Curt Schilling, best known for his bloody-sock pitching heroics, may step up to the plate and run for U.S. Senate.
The retired Red Sox [team stats] ace said today in a telephone interview with NECN that even though his plate is full, hes been contacted to consider a run for the open seat held by the late Edward M. Kennedy. A Jan. 19 special election has been set by the governor to fill the post.

Do they really love him in Mass? They have habit of treating their players like s**t including Ted Williams, Clemens, etc.
Anyone think he can win? Smart guy as he kept a database of things and worked very hard to go from being a decent pitcher to a very good pitcher.

Ted Williams wasn't too fond of the fans to begin with. And Clemens committed the unforgivable sin (playing for the Yankees).
Schilling did do something that Williams and Clemens and a whole lot of other players didn't do. Win the World Series.
The thing with Schilling is if picked 10 random pictures of him, his mouth would be open in 9 of them. As such, I think he'd fit right in the Senate.

This reminds me of when the Illinois GOP was trying to get Mike Ditka to run for the retiring Pete Fitzgerald’s seat in 2004. He opted out, even though polls suggested he could win it running away.
Instead, it went to an unknown state legislator named Barack Obama.
This whole mess could’ve been derailed by Iron Mike if he’d had some iron spine.

electing a baseball player on the strength of his being a baseball player does not hit me as a good idea. Then again electing someone because he is the brother of a President wasn’t a particularly good idea either.

Oddly, Carl Yazstremski was always loved in the region. Fred Lynn, to my memory was not too badly booed even after he went to the Angels. Jerry Remy and Mark Burleson always got respect.
However, George "Boomer" Scott and Jim Rice (a premiere hitter in his time) were not treated so well. Hmmmmm, what's the difference between Remy and Burleson vs. Scott and Rice ... I wonder...

Yeah Curt ended the Bambino curse. ;-)
One of the best series was Schilling and Randy Johnson for AZ. Talk about two pitchers at the time. Randy Johnson just scared the hell out of batters.

The whole mess could've been derailed if the Illinois Republican Party didn't chase a mostly conservative, anti-machine, self-financing, incumbent U.S. Senator out of office.
That same group would have derailed Ditka if necessary, just like the Machine did to Dem. Glenn Poshard a few years back (non machine, pro-life. pro-gun Dem. won primary by mistake).

And it is entirely correct. Wait until this Senate seat is filled and see what part of that sentence is not true. Oh, the opportunity to have the first male Senator that is married to a man! This is way too important to be left to the bigots (AKA the voters). The Governor must be allowed to make this historic Senate appointment.

I seem to recall him vowing never to tip his hat to the fans after they (I was not alive at the time)booed him for flubbing a play. I believe it's in the Ken Burns documentary.
Randy Johnson just scared the hell out of batters.
Looks or ability? And don't forget left handed pitchers don't really need ability.

With Jim Bunning leaving, the U.S. Senate needs to fill their quota of former pitchers.
As for Ditka, it was his wife that killed his thoughts of running. She promised to divorce Ditka if he ran so he didn’t run.

No. I grew up around both in Connecticut. Red Sox fans are thin-skinned, but Yankee fans are pompous and overbearing. The Red Sox fans beat up on the Yankees and themselves. The Yankee fans sneer at everybody else. When I came of age, I gladly embraced the Dodgers as my team of choice, largely because of their long-standing feud with the Yankees.

Our accountant/financial planner has decided to run against, Castro lover ,William Delahunt. He says that it’s high time that ordinary citizens step up to the plate and defeat these career politicians. My husband and I will do what is necessary to help him. He’s a real Conservative and knows plenty about the economy. it will be an uphill battle but our Congressional district can be won with some straight talk. I hope.

That’s good to hear. We need some citizen legislators. That is how the Constitution was designed, not for it to become like a medieval system of dukes and lords, which in some jurisdictions with some families, it seems to have become.
Best of luck.

LOL! I once went to a wedding in NJ and met two guys who were distant cousins. Great guys and very funny plus smart. One of them was a rabid Mets fan.
The NE will do that to you. Met two guys at a business conference they were NY’er who movede to Penn. The one guy was a Giants nut.
I was getting sick of being in airports and seeing that Red Sox Nation and Patriots mania thing going on. Fortunately it has cooled off a bit.

Well, I'll give them credit for the Red Sox, as the fans were loyal and had more than their fair share of chokes/bad luck over the decades.
The Patriot nonsense is rather silly. I spent most of my life in Connecticut, known to be part of "New England." I knew ONE Patriots fan. ALL the dads were Giants fans (they stunk at the time). I became a Rams fan in part because I couldn't stand the Cowboys and their fans behavior. The thug-types were Jets fans. To find a Patriots fan I think you almost had to go all the way to Cape Cod. Boston is a baseball town, a basketball town, even a hockey town. It also has a good tradition of college football (BU/BC). It is NOT an NFL football town.
Frankly, it is ridiculous for one team to claim a six state region anyway. Oh, and they're cheaters, too.

Well the Cubs deserve the billy goat curse because Chicago is the festering crime and corruption den of evil that gave us Obama.
I like Schilling. I have a hard time with anything Boston because it makes me puke as it is synonymous with the Kennedys.
Jets fans are thugs and idiots. Patriots are cheats but Brady is a good QB. I was glad to see Eli break through as he is the quiet brother and Payton is bit of a big mouth.
