LOS ANGELES A U.S. Forest Service official says the huge wildfire burning in the mountains north of Los Angeles was human-caused.
Deputy incident commander Carlton Joseph said Wednesday that it's not known specifically how it was started. Investigators will be trying to determine whether it was accidental or arson.
Carlton says investigators have leads that brought them to the conclusion but he will not give any further information. Carlton notes that the options were lightning or a human cause and lightning has been ruled out.

What, no lightning in L.A.?
;-)
Sure, of course: anthropomorphic global warming on a local level.
welp, those leftists always have bumper-stickers on their Vovlos that read, "Think globally, act locally."
Going out on a limb here, but I say Illegal Mexi-gang pot growers. They are like bugs across the rural, rugged western landscape. They are everywhere they think they can hide in our forests and mountains, and the guys who actually tend the crops are not the smartest in the bunch. Them accidentally starting a fire would not be a mental stretch for me.
Yep, humans at the EPA insisted on all kinds of air quality studies and other hurdles before they would let forest management do any controlled burns. Im guessing air quality is a bit worse under this.
I do hope the hurricane about to hit the Baja can travel far enough north to put that one out. I can’t imagine being a firefighter in that mess.
Maybe the next fire would start further north, say, nancy pelosi’s vineyards..
I have been watching the projected path. Yesterday the peak (toward the US) was about 50 miles south of San Diego Fri eve. Today it looks like 150 miles south of San Diego Sat eve. It’s losing steam.
Local TV weatherheads are pretty much ruling that out....at best, we'll just get a bit more humidity down here in the low desert.
Looks like new models for Jimena have it kind of stalling of the baja peninsula for a day or two.. earlier reports had it as unlikely SoCal would benefit from any moisture tossed around by Jimena.
Ah! I was right ... Pelosi is behind this for a distraction! (Just kidding, but could it really be that far from the truth?)
post 11 link is current location of Hurricane Jimena
Think ILLEGAL ALIEN encampment for drug growing and you will most likely be correct
Thanks but no thanks we are already fighting massive fires up this way too
If the fire gets close to Pelosi, her face will melt.
Wouldn’t be the first time this year here in California... more like the 3rd or 4th confirmed..
Yeah, you sure are.
What would explain the annual forest fires in all the previous years/

It wouldn’t be a stretch, IMO, to consider this a possible terrorist act as well.
Watch it. I own 2 Volvos. Proud member of the VRWC - volvo-owning right wing conspiracy...
I trust you submitted the requisite photos of the bumpers with your application to that august body?
Big forest in LA?
What off ramp is that on?
My bumpers are clean. I may have an apple sticker in the back window...
Rahm Emmanuel will blame republicans
May we then refer to it as a “man caused disaster”? What we used to call TERRORISM!
Everyone knows that Mexican pot growers are more careless with matches in the late summer/early fall.
But seriously, this fire is unlikely to have been caused by a pot growing operation. The origin of this fire seems to have been close to the Angeles Crest Highway near the ranger station (hence, "Station Fire) and only a couple of miles up the road from La Canada. I've been up there hiking lots of times and it's the most visited part of the National Forest by far. Not where you'd want your grow operation when, by going another ten or fifteen miles up the road and hiking back a couple of miles, you'd never see another soul all year.
And if it turns out to be a cigarette butt tossed out a car window, can we refer to smokers as terrorists from now on?
If it were a illegal Mexican (drug dealer or not) we would never hear about it because the authorities would try to cover it up.
I think it was a cigarette...
ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST - The Station Fire grew to 140,150 acres and is 22-percent contained, officials said Wednesday morning. The eight-day-old fire has burned 62 residences, caused 6 injuries and killed two Los Angeles County firefighters.
It continued spreading in several directions. On the northern border, it spread toward Acton. On the east, it spread toward Devils Canyon, according to Rachel Mailo of the U.S. Forest Service.
Officials are concerned about the fire’s general eastward direction.
“There is that potentiality for an increased threat to the populations in northeast Pasadena, the Altadena area again and Sierra Madre,” said Bruce Quintelier, am information officer with the U.S. Forest Service.

Not much of a limb...we KNOW Mexican drug cartels burned down 88,000 acres in Calif. last month. If it had been the Taliban growing poppies in our forests and parks perhaps someone would have noticed.

BAKER CITY, Ore. - A U.S. Forest Service employee is dead after being struck by a falling tree as he helped clean up a marijuana growing operation in eastern Oregon. Forest Service workers and members of the Baker County Narcotics Team were removing a marijuana garden in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest southwest of Unity when the dead tree toppled and hit the man Thursday morning. http://www.adn.com/nation/story/905973.html
Also, these cartels are now at war with each other over growing territory on OUR land!
Record marijuana grow pulled up by the roots in Siskiyou County

What is truly interesting about this story is that the local CBS TV affiliate, KTVL Channel 10 finally gets it. They actually did some reporting on these pot farms being run on public lands by organized Mexican Drug Cartels after years of many of us pleading with them to inform the public of this danger. What is frightening, is how real that danger has become.
This marijuana grow stretched 2 miles. For years, our local sheriffs have fought these incursions, only to watch them grow more widespread. Siskiyou county is a conservative, quiet sparsely populated huge land mass. Along peaceful country roads that have been settled by old families, independent, self reliant types, late in the night citizens now hear voices in Spanish conversing as they walk up and down patrolling.
We knew the cartels were armed, that they contained the worst elements of Mexican organized crime; the Zetas, various cartels, MS-13, awol military. What we didnt know, is now that their enterprise of growing on millions of acres of USA land became so successful , is that now the cartels are at war with each other over territory and contraband crops. One group may go in and cultivate the crop, only to have it taken with force by a better armed gang.
We have been warned for years in the counties of No.California and So. Oregon to stay clear of the woods, to never approach anything that looked like a pot farm.
Now we are being warned of the war between the cartels taking place on our peaceful country lanes. It is easier for the cartels to recruit laborers, with less risk to grow on these protected sanctuaries than it is in Mexico. Where shall we go to escape?

Fire less than 1/4 mile from my house. There was no lightning. My son is here and we’re just waiting, watering!
If you don’t hear from me, I’m outta here. Later.

HORNBROOK, Calif. — Crews are fighting a wildfire in Northern California, a few miles south of the Oregon state line near Hornbrook.
Fire officials say there are homes in the area and they are threatened, but no evacuation orders have been issued.
Called the Black fire after nearby Black Mountain, it started at about 2 this afternoon quickly grew to 45 acres. The California Department of Forestry says 3 helicopters, 4 tankers, 10 engine and several ground crews are fighting the fire. It is currently 40 percent contained.
We’ll have more information as it becomes available
That is some bitchen footage.

The LA area is just north of the influence of the sub-tropic weather zone.
A few muggy humid days this time of year; rarely any rainfall however.
Normal pattern.
Thanx. Been here since ‘59.

The "Griffith Park" fire doesnt look so big now does it?
“Thanx. Been here since 59.”
No problem.
I thought you might be from outside the area, looking at weather diagrams, seeing the subtropical pattern to the south, and thinking a summer rain would come and put out the fires.
The chance of significant rainfall this time of year is small.
I sure have a lot of respect for the firefighters who go lay their lives on the line, to protect people’s property.
Been here since ‘48.
I lived first along the Puente Hills, and saw several blazes as a kid.
Later my family moved to San Clemente, and saw a couple more fires that came over those hills, enough to level a few houses. From Camp Pendleton into the south end of the town.
Now I reside in the low area where tides, floods would more likely be the problem. Plus the Newport-Inglewood fault.
