Agreed. I would add NBC's Chet Huntley and David Brinkley to that list. They weren't bad. Even back in those days when I still watched network news I couldn't stand the sight of lefty scumbag Cronkite. Never trusted him.

Jessica Savitch died before you were born, but she was... something spectacular. Spectacular rise, spectacular fall and tragic death (which, ironically, wasn’t because of her drug habit, although it’s quite possible she’d have never been in the car in PA had her on-air “mistake” never occurred - she died like Mary Jo Kopechne did, but the driver of the car was knocked unconscious so he never felt it. Looking at that vid is disturbing when you realize she wasn’t even 3 weeks away from her death, it’s almost like you could see the Devil dancing on her shoulder). Awful personal life, too. Back in those days (just as cable tv was in its infancy), network tv news anchors were “big.” A very different time, to say the least.
