Breaking - "Poll: Speech boosts support for reform" (Barf alert)
UPI ^ | Sept. 10, 2009 at 12:36 AM EST | UPI

Posted on 09/09/2009 10:30:59 PM PDT by BP2

U.S. President Barack Obama speaks on health care reform before a joint session of the U.S. Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington

U.S. President Barack Obama's healthcare speech Wednesday earned a big bump in support for his reform plans, a poll indicated.

Among Americans who watched the address to a joint session of Congress, the percentage favoring his plans rose from 53 percent before the speech to 67 percent after, a national CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll found.

Whether the bump will last remains a big unknown, said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

"Bill Clinton got similar numbers after his 1993 (healthcare) address to Congress, but five months later, a majority of the country no longer supported his plan," Holland said.

CNN said the audience for the speech appeared to be more Democratic than the U.S. population and that may have influenced the results.

Among those polled, 56 percent said they had a "very positive" reaction to the speech, while 21 percent reported a somewhat positive reaction and 21 percent reported a negative reaction.

More than 70 percent said Obama clearly stated his goals, while about 25 percent said he failed to do so.

The telephone poll, based on responses from 427 Americans, was conducted just before and just after the speech. The margin of error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

TOPICS: Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: healthcare; medical; obama; obamacare

We all knew this would be coming - flash polls from idiots who watched Obama's speech because they were too lazy to look for the remote buried in their couch.

And the part about "favoring his plans ... 53 percent before the speech" speaks volumes about who was sampled in this CNN phone poll.

The motivation from the speech and the Left pales in comparison to the rest of the nation who both fear and despise ObamaCare.

AND they polled all of 427 ''Americans''. Not registered voters, not likely voters...just ''Americans''.

427? ''Americans''? Why does this ersatz ''poll'' even get any coverage in the media...oh, shoot, wait...it's the state-run media shilling for the Kenyan again.

Sorry. Dumb question. Apols for wasting your and anyone else's time.

On the August 19, 1998, CNN Moneyline show with Lou Dobbs, CNN Polling Director Keating Holland discussed how he manipulated Clinton's numbers upward to meet their expectations after plummeting from the Lewinsky affair. Holland's justification for this breach of polling integrity was that the question had been worded wrong and if different wording had been used, Clinton's numbers would have been higher.

‘They only polled 18% Republicans in this and 45% Democrats.’

Forget CNN. Rasmussen releases it’s daily poll at 9:30am. I care more about that one. Zero may see a bump, but then he always tanks on the weekend. The speech tonight won’t change anyone’s mind.

On top of that they likely used a phonebook for downtown Chicago.

Additionally in the long run I don't think it benefits him to get into a personal pi$$ing contest with a private citizen (Sarah Palin).

We knew it was coming indeed and would we expect any less from Pravda? Of course not.

Let’s see, ABC had entire day with administration on health care—everything from healthy eating with michelle to nightly news in blue room.

NBC had day with wh and Oboomboom and sells bama gear.

I won’t even go into “Tingle up my leg MSNBC” because that is not right on so many levels....

CNN Anderson Cooper had private interviews with him.

Not sure where CBS is in the scheme of things.

I am sure we will hear nothing but fawning praise for next week or two.

‘Additionally in the long run I don’t think it benefits him to get into a personal pi$$ing contest with a private citizen (Sarah Palin).’

I agree, but his die-hard supporters hate Sarah so much, those kind of attacks are red meat for them. Classless, for sure, but he needs to keep those nuts happy.

Big Speeches like this usually work. Here’s a poll done after Bush’s SOTU in 2006. He got simliar if not better results than Obama did.

2006 really turned out well for him and the GOP.

Agreed, completely, and well said! ''Polls'' such as this are why alleged pollsters get such a (well-deserved) bad name.

Crikey. I designed polls that were statistically more valid than this abortion when I was an undergrad. Nothing hard about it, either.

One day the majority will be sorry for supporting the Communist take over of the U.S. But by then it will be too late. 0bamacare, Cap and Trade and countless othe programs will be law. Free elctions will no longer exist.

"White House health-care adviser Ezekiel Emanuel blames the Hippocratic Oath for the 'overuse' of medical care." (WSJ)

Instead of "First, Do No Harm" Dr. Emmanuel recommends the following (his chart:)

This graphic is from Dr. Emmanuel's article: "Principles for Allocation of Scarce Medical Interventions" The Lancet, January 31, 2009.

White House health-care adviser Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel is Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel's brother.

This was the strategic blunder that sealed 0bamaCare’s defeat.
He offered nothing new, and by addressing particular complaints by merely trying to wave them away as he did, he only brought attention to them., particularly the coverage of illegal aliens, thanks to the outburst by Rep. Joe Wilson.

Tomorrow, all of the talk will be about 0bama being called out as a liar. It matters little what position the media takes on the veracity of the claim. What matters no one will be talking about what 0bama wanted them to talk about. Instead, he will be in a defensive position. 0bama cannot gain ground if the question is over whether or not he is a liar. At best, he can only hold his ground, but not advance. However, the very accusation adds fuel to the burning outrage against 0bama, his politics, and his performance as president.

He panicked, fear mongering pitch for why we must urgently pass his overpriced healthcare reforms now was clumsy and smacked of desperation. It did not win over any skeptics.
This was the final frenetic deathcry of 0bamacare.

Expect this from the MSM:
“After Speech Obama Approval rates 99%”
“Obama score big,Republicans in complete disarray”
“President gives greatest speech since Sermon on the Mount!”
“Obamas Health Care bill a shoe in!”
“Greatest President in history, gives greatest speech ever!”
“Obama 99% Approval, Sarah Palin arrested for slander.”
“ Heckler at speech forced to resign.”
“Obama wins another victory for the people!”
“Problems solved, speech wins over Congress.”

Brent Hume provided a poll that showed that 53% were AGAINST ObamaCare. Irony that CNN would provide one that allegedly indicates 53% favoring.....
