TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 27, 2009 Fire up the barbies, and the flat screen TVs and join comedy legend Jerry Lewis for his 44th annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 6-7.
Im determined to keep fighting for a cure for muscular dystrophy because my kids deserve to live long and healthy lives, said Lewis, MDAs national chairman and Telethon star.

Jerry Lewis told him his hat looked stupid.
Then, Lewis was being given info by his floor manager--and he just looked at her, looked at the audience and said, "It's like working with Eva Braun. She's got a swastika on her ass THIS BIG," as he spread his arms apart.
That telethon is such a scam
Hows that, al?
I put some $$ in a fireman’s boot today at a red light.
All I will donate to them is a spanking.
I was flipping by last night. It’s a good cause. I saw them playing a tape of George Burns and a tape of him winning an Oscar recently. Sometimes you kinda forget about this not thinking that oh yeah its Labor Day weekend.
Good grief. Could we just delete this thread before its eventual contents are posted everywhere purporting to represent “conservative” behavior?
I’ve been in and out all day...it is painful watching Jerry Lewis....granted he’s 83 but still painful...
Years ago, I used to watch it 24/7. One year, Lewis was rude to the audience and kept calling women slang words like old broads. That was the last time I ever watched.
These conditions are inherited, and the different muscular dystrophies follow various inheritance patterns. The best-known type, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern, meaning that the mutated gene that causes the disorder is located on the X chromosome, one of the two sex chromosomes, and is thus considered sex-linked. In males (who have only one X chromosome), one altered copy of the gene in each cell is sufficient to cause the condition. In females (who have two X chromosomes), a mutation must generally be present in both copies of the gene to cause the disorder (relatively rare exceptions, manifesting carriers, do occur due to dosage compensation/X-inactivation). Males are therefore affected by X-linked recessive disorders much more often than females. A characteristic of X-linked inheritance is that fathers cannot pass X-linked traits to their sons.
The big bucks pays for those rich and wealthy researchers and their fat pensions. Very little goes to victims- overpriced camp( payoff), cheap equipment (used), quacky doctors doing check-ups (sorry nothing we can do for you). Wake up America!.
I remeber the old days when no less than 7 national and local networks carried the telethon. Now, just one. Granted I’ve always found JL to be a self important boor who get’s laughs at the deprecation of others but hey, he has contribited one helluva lot.
If “old broads” offends your sensitivities, how in the world have you even lasted a minuscule seven months here on FR?
OK, I’ll take your word for all that. Right.
JL is repulsive and gets paid very well to do what he does for MD.
WTF???
Howdy HG hope your having a good day
i checked in on the telethon twice today for only a few minutes. both times i was rewarded for my curiosity. 1st time a teenage magician was playing with scarves and said “now i say the magic words, that’s just like a man, i can’t say it’s just like a woman because that would be considered derogatory.” his tone was so dryly sarcastic, it was hilarious. a little later he said, “now i say the magic words, affirmative action.” this was accompanied by an eyeroll that was perfect.
second time i looked in i was awed by the Las Vegas Mass choir performance. those folks were fantastic.
I'm having a scrum-dilly-umptious day!
And you do it too!
Is that you, Mr. Rickles, ya hockey puck?
Just my Opinion from my mil experience with it
This thread is more entertaining than I remember the telethon to be...
It’s sad.
I admire Jerry Lewis for I believe genuinely wanting to help kids out.
Fact is, none of anyone ‘working’ to ‘cure’ MD or any other thing, do not wnat the cure to be found. Scientists might want it to have the honor of curing something, but the people that run these companies and labs don’t. They are all out of jobs if they do find a cure.
This stuff is all a scam with ignorant, genuinely concerned people fronting them. Nobody works to put themselves out of business.
I wonder if they did a tribute to Ed McMahon?
Yep, and Big Oil has that 400 mpg fuel injection system buried in their back yard.
Yes.

It’s a matter of good manners especially when you’re asking for favors.
I wonder that too. I watched a little bit last night. Charo. My gosh that woman has got to be close to 70 years old and she still has so much energy.
Anyway, maybe they’ll do a tribute to Ed at the end of the show this year. They really should. He did the telethon for 41 years straight. Only Jerry Lewis has been on more often.
Jerry Lewis has been doing essentially the same comedy routine for 60 years. You’ll live.
I’ll tell ya John W.
And I’ll be nice.
Many years ago on Davis Island in downtown Tampa there was a great skate rental place.
They held events year round to raise money for “jerry’s Kids”. Raised about $10,000 and felt great about it.
Seems the folks responsible came to town and asked the folks to meet them at Burns Steakhouse where they could give them the check/
After that, the skate rental place started giving locally to charity.
Just my two cents.
It doesn’t get more 5 star than Burns and that just doesn’t sem to be the way to spend the money
Naw, why bother? Obama is gonna kill alla Jerry’s kids off anyway.
sorry but al is correct...i’ve had friends working for both MDA and the Amercian Cancer Society... so little of that money actually does any good, it’s pathetic.. the bulk of the money goes for “administrative” costs, the rest going to line researchers pockets who have no real incentive to find a cure, since once they do, there goes their paycheck.
But, that was back in the day when the Rat Pack were frequent guests, and actors from all the old and cheesy movies that I watched came on, and my Grandparents were still alive...
It seems that Jerry has outlived them all, and he's the only one left. Even Ed is gone.

Very early this morning, I happened on the telethon in time to see four guys (caucasian) who are a doo wop group. Don’t recall their group name, but they play in Las Vegas. They sounded just like the original group singing the song, I think it was one of Smokey Robinson’s.
Uh Uh, give credit where credit is due - Obama and all democrats lining up in favor of Obamacare (Kennedycare - whatever), are in favor of cost costing, and we ALL know what that means in liberal-speak within their healthcare plan.
Kudos to Jerry Lewis.
Not Rickles, but Torme...Old Mel
MDA’s not getting a penny from my family until they stop using some of their funds to support embryonic stem cell research.
Relax, If “Mack Daddy the Zebra” gets his death care passed his death panel will just let those little children die or better yet causes them to die for the good of others.
Harvest the organs, "Yeah, that's the ticket."
It's part of his shtick, like Don Rickles insulting people and calling them "hockey pucks." Maybe you're too young to know this?
I bet I’m older than you.
But that's the best part! Bloads. Slags. One year he said "fags". Great stuff!
I'm 62, so if you're older than that, you're older than dirt.
you ignorance is showing
