From the BNO Newsroom.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (BNO NEWS) -- A day after South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst in Congress during President Obama's speech, political figures from all fronts are condemning his actions.

But not only political leaders are voicing their outrage, also citizens are taking part. About 18 hours after his outburst, Wilson's Democratic opponent, Rob Miller, had received more than 11,000 individual grassroots contributions raising more than $400,000, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee told BNO News. "It's a shattering amount," he said, while adding that contributions are still coming in.

Something fishy is going on here--wonder whose credit card is being charged for all these 'donations'??

I don't know anything about SC politics, is this outspoken Joe Wilson worth conservatives donating to HIS election coffers, or is there a better candidate in the wings that needs our help?

This is probably Obama & friends pumping in foreign cash from their coffers. Who would be so angry that they would contribute to Joe’s opponent, ridiculous.

I’m having a lot of trouble believing that 11,000 people even know who Joe Wilson’s last opponent was, let alone thinking that they were so outraged that they would send him actual money.

Given the work ethic of the typical hard-left activist, I'd say just about all of it.

This jive crappola has been running through the news all day.

I would bet heavily that Joe Wilson’s campaign coffers have grown much more substantially than his opponents since last evenings events.

I’m betting this is based on some DU poll asking how many might donate rather than dollars in a campaign war chest.

Rush pointed out that Miller’s campaign was $400K in debt, so the contributions have merely retired his debt. That is, if the numbers are true.

Basically, the DNC is pumping out money for Wilson’s opponent to send the message (AGAIN) that anyone who speaks out against Obama will be punished. It’s all about intimidation.

It’s one thing to pledge, but yet another to actually pay. Are these “pledges” actual payment or merely that: Pledges?

good. His seat is untouchable in 2010 if he won by 8 last year in a GOP down year. Let them throw money down the drain. My bet is that Mr. Wilson will be getting some ca-ching, too.

First reaction: What recession? Guess the economic downturn hasn’t hit the disposable income of the average lib.

Second reaction: Let them throw away their money. If Wilson hammers the conservative message home, he’ll sweep anyone they throw against him in the next election.

LOL people ARE contributing to Wilson’s reelection here in SC, a local radio station pledging to raise $100,000 and the first caller pledged $500.

Definitely ~ every Democrat dollar spent in this district is a Democrat dollar that won't be spent somewhere else where we may have a tight race.

Democrats have difficulty thinking more than a couple of steps ahead; else they'd realize that a guy who won by 8 pts when Obama was winning, definitely isn't going to be given up by his electorate.

Frankly I think the Democrats are telling lies about the donations.

I simply don’t believe any of this because it is being made to appear what Wilson said so outraged the libs they immediately sent in money to his opponent. Since the libs are ALWAYS outraged this doesn’t carry water.
And what does it really mean? In 2008 when Wilson was elected he won by 8 points in a year where the Republicans were cremated around the country due to what the American voting public thought was a Messiah. Well there will certainly be no coat tails next year for a lib who challenges Wilson, quite the opposite really. And being as all politics is local, I see Wilson cruising to re election by a comfortably wide margin.

Mea culpa. I don’t know where I got that 55000. You are correct about 11000. That should have been $400000/11,000. If every one of the 11000 donated $36.36 that would be $400000. Obviously not every donor sent that exact amount. I have never made a donation to any politician that included pennys.
Does FOIA cover this sort of thing?? The FEC will make that information available at its own speed. Open secrets.org will have it on their website in eventually. Sorry for any confusion or misunderstanding I may have caused. I think any check less than $200 i.e. $199.99 does not have to disclose the donor. IIRC 0bama recieved many checks for $199.99.

I don’t think they are lying about the contributions going up. They are illegally funneling money into his opponent’s coffers under the cover of the lie that it is public reaction to Wilson’s comments.
