NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. (AP) - A New Cumberland woman has apologized for leaving her baby alone in a hot car while she went shoplifting at a Wal-Mart.

Twenty-three-year-old Elizabeth Marie Lancaster says she made a huge mistake she'll never forget.

After appearing at a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Brooke County, she told a TV station she is mortified by her actions and will accept whatever punishment is necessary.

Lancaster is charged with child neglect causing injury and shoplifting.

Police say the baby had been left alone in Lancaster's car for at least 20 minutes last month in the Weirton Wal-Mart's parking lot. The car was running and the windows were down, but it was an 85-degree day.

Yea, what was she thinking? Bring the baby and you can stuff a whole bunch more stuff in the carrier and the baby bag.
Amateur.

“The car was running and the windows were down, “

I guess she didn’t believe that people shopping at Wal-Mart would bother to ‘steal’ her car.

Everyone of these clowns when facing the judge apologizes; no matter how heinous the underlying crime. Many people seem to expect a criminal’s “apology” and probably believe that justice has been served by the uttered words. I believe some wrongs are not subject to “apology.” sIn my book the severe injury or death of a child is not forgiven by an “apology.”

For what, shoplifting or getting caught?

Certainly not for child endangerment.

Oh. Well, as long as she's really really sorry, I guess we can let it go...

Why is this still considered a crime? I mean, it's not a baby: it's a mass of tissue, a "punishment".

I would think that this woman would get a Congressional Medal Of Freedom from the jOker Himself for getting rid of such an unwanted "nuisance."
