I'm hoping buyer's remorse on Obama will finally cause a Jewish shift to the right.
One of the most extraordinary features of Barack Obama's victory over John McCain was his capture of 78% of the Jewish vote. To be sure, there was nothing extraordinary about the number itself. Since 1928, the average Jewish vote for the Democrat in presidential elections has been an amazing 75%—far higher than that of any other ethno-religious group.
Yet there were reasons to think that it would be different in 2008. The main one was Israel. Despite some slippage in concern for Israel among American Jews, most of them were still telling pollsters that their votes would be strongly influenced by the positions of the two candidates on the Jewish state. This being the case, Mr. McCain's long history of sympathy with Israel should have given him a distinct advantage over Mr. Obama, whose own history consisted of associating with outright enemies of the Jewish state like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the historian Rashid Khalidi.

I’ve never understood why so many Jews cuddle up to philosphies and movements likely to shove them into ovens.
I’ve had conversations where it was obvious that they didn’t really understand my yearning for individual liberty.
Maybe their tradition of collective action is just too big an influence to overcome.
In 1928 Al Smith, a Catholic, was the Democrat candidate.
There are many constituents of liberals that I do not understand how they can support liberalism and all that it entails.
First, Catholics. How can a Catholic even consider being a liberal when liberals want universal federally funded unlimited abortions which is both murder and genocide. It is like supporting serial killers.
Second, Jews. Liberals are a lot more willing to throw Israel under the bus in order to get a Palestinian state. Since Palestinians have shown that they do not know or even care how to run a government, control their own extremists, then they are not fit to have a state of their own. But that does not matter to liberals. Liberals only see the plight of the Palestinians and denounce Israel and Israelis every chance they get and try to tell them what they can and cannot do internationally. As long as a liberal resides in the WH, Israel should not listen or obey us. Israel needs to do what they think is right and just for themselves and their own country and its survival.
3. Blacks and minorities but especially blacks. Liberals like to claim they are for the poor but they are in fact elitist who only care about lining their own pockets and telling blacks what they want to hear come election time so that the blacks will vote to reelect them. But if blacks ever thought long and hard about it, they would come to realize that their circumstances do not change under liberalism. It is only under conservatism that raises blacks out of poverty and the ability to enter the middle class by giving them opportunities to improve their conditions, remain in school, get a job and make a living for themselves and their families to prosper. Elitist liberal democrats, even black elitist liberal politicians do not really care about black folks. When will the black population of this country wake up to reality?

As a hunted minority, they did develop something of a tendency to see the advantages to group activities, group support/funding, etc.

I guess you have to be a Jew to understand why such a high percentage are liberals. I know that the Jewish student organization at my university invites the most liberal democrats to come and speak to them. This group seems to believe that the government should pay for everything. I always get the feeling that they can find ways to avoid the taxes that everyone else has to pay.

Thoughts? It doesn’t help to explain you know plenty of conservatives. Can you explain the 78 percent?
That is your explanation going back to the beginning of recording the Jewish vote?
How about 1920 when just about the only people that voted for Socialist party candidate Eugene Debs were the Jews that gave him 38% of their vote?
How about after the years of giving democrats up to 90% of their vote, they even gave Jimmy Carter 71% against Gerald Ford?
Because I know the 22% that voted for McCain. Observant Jews. That’s the difference.

I do too, but I see WAY too many obama bumper stickers in the Jewish Community Center parking lot every day. Ant the TV’s on the treadmills and ellipticals are more likely to be on CNN rather than Fox News.
It’s a tradition for them to support the left. It goes back to their experience in Eastern Europe, and their history since the diaspora in general. I wish more of them would sit up and take notice that the friend of Israel’s enemies—the hard leftist Obama—is not their friend. There has got to be some serious cognitive dissonance for millions of them. I believe 2012 will see Obama earning fewer of their votes.

WASP fraction of GOP’s position on illegal alien is to blame. Jews have always been aliens in nations outside of Israel. Any anti-illegal alien party will not get much support from a good Jewish person. I myself is not very thrilled over Rush Limburgh’s rehtoric over illegal immigration, even though I admire the man greatly.

If only people has heeded GW Bush, granted green cards to many people who have been here for a long time, perhaps GOP would have gotten the victory in the election, the housing market would not have collapsed. I feel the migrant workers who risked so much and worked so hard for so little for their families have the same characteristics like most conservatives. What a good way to get more membership for conservatives. By years of hard labor, they would have earned their right to live here.
I think the possible way to remedy this situation would be granting green cards to illegal aliens who have been here for 7 years and more. Then you would have taken an issue away from Democrats’ hand.

Because most American Jews are not religious and liberalism has become their religion. That is why the more religious a Jew is, the more likely he is to be Republican, statistically.
