After a summer of healthcare battles and sliding approval ratings for President Obama, the White House is facing a troubling new trend: The voters losing faith in the president are the ones he had worked hardest to attract.
New surveys show steep declines in Obama's approval ratings among whites -- including Democrats and independents -- who were crucial elements of the diverse coalition that helped elect the country's first black president.
Among white Democrats, Obama’s job approval rating has dropped 11 points since his 100-days mark in April, according to surveys by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. It has dropped by 9 points among white independents and whites over 50, and by 12 points among white women -- all groups that will be targeted by both parties in next year's midterm elections.
"While Obama has a lock on African Americans, his support among white voters seems to be almost in a free fall," said veteran Republican pollster Neil Newhouse.

I forget which poll it was, maybe Zogby? but Obama lost 11% support in the black community too, and lost support in the hispanic community too. So it’s not just whites.

Your sarcasm is spot on. The reason Obami "has a lock" on the black vote is because they are voting for him primarily because of his race. And that is the very definition of racism.
Some pundit, I believe Jonah Goldberg, described American blacks as the Palestinians of the Western Hemisphere. How utterly true. I do realize there are exceptions among the blacks, but to a large part they can be ignored by both parties because of their staunch support of Democrats and liberal policies. Classic DUmmies.

Absolutely not! It went down to 74%. Yes it’s still high, but to drop 11 points is a big drop.
Yet the LA Times needs to put some kind of angle on it beyond Obama just sinking in the polls--so why not inject the suggestion of whites being racist? Such always pleases the idols they worship.

What it proves is that Whites can recognize racism applied against them. Obama is very smooth, but others in his administration and other supporters are not. Rev. Wright is not the only example.

What were white people and many African Americans thinking? Rev Manning had this guy pegged but no one in the AA community listened.
I have said all along that the people who voted Democrat were not so much voting for Barack Obama, but voting against George W. Bush, and his brand of “compassionate conservatism” and general incompetence.
Blacks did not vote overwhelmingly for Obama because of his race. They voted overwhelmingly for Obama because they know Obama will pander to them more than McCain. When Republicans run black candidates blacks do not vote for them. They vote for the white democrat who’ll give them more “free” stuff.
If their support has eroded it is because of the failure of Zero to redistribute the wealth to the blacks as quickly as they thought he would do it.

Democrats strongly support preferential hiring and racial quotas for blacks. How else would Michelle Obama get into Yale?
