Obama is Losing His Base
Jewish World Review ^ | September 1, 2009 | Dick Morris & Eileen McGann

Posted on 09/02/2009 5:11:21 AM PDT by reaganaut1

The polls this week are a disaster for Barack Obama. Scott Rasmussen has his approval dropping to 45 percent, after several weeks at 49 percent. John Zogby has it even lower — at 42 percent.

Beneath the superficial data lies even worse news for the president. Not only is he losing support, but he is losing his political base. Young people — under 30 — long a key element of his support, give him no better than break-even ratings with 41 percent approving and 41 percent disapproving of the job he is doing according to Zogby. And only 75 percent of Democrats, who have supported Obama strongly in the past, now approve of the job he is doing.

Zogby reports that this low approval by his fellow partisans represents a slide of more than 10 points over the summer. Even blacks are becoming tepid in their backing for Obama, with only 74 percent approving of the job he is doing (also a drop of more than 10 points). Hispanics, who voted for Obama by a margin of more than 40 points, now break even, 36-36, on their rating of his job in office.

Independents, the key swing group in our politics, now deliver a sharply negative 37-50 verdict on Obama's performance in office, and the elderly also give him negative ratings by 42-51.

Now that Obama, weakened with lower ratings, confronts his party in Congress, he has few good options.

He obviously cannot get 60 votes for his health care proposals in their current form. No Republican will support them, and it is unlikely that moderate Democrats will vote with him.

I hope Dick Morris is right. Republicans should stick to their guns and support a limited health care reform plan that includes tort reform and the ability of individuals to deduct health insurance premiums (similar to the exclusion of employer-provided insurance from taxable income). If the Democrats want a much bigger government role, they should try pass a bill on their own.

Watch MSNBC, Maddow, Schulz and Olbermann. His base is upset over health care reform public option and it is getting worse. They will still vote for him, but not come out in numbers in the 2010 mideterm elections.

He set himself up into a political trap with Healthcare. Everyone to his right opposes his plan and everyone on his left will not be happy with anything short of a British style NHS.

The country is so divided now that it makes one wonder if a President will ever be able to govern from the center and be popular.

I tune in AirAmerica on the drive into work, because its the only live talk on at 4:30 in the morning. The hard left, the move-on ding-bats, the Kos Kids, are disgusted with Obama. Reasons; backing off single payer, tip toeing around public option, the war in Afghanistan, and bail out money, and on and on. To get these lefties back, Obama needs to make a hard left once again, and every time he does he looses the middle, the less liberal of the party, which probably makes up the larger proportion.

Like a true rookie, Obama has bit off more than he can chew, and burned his political capital way too early. He caused major hurt for himself and his party.

I’m curious as to what happens when Obambi’s true colors start to show (i.e. his birth certificate reveals that he’s not an American citizen, he’s found in contempt of the Constitution, a military coup, a recall vote, etc.)? In the historical aspect of our country, will it show him as Pres__ent with an asterisk, or will he be left out of American history altogether; a gap of a few years existing in our history books?

Something has GOT to give. I still don’t believe that the people of this country would fight and die for our Freedom, but I hope I’m wrong... Lord God, I hope I’m wrong.

“The country is so divided now that it makes one wonder if a President will ever be able to govern from the center and be popular.”

I’ve been thinking that too. But, there is a general disgust with big gov BS, that is what drove the pubbies out of congress.

Somebody needs to run on an HONESTY platform, and really mean it. That will get support even from many who will not agree with details of the agenda.

Bush got backed into a corner over the WMD issue, and “great job Brownie” certainly didn’t help. Other than that I think Bush was perceived of as honest, and I think he’ll be seen more that way as time passes.

Obama, I can barely say he is a liar, he is just a class A BS artist.

But, for once, the people are paying attention to CONGRESS and seeing what a bunch of clowns Pelosi, Reid, Frank, et al are. That can only be for the good, provided they remember next November.

There were a few reasons that people voted for him.
“Cool black guy”, “be a part of history”,

but I think the main reason for a lot of people was
the promise of, FINALLY, getting past the race issue
in America and moving on to something productive.

0bama and his minions he’s surrounded himself with
have made it clear that there is no way in hell
that they will let the race issue go away without
whitey getting punished for any and all past slights,
real or imagined.

RE :”Then some of the disapproval is because he isn't Marxist enough . That is not encouraging

You got the half full perspective. For the past few years republicans polled very much lower than democrats on all issues, including taxes and defense. That is reversed with democrats win in 2008. Plus, it is these (marxist) progressives that can destroy a compromise with RINOs in the Senate, as Ed Schulz on MSNBC is demanding.

Not everyone supporting the public plan is a Marxist. (Unless the republican party is Marxist too.) Many are young clueless people who think in simple terms that ‘government can fix it’ and don't have a clue how much trouble the federal government can cause trying to ‘fix things’.

One troubling issue is that some of these young (from democrats) are taxed for medicare(to republicans) , when they have no insurance themselves. Unfortunately rather than be against those taxes, they just want the feds to take care of them too,

Generally a good article with which I agree, except for this:

He has shown a willingness to move to the center on foreign policy, leaving troops in Iraq and adding them in Afghanistan.

The Illegal Alien is actually engaged in a subtle process of destroying our military, especially in Afghanistan, by deliberately placing them in a meat grinder, bleed to death on the installment plan, war they are prohibited from winning.

His hand picked commanding general talks more like a social worker than a general and has imposed horrific rules of engagement that, for example, prevent hot pursuit of terrorists into supposedly occupied dwellings. IOW he's created instant sanctuaries all across Afghanistan for the Taliban to use any time our forces press them and are likely to win. To this he's added interrogation restrictions that prevent any effective interrogation in a war that's essentially an intelligence war.

There is simply no way to win under these circumstances, no matter how many brave men and women we feed into this meat grinder, all because the Illegal Alien wants us to lose but wants to do it in a way he can pin on the military.

“O” was ‘packaged’ and sold to the American public by the MSM... I hope they have a strategy to restore his image in time for the next national election.

Time is on their side, but “O” is such an empty suit that fabricating redeeming qualities to redeem him now will be even more tricky than it was during the campaign when all they had to do was spit shine the surface.

If there was no substance there initially, how can the MSM renovate a void? I think “O” is in deep trouble. The events of the next couple years will only demonstrate more dramatically what his supporters already suspect… (What Conservatives knew from the beginning… there I told you so!)

He fooled some people but there were many predictions before the election that a president Obama would set race relations back 150 years. The media put him in office, if they had done their job for the past forty years this would be a vastly different country and I think much better off.

I disagree. It means that, no matter what Obama does, he will lose support. If he tries to continue to pretend he's a centrist, he will alienate the hard left. If he follows his true leftist nature, he will alienate the center. He will have a very difficult time rebuilding a majority in 2012 at this rate.

The problem with Bush was that he let the enemy define the battlefield. When these treasonous democrats like durban, kerry and kennedy were spewing forth those lies, he did nothing. Not a peep from the bully pulpit. When the public kept hearing the lies out there and no counter remarks from the Bush White House, people began to believe the lies.

There was a thread yesterday about Sept. 8 being when Obama will give a speech to school children. Teachers have been given a list of questions to ask, before and after the speech, to make sure the kids get the message. It’s taken for granted that teachers and students will agree 100% with what Obama says.

Why on earth do you believe this?

Because the Glory Days of war and heroism are dead; replaced with this fantastical suckling at the government teat and the thought that "Uncle Sam will protect you."

I spent my days at a teenager completely enmeshed in stories from WWII and Vietnam; stories of heroism and victory. Sadly, those stories aren't told anymore; not by parents to their children and absolutely not by our schools. In the 29 years that I've been alive, while I wasn't cognizant of it at the time, I can see now how bad things have gotten where children are taught that government is good and the Individual won't make it.

Recent garbage from Hollywood has dumbed down war and bastardized it into this pit of despair, but I talk to friends of mine, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers in the fields of battle in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they're living for the moment with their brothers and sisters. They absolutely believe in everything that they are doing out in the world, and THEY STILL BELIEVE in American exceptionalism. They have the thought in the back of their mind that they may die while fighting for their country, but God dammit, WHAT'S SO WRONG WITH THAT?

I would PROUDLY die for my country, because I would be serving a cause more noble than myself; I would be serving for my country and for the Freedom of my mother, my father, my brother, my family, my friends, and my fellow Countrymen and women. However, the thought of dying alone while trying to rally others to my banner is a thought that I cannot bear. Alone, we will all perish, but together, we will succeed.

Sadly, Pan_Yans Wife, I don't believe others in this country share my sentiment. I know plenty of FReepers would join me in battle, but the masses of this country would see us as Revolutionaries and the media would make us out to be treasonous scum. I would gladly give my life, my honor, my fortunes for this country. Would you?
