NEW YORK (CNN) -- Diane Sawyer will take over nightly news anchor duties for ABC when Charlie Gibson retires from "World News" at the end of this year, a network spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
Sawyer, 63, will be the second woman to be the solo host of an evening newscast for an American broadcast TV network.
Sawyer will take the chair in January, ABC's Jeffrey Schneider said.
Gibson, 66, and Sawyer worked together for years on ABC's morning show -- "Good Morning America" -- before Gibson was promoted over Sawyer to anchor ABC's "World News" in May 2006.

Nobody even watches the networks, let alone network news. I’d say put this old mare out to pasture except that’s exactly what they’re doing.

The picture that Yahoo has is not very flattering to either of them. Gibson looks like he’s almost ready to smile and Sawyer is...well I don’t know what she’s doing!

True story. I was walking near Columbus Circle in Manhattan and this well-dressed, aging broad strikes up a conversation with me. The kind of gal who might of been a looker during the Nixon administration. It took me a minute to figure out that she was offering me sex for money. It took me an additional minute to figure out she wasn’t Diane Sawyer.

Liberals never learn from failure. Why do the same stupid thing CBS did? No one wants to watch some liberal b***h read the “news”. For some laughs, watch Diane’s face when she talks to a Republican or conservative. It screws up like she’s sucking on a lemon.

She is married to Mike Nichols (director, writer and producer). He also happens to be a Huff Post contributing blogger according to his bio. Seeing as ABC is part of 0’s propaganda wing, maybe they wanted a big Hollywood connection to further involve “the Arts” in promoting 0’s policy ambitions.
Never have cared for Sawyer's style. A bit grating IMHO. Wonder why the change of guard? Did Charlie's granny glasses lose their appeal with his audience? Few though they may be.

I don’t particularly like Diane Sawyer, but she isn’t an obvious dimwit like Couric. Also not as perky.
However, all things considered the network could do a lot better for a lot less money and still remain idealogically [hard left] pure.
