Senator Demint releases statement on President Obama’s speech

Senator Jim Demint releases a statement on President Obama’s speach: Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, made the following statement:

“Tonight’s speech was a perfect example of why most Americans oppose President Obama’s health plan. He continues to insist a government takeover of health care is the only option, while providing no proof it will lower costs or improve care, and he belittles the millions of informed Americans who oppose his plan. In short, his message tonight was: Be quiet America, Washington knows best.“

“The bill that President Obama outlined tonight was the same thing we’ve heard from Democrats for years: more government control, more regulation, more mandates, more taxes, and less freedom and less choice for Americans. The President’s claim that government run health care will not increase the deficit is offensive, as Medicare is tens of trillions in debt and Medicaid is bankrupting states.“

“But a government takeover of health care is not the only option; there are better solutions to accomplish the President’s goals. Republicans have pushed for common sense reforms for years. I have introduced my own bill, the Health Care Freedom Plan, that would ensures every American has access to health insurance they can own, afford and keep forever, but without raising taxes or taking away patient choice.“

For more information on Senator DeMint’s Health Care Freedom Plan, click here.

The Health Care Freedom Plan:

• Protects the right of Americans to keep their employer-based plan if they so choose.

• Provides Americans without employer-based health insurance with vouchers of $2000 for individuals and $5000 for families to purchase health insurance.

• Allows Americans with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) to use their HSA funds to pay for insurance premiums, encouraging employers to contribute to their employees’ HSAs.

• Creates a national market for health insurance by allowing individuals to purchase health insurance plans in any state.

• Provides block grants to states to develop innovative models that ensure affordable health insurance coverage for Americans with pre-existing health conditions.

• Reduces predatory and frivolous malpractice lawsuits against physicians and hospitals.

• Assures that every health care consumer has access to price information prior to treatment so they can make informed decision about their care.

• Repeals financial bailouts (TARP) to fund health care vouchers.

Sen. Demint your plan sounds interesting. Can you steer me to your Constitutional authority for passing such legislation?

Who else can say two little words and make the whole Democrat party stumble backwards as a vampire from a cross?

If you’re the Supreme Court this question was settled decades ago.

Not bad. Though their collective knowledge of military and foreign affairs, the main job of the CIC, wouldn’t fill one of Hunter’s shoes.

Not sure, but no one comes close to Hunter on borders, military matters, and downsizing the gov’t.

More cart before the horse nonsense.
Why don't you focus on stopping Obamacare first and then worry about alternative plans?
You're not going to abolish Medicare and Medicaid overnight and throw all health insurance to the free market immediately. Which is why DeMint's (and Whole Foods CEO) plans make sense right now.

Provides Americans without employer-based health insurance with vouchers of $2000 for individuals and $5000 for families to purchase health insurance.

For crying out loud...it doesn't take a genius economist to figure out what this will do. Employers will cancel their health care policies left and right to let their workers pick up the government welfare check. In the end, everybody will get a government voucher which will come with heavy strings attached. And bingo! There we are, saddled with the tyranny of government health care.

It’s unbelievable to me that the left, led by Obama, really see no problem insulting Americans who don’t agree with their agenda. Day in and day out they call us names, insult us, tell lies about us and generally demonize us.

Do they really believe that they have so much power that they can do this without experiencing repurcusions. They are alienating even Americans who voted for Obama now. Curious, very curious behavior. Something is up or they wouldn’t be so damn smug. Maybe the next election is fixed already or something.

Obama can’t explain the details because his goal is not about medicine or health, etc. His goal is to make every single person dependent on government for health, food, transportation, medicine, etc. including government ownership of all housing. Healthcare reform is a smokescreen. All income and property will be his. Premiums you paid insurance companies in the past will now go to Obama. Ditto pharmacies. Money will go to reparations, distributing wealth to the poor minorities, etc. Progressives think they know better than you how to run your life. He has to be removed from office or we will never regain our freedoms.

My point is that the Republicans are coming out and touting their plans when in fact Congress has ZERO authority under the Constitution to enact legislation concerning health care. This is purely a state's rights issue. I'm sick of Republicans talking about their plans when in fact they should be saying, "You know we as Congress don't really have the power to enact legislation in this area." Instead they continue to come up with Unconstitutional plans of their own.
