Michael Savage Out at KNEW
BayNewser ^ | Sep 10, 2009 | Jason Turbow on

Posted on 09/10/2009 12:04:12 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Rich Lieberman sends word that KNEW (910 AM) has dropped Michael Savage as of this morning.

The station's program director, John Scott, was quoted on Lieberman's Web site as saying that they were "headed in a new direction and a new mind set at this station. Savage does not fit in any longer."

Coming from a guy who still puts Glenn Beck on the air, this is, to say the least, confusing. Word on the street points to internal friction with station management; losing Savage's significant salary might also have been a factor.

Could it possibly - just maybe - be that Beck spends a lot less time talking about his nelly little dog and what wine he had with last night’s dinner?

Just a thought.

When we lived in the Bay Area I used to try to listen to Michael Savage. However, he would get so worked up that my blood pressure would rise and I've wind up sick to my stomach.

I don’t understand this. Does he do a local show too? What does this mean?

losing Savage’s significant salary might also have been a factor.

Too many complaint calls and a spineless ownership is the reason. Libs are probably boycotting all of their sponsors etc. Can’t afford to get rid of Beck.

IMO Savage is tiring of the radio schtick, he’s just going thru the motions.

I think it’s deeper than that. Savage has lost his spark, his desire to do radio. He has made comments in recent weeks that the only reason he hasn’t already quit is so he has a bully pulpit to try to get himself off the UK’s no fly list.

He used to have such a “fire in the belly” that he made you want to listen to the meatball recipes and dog stories but now that his spark is gone, he doesn’t care to be interesting anymore.

Yeah, my hubby would say that savage has been "calling into" his show for the past few years.

I can only imagine how much whining he'll do today.

The few days I've switched over to see what he's talking about, all I hear him do is whine like a little bitch that 'nobody loves him'. ..not even his fellow conservatives in the media and talk radio.

John Scott is a McCain supporter who probably gets upset when he hears Savage. As far as "John and Ken" going over big during drive time in the Bay Area, don't think so. They are L.A. all the way.

KNEW will probably plummet in ratings after this since he was their biggest draw, and Wiener (Savage) will end up somewhere else, maybe back home at KSFO.

Almost all of these guys start out local and move to larger markets or syndication as they build an audience. I’m pretty sure this was Savage’s home station. You would think they were getting a significant amount of the syndication fees as the originating station, but maybe not.

Y’know, I think you’re right about that. I give him the occasional listen, since the only thing opposite him here in Houston is a financial call-in show that I don’t find very interesting, and Savage hasn’t had the gonna-go-boom factor he used to have.

I used to listen through what I didn’t much like because I knew it would eventually pay off. It doesn’t seem like that happens much anymore.

Too bad, because at his best he is genuinely entertaining.

KSFO 560 was his home station. When he went nationwide he did two things:

His head got really big, and he started believing the he was the story.

He priced himself out of KSFO.

Then he went off the deep end...

I picked that up to.

It's only worth listening to about the first 45 minutes of his show. By then he runs out of steam and starts playing taped interviews.

The funny thing about you saying John and Ken are “L.A. all the way,” is that I first heard them on a station in New Jersey in the early 90s before they went to L.A. It was a very NJ station.

Savage has his moments, but you have to listen to a lot of junk and filler to get to those moments.

I mean, how many times do we need to know what he had to eat last night at Alioto’s?

I’ll put the amount of Time Rush talks about something relevant against Savage’s time any day. Savage has become about Savage. Occasionally he is insightful, but he has lost much of his appeal since it has become the “I’m so mistreated by the world” show.

He doesn't care about being the best, or even his own personal best anymore and many talk radio listeners have figured that out and they are moving on to other hosts who actually want to be behind the mic.

My my,,Now let me get this straight; YOU are criticizing Savage because he has crazy rants? While simultaneously calling him a nut, using “arse” as though you were Chaucer, and call me “fanatic” and “crazy”?

And all i did was dare to notice that talking about his dinner and his dog, isn’t all THAT different from listening to stories of cigars, diets, West palm beach, how his kitten wakes him up, Bizjets,,,etc,,

Thats REALLLLLY fanatic of me, huh?

Actually Savage has been losing out to Levin (who is on at the same time on KSFO) for sometime. They need someone who actually cares about being on the radio to want to go toe to toe with Levin and fight for listeners.

I used to like Savage and then he just started getting downright mean, calling his conservative hosts names and degrading them. He even said something derogatory about Glenn the other night after Van Jones quit. I had to turn the station. He’s so pompous. Where Glenn speaks out on fact, on reseach, Savage speaks on emotion, tooting his own horn over and over. There’s only so much of “I’m right, you’re wrong’ attitude anyone can take.

Ohhhh, that explains it! As a foreigner, i guess you wouldn’t understand! And also, name calling is rather tacky. Can’t you refute my point? Or can you only call names?

Also, include football, stories of his dad, stories of the Kansas City chiefs,,, the list rolls on, and on, and on,,,

I enjoy Rush greatly, but it’s a little hypocritical to criticize Savage for talking about his experience on last nights walk, sailing, or his dog, and then give Rush a pass. Pull your lips away from Rush’s “arse”. Dittos!

RE: "John and Ken"

"'John and Ken' going over big during drive time in the Bay Area, don't think so."

In fact, I believe my memory is correct. KSFO years ago thought they'd go over well in the Bay Area and put them on. They bombed. Immediately.

A special show and Bay Area call-in was arranged with the two. At the time KSFO was mostly local hosts and the callers mostly complained that John and Ken didn't have Bay Area topics. Also, most of the local hosts were more attuned to national topics that were not always in the MSM.

I know that it was a pair from L.A. I believe it was John and Ken.

Savage is a real a-hole in real life. KSFO and KGO share space. People at both stations hated his guts so much, they had to put the ISDN line in his home. Armstrong and Getty in the AM have the highest ratings at the station. The change was announced during their show (910 Am at 9:10 on 9-10)

“Another stab in the back...! Who are they? NOTHING..! WORMS..! They’re nothing —LESS than nothing..!! What have they done —you tell me that..! They’re worse than the Brits..! Worse than the Ban Savage Brits..!!”

“7 best sellers, 20 books 2 masters and a PhD, —at a REAL school in a science I should mention— but what have THESE subhumans done, huh? Answer me that..!!

“This means nothing to me —LESS than nothing...All those nothings who said Savage wouldn’t last, Savage wouldn’t last, WHERE ARE THEY NOW, HUH..? I’m still here, and they’re GONE —gone like the wind, you hear me..?

“And so it will be with them...!

(I have a PhD in Savage-ese, you see?)

KNEW's promotion for 9/10 on 910: "Be careful what you ask for . . . ."

I had a feeling that they were about to drop Savage. I can only imagine the volume of complaints against Savage -- IMO the majority from people who have no love for America.

RE: "He doesn't care about being the best, or even his own personal best anymore . . . ."

Maybe whether Savage knows it yet or not there may be a Bigger reason.

Savage does not need radio -- he's an inch away from being America's sole defender of true free speech.

Not since the 18th century has our free speech been in this much jeopardy.

Savage's invitations to defend free speech in two countries is a sign that he has been Chosen.

That is Savage's future, arguably as great as any Founding Father had.
