It’s awful, isn’t it? Especially the new system that weights the posts that you see by that stupid ‘star commenter’ system they have. Though, I have to say, I’ve had no problem with dissent. I was actually banned by the more right-leaning Engadget for using the word ‘environazi’, but they’ve put up with me at Lifehacker/Gizmodo for a while.
The problem is that the commenters are too stupid to argue with. Once in a while, it’s fun to run them around a bit and it’s eye-opening to have some environmental discussions with them. Peel back the top layer and you’ll soon realize that you are talking to people who support eugenics and other barbarism in a quest to ‘saving the planet’. These people have been brainwashed into thinking that the collective world will be hurt by the actions of the individual and that individual must be controlled in order to stop that from happening. There are a few of us over there though that fight that kind of crap when it comes up. Man, do they get pissed when we do...lol.
They were really ticked when all of us libertarian/conservative leaning folks kind of took over their whole stupid post on ‘ethical eating’ which was offensive and had zero place at Lifehacker.
Oh, wait, they did threaten to ban me during the election for pointing out that the Nazis were socialists and pointing out that there was nothing liberal about eliminating secret ballots for union votes, silencing dissent on talk radio, and raising everyone’s electric bill to ‘save the planet’.
Oh yeah, that’s another thing—any post involving food will have Polian’s quote pasted into the comments about 80 times.
The people who read Lifehacker—generally—are simple-minded toadstools.
