Facing incendiary charges that health-care reform would result in government financing of abortion and euthanasia, President Obama has made an unusual appeal to religious groups to help sell the plan and debunk critics' "false witness."
"I'm going to need the help of all of you," Obama told an August 19 conference call and live webcast that attracted an estimated 140,000 people. "I need you to knock on doors, talk to your neighbors. I need you to spread the facts and speak the truth."
The "40 Minutes for Health Reform" call, organized by the Washington-based group Faith in Public Life and supported by 32 religious organizations, was part of a campaign to get clergy and congregants actively involved in promoting health-care reform.
The president used the call to decry what he called "misinformation" and "divisive and deceptive attacks" in the ongoing debate. "There are some folks out there who are, frankly, bearing false witness," he said.
Obama called the idea that the legislation would include "death panels" to determine whether elderly patients live or die "an extraordinary lie." He said it was "not true" that the plans represent a "government takeover of health care" or "mean government funding of abortion."
"These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation, and that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper," he said.

Hey 0bama, separation of Church and State.
Ever hear of it?
After 8 years of protest from the Left, I guess it’s suddenly OK now that a Democrat is in office...
“...I am my brother’s keeper...”
So that was the punchline?
If my preacher ever brought this up in a sermon I would stand and ask every single congregant to deduct from their church offerings dollar for dollar the amount their federal taxes go up in outgoing years.
See if maybe then the clergy will change their mind over this issue.
This is a violation of the left’s own “separation of church and state!” Where the hell is the aCLU? Somebody wake those idiots up!
Doesn’t he also want those church members to “get in people’s faces” like he did during the campaign? He’s pathetic!!
It’s only a Constitutional no-no when the lie-berals want it to be.
So be it.

A PETITION ON FACEBOOK FOR CONSTITUTIONAL RESTORATION

Lol, I guess so!
It’s like Obama doesn’t even know what it’s like to live in the little socialist world he’s crafted.
That’s the set-up. “Your brother lives in a hut” is the actual punchline.
Just as Christ asked Rome to raise taxes at sword point on the Samaritans and Jews to pay for fish and bread and wine for Christians. You can see that, right? A moral obligation too.
Is it me? The article is dated SEPTEMBER 22, 2009..
The punchline is that he has a brother on Africa that lives in a shack and he can’t even take care of him.
Separation of Church & state is only for conservative churches and conservative politicians. Have you not been paying attention? Just like protests and questioning those in power is only for the left.
If there is no euthenasia, then WHY does Obama himself keep listing medical procedures which he claims you, your mom, or your kids, don’t need or shouldn’t receive?
This is what gets me, Obama keeps lecturing us that we and our family “don’t need” medical treatment we currently receive.
What else would you call that? It’s going to kill people.
IRS PUBLICATION Publication 1828 (Rev. 06-2008)
.Churches and religious organizations, like many other charitable organizations, qualify for exemption from federal income tax under IRC section 501(c)(3) and are generally eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. To qualify for tax-exempt status, such an organization must meet the following requirements (covered in greater detail throughout this publication):
--- the organization must be organized and operated exclusively for religious, educational, scientific, or other charitable purposes,
--- net earnings may not inure to the benefit of any private individual or shareholder,
--- no substantial part of its activity may be attempting to influence legislation,
--- the organization may not intervene in political campaigns, and
--- the organizations purposes and activities may not be illegal or violate fundamental public policy. ..................."
Weird. All I see is 9/6/09. Where are you looking?
Any church that tries this crap should be reported to the IRS.
Go to the linked article. I’ve heard of prophetic but this is ridiculous!
That would create a pretty little brouhaha.
Someone oughtta confront the Bummer and the Rat Congress over this. If they have no problem with Godrooting, then it should only be fair to unmuzzle the conservatives too.
LOL! You’re right!
That only applies to conservatives! Just ask the phonies at "Americans United for Separation of Church and State".

Faith in Public Life is a strategy center advancing faith in the public square as a positive and unifying force for justice, compassion and the common good.
Following the 2004 election, in which faith was often deployed in service of a narrow and partisan agenda, a diverse group of 40 religious leaders came together to advance a positive alternative: an inclusive and unifying faith movement advancing the common good in the public square. This group, including leaders such as Jim Wallis, Rabbi David Saperstein, Melissa Rogers, Rev. Jim Forbes, Ricken Patel and Sr. Catherine Pinkerton, envisioned a more robust and effective faith movement with the savvy, flexibility and nimbleness to thrive in a new political and media environment.
Jennifer Butler, Executive Director
Jennifer left her work at the UN to start Faith in Public Life. Her husband is a pastor at Journeys Crossing Church in Gaithersburg, MD (Ilovethischurch.org).
Katie Paris, Program and Communications Director
Katie has extensive professional political experience, having worked on Democratic gubernatorial, senatorial and presidential campaigns and as Research Director at Media Matters for America and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
organizing the Compassion Forum, in which religious leaders posed questions on issues like poverty, climate change and Darfur to then-Presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and helping launch new coalitions such as the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Christians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and We Believe Ohio.
Dan Nejfelt, Senior Communications Associate
Dan worked at Sojourners magazine as part of his graduate study of journalism at the University of Missouri. Prior to that, he taught remedial reading and writing to 7th and 8th graders in rural Arkansas as a Teach For America corps member.
Beth Dahlman, Online Organizer
Beth first moved to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Associate Program at NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby.
Kristin Williams, Media Relations Associate
In college, Kristin worked at Womens Campaign International, an NGO that helps build the political capacity of women around the globe. She also interned at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life
Board members include:
Nic Nicole Fulgham is the National Director of Faith Community Relations at Teach for America.
Dr. Nazir Khaja is a medical doctor and Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and is Chairman of the Board of Islamic Information Services (IIS) in California.
Ricken Patel is Executive Director of Avaaz.org.
Catherine Pinkerton is a lobbyist on Capitol Hill for NETWORK, a national Catholic social justice lobby.
Fred Rotondaro is a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.
Rev. Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite is professor of theology at Chicago Theological Seminary and senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.
Dr. Emilie Maureen Townes is the first Andrew W. Mellon Professor of African American Religion and Theology at Yale Divinity School.
So, apparently, these churches can serve Obama by becoming tax cheats.
Frighteningly, that actually makes sense.

Katie Paris serves as Program and Communications Director for Faith in Public Life, a strategy center for the faith community advancing faith in the public square as a unifying voice for justice and the common good.
"Shouting people down ... is not the American way," said Katie Paris, program and communications director of Faith in Public Life, during an Aug. 10 conference call with media to announce the "40 Days for Health Reform" initiative. "We won't let this issue get hijacked," she added. "We want to put real people back into the center of the discussions."
"So that was the punchline?"
Well, as a very close friend of mine says when ever he is "amazed" (and he got it for a comedian whose name escapes me at the moment), the punchline ( that applies for anything that comes out of Obamassiah's mouth because it's true) should be:
"Well RAISE MY RENT!!!"
Real people is new-speak for union workers.
B. H. Obama thinks he was elected Community Organizer for the entire country.
There is a memorable moment in Blazing Saddles, when Sheriff Bart (Cleavon Little) says, "Well, raise my rent. You are the kid" (Gene Wilder).
That might be it!!!
Thanks!!
This is another problem Barry can easily solve. Just let pro-life congressfolk to write in explicit prohibitions of all paths to government funded abortions and euthanasia. He won’t.
the churches are now his USEFUL IDIOTS.
Yep this is terrible apparently God doesn’t belong to anyone political party.
Fortunately the people that put God first in their lives already realize that.
“”I need you to knock on doors...”
Knock on my door and you’ll be needing right now medical insurance.
Oh hell no !!!!!
This is a common tactic used by the Obots when they feel some resistance to the plan. I believe of the Emanuels orchastrates it its not aimed at you or I, but at the sleeping masses.
Read Michelle Malkin’s latest book on the O’s and O-thuggery.
Oh... So now it’s ok for churches to talk to their congregations about political matters.
Seriously, why do we even give libs the time of day?
If Obama is this desperate, then his health care bill is dead in the water, and it’s that simple. Next up, cap n trade....
So she was sleeping with edweirds too... hmmm.
LLS
we constantly hear about churches being told to stay silent during election years or theyll lose their exempt status.....yet this seems just the same....
I would hope someone would have the initiative to alert the IRS
For this bunch the "facts" and the "truth" are moving targets.
Government intervention has been undermining health care in this country for 60 years. Failed policy after failed policy yielded nothing but failure and increased costs, and impetus to spend more money on proven to fail remedies.
As far as I can tell, thanks to government intervention, our health care premiums have been increased to pay for mental health disorders, high risk living (drinking, taking drugs, smoking, AIDS), sex change operations, cosmetic surgery, and other conditions associated with bad judgment, low intelligence, and lack of personal responsibility. There is no option for healthy, responsible people because the "system" needs their money.
Our warped and twisted health care system, thanks to trail lawyers like John Edwards, now has overkill on testing and other unnecessary procedures to protect the care givers from lawsuits. Just what is Obama going to "fix?"
I am sure that Democrats are good at calling names, and character assassination but not at focusing on substance.
It was better 60 years ago when we could pay as we go, and just have "hospitalization" insurance to cover accidents, appendicitis, etc. All of the extra coverages were imposed by the government, and its minions, like trail lawyers. And the Democrats say we need more government intervention!
Remember that the Department of Energy was instituted on 8-04-1977, to lesson our dependence on foreign oil. Now, 32 years later, the budget for the DoE is $24.2 billion/year, with 16,000 Federal employees. Exactly what do they do?
Remember Ted Kennedy's promises to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into our country in 1965?
Remember the original Social Security intent was to supplement our income, not be the sole source of income?
The government is good at making promises based on good intentions, only to be warped and twisted into something else that is as inefficient as can be, with the original intent only a faint memory.
