Protests brew over Cheney International Center

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - A decision by the University of Wyoming to name a new center for international students for former Vice President Dick Cheney is drawing criticism from people who say Cheney's support for the Iraq war and harsh interrogation techniques should disqualify him from the distinction.

The former vice president and wife Lynne are expected to attend Thursday's dedication of the new Cheney International Center on the Laramie campus.

Protesters plan to be there, too.

The center is funded in part with $3.2 million the Cheneys donated to the university in several installments while he was vice president.

The university's decision to name the center after Cheney, a former Wyoming congressman, prompted a petition that collected more than 150 signatures. The petition said policies of the Bush administration were "very controversial" and the name will affect how people perceive the center.

University President Tom Buchanan defended the naming decision in a recent opinion piece in the Casper Star-Tribune, writing "tolerance and diversity cut many ways," and the new center will benefit students.

"Whether you are Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, Catholic or Protestant, gay or straight, white or black, you are welcome at the University of Wyoming. Should we subject potential donors and the purpose of their gift to public referendum? I think not," Buchanan wrote.

They would have no problem with naming it for Joseph Stalin or other leftist murderers.

My last trip to Wyoming didn’t find the state overflowing with loony lefties. I suspect that most of the protestors will be from the Jackson area and/or bussed in.

My guess - largely outsiders.
And we know how much the people of Wyoming love liberals from outside coming in to tell them what to do...

I miss President Bush and VP Cheney.

I’d love to spend a weekend fishing with Cheney just hear his war stories. I have immense respect for him as a man and a patriot.

Speaking of Cheney...There’s a rumor that the Justice department is soon going to issue indictments that will thrill the ‘progressives’. (To soothe their pain if the health care takeover fails, IMHO)
Anyone?

Amen--former Green River and Gillette resident here. Someone should tell the "protestors" that the People's Republik of Boulderistan is about 2 hours south.

Fine by me, as long as we can ban anything being named after Obozo for his continuing support of the Afghan war and his continued use of Predators to blast apart those poor islamic terrorists who were just out for their evening strolls.

Sure would be nice if there were a bounty for those protestors that are being bussed in.

Who pays for all those costs, Barry Hussein?

Wow, a whole 150 signatures! I'm, like, so impressed!

“Speaking of Cheney...There’s a rumor that the Justice department is soon going to issue indictments that will thrill the ‘progressives’.”

This only leads to one door in the near term... “Quid pro Quo for the Obama Regime”

When Obama and company are out of power a full investigation on how they left US Citizens open for terrorists attacks, how they did not follow the Constitution in all they did, how they put the world at risk by closing Gitmo against all common sense, how they compromised the CIA operatives, how they helped their main financial backers make millions by loaning billions for tax payers to regimes that exploited their oil reserves, failure top pursue Democrats who profited from their political connections… etc. etc.
This list could be quite substantial by the time they are kicked out of office.

Are they stupid enough to “open the gate” for future reprisals or is this just a distraction when this Regime is tanking badly in the polls?
