreement," De Boer told AFP on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions, known as the "Summer Davos in Asia", in the Chinese port city of Dalian.
The December 7-18 talks in Denmark, under the 192-nation UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), aim to craft a successor treaty to the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.
But major differences remain between developed and less developed nations over who should bear the brunt of the responsibility for making carbon emissions cuts.
US climate envoy Todd Stern on Thursday described the ongoing UN-led negotiations as "difficult". The same day, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband warned there was a "real danger" of failure in Copenhagen.
But De Boer, the executive secretary of the UNFCCC, sounded a brighter note.
He hailed the European Union, which has proposed tens of billions of euros (dollars) in global aid for poor nations to fight global warming, as well as what he called Tokyo's "dramatic change of position" on the issue.
Japan's next prime minister Yukio Hatoyama on Monday pledged that his country would seek to cut its emissions by 25 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels -- far more than the eight-percent reduction vowed by outgoing Taro Aso.

It looks like the new Japanese government is buying into this hook, line and sinker. Keep an eye on what the United States agrees to in December. I can see the senate passing almost anything without debate, and with the help of some really, really dumb republicans.

Now, now. It would be impolite to imply that the lying, whoring, cheating, stealing, immoral, godless, lazy, incompetent, ignorant, deceitful bastards in the Senate are illiterate.

The marxists of the world have finally found the ideal vehicle for taking over private property and redistributing it - global warming!

There is so much institutionalized corruption that it would be no surprise to find out Saudi $$$ are behind the push to criminalize lightbulbs, eliminate personal transportation devices (cars), and charge us for the air we breathe.
Islam has always been on the march but now they are very well funded and think that it's 'their time". Annything they can do to demoralize, despirit and compromise western civilization is part of their plan.

I don't think the Muslims of the world can work together well enough to have a “global strategy.” But they sure can be united by some things, like hating Israel and hating us. Other than that they would happily go back to shooting each other over watering holes, like they are doing in Sudan. And I can't think that the Saudis would be all that happy to see America's love affair with the personal vehicle and the V-8 come to an end.

If the sun’s behavior doesn’t change, winter is going to come early and HARD. December could be too late for them. Thank God. Literally.

God is many things, and one of them is consistent. Following His pattern of late, the Copenhagen conference on global warming will be buried under 20 feet of snow and the entire city will experience a white out of biblical proportions.
