WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she sees little support for sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, forecasting a potential showdown with the Obama administration over how to win the war.

Pelosi's comments put President Barack Obama in an uneasy position as he considers whether to side with his top commander in Afghanistan, who is expected in coming weeks to ask for more troops and other resources.

She is the highest-ranking Democrat to signal that any White House or Pentagon push for more troops will be resisted in Congress.

"I don't think there's a great deal of support for sending more troops to Afghanistan in the country or in the Congress," Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters.

The real lame brains are those conservatives who are willing to give Obama a blank check to get us deeper into the Afgha mess.

I think she’s correct. It’s up to the president to lead on this issue, but of course that won’t happen. The question for the leaders is whether or not it is important to stay. If it is, they need to explain to America why. And they need to inspire confidence that they have the will and capability of carrying out whatever the hell it is we’re supposed to be doing there. If they aren’t up for it, then go ahead and pull out already. Sh-t or get off the pot.

Didn’t the Bimbette party run on a platform of a larger force and increased troop strength in Afghanistan?

And, hey, Barry! How is that search for OBL going? Haven’t heard you say anything about it in, oh, over a year.

And here I was led to believe that Afghanistan was the ‘right war’. Didn’t ‘bambi say that?

I am beginning to notice that Democrats lie about everything, except government run healthcare of course.

Well, so is the house's version of health care reform. So is the speaker.

When Bush was in office, the Democrats though Afghanistan was the war we had to win. Now they think it’s the war we have to lose. Democrats and their various leftist friends will not fight for anything - including keeping their fellow citizens safe.
