George Washington Bridge Worker Dozes on Job

Monday, 31 Aug 2009

MYFOXNY.COM - A security worker on the George Washington Bridge was apparently sleeping on the job, according to a northern New Jersey news Web site.

The Cliffview Pilot , which covers Bergen and Hudson counties, posted photos of a guard apparently dozing inside a guard booth near the New York side of the bridge Monday morning.

A bicyclist said he saw the man sleeping in the booth at 10:15 a.m. and snapped the photos.

Joey Lepore said it was the third time he has seen an attendant sleeping inside booths on the bridge, which connects Upper Manhattan to Fort Lee in Bergen County, N.J. He said he saw another guard sleeping on Aug. 5.

Security experts have long said that bridges and tunnels remain a prime target for terrorists.

the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, the Port Authority restricted photography on the bridge for security reasons

I guess now we know the REAL reason.

Yeah, he is incompetent but he cannot be fired. His union will place him in indefinite hold status while the grievance works its way through the system and the union continues to get paid for him.

Unions are the storm troopers of socialism.

Sleeping security guards are hardly big news- its been a plague to that profession for a long time. Afterall, it is pretty boring and they do give the guards a chair to sit in.

Some security outfits make the guards work by going to station to station with a key to show they are making rounds and awake.

If they were to try and fire him, he'd counter with charges of racism and probably be promoted to the head of the border patrol.

From the article:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey , which operates the bridge, has its own police that is the primary security force. The two guards seen sleeping in the booths worked for a security contractor, FJC Security, and have been fired.

Sounds like they did the right thing...

“Unions are the storm troopers of socialism. “

Know what Jesus said to the Union workers?

‘Don’t do anything ‘til I come back’.

He doesn't seem to have a care in the world. I might envy that, unless I had to drive across the bridge.

Big deal. If I were hired to spend 8 hours a day keeping watch for an event with far lower odds than being hit by lightning, I would be asleep too.

Imagine the millions of terrorist targets we have throughout the USA from political venues to hospitals to infrastructure to sports, you name it. Since 2001, how many terrorist attacks have any of these guards seen or prevented. Like, zero right? There have been a handful or two handfuls of minor attacks by either homegrown idiot muslim converts or terrorist who snuck in and attempted some minor attack.

Get it through your heads - the terrorists won! When we were told to surrender various liberties from privacy to physical access, the terrorists won. They won by making us spend billions on unnecessary security measures. They won by making us more nearly a police state. They won by making millions of locations that used to be accessible by the public, either inaccessible or being a gate you have to beg to enter or a metal detector you have to walk through.

I can’t walk a friend into the airport and wait with her anymore. I have to wave goodbye from the main area while she waits at the gate a half-hour in boredom alone. And for what?? There haven’t even been any thwarted attacks on airliners. And I don’t want to here the lame excuse that it is the increased security that is the reason. Bullcrap! There were no bombings or attacks in the WAITING areas by the airport gates. And there are no attacks that could be made by the gates that would not be equally successful in the restaurant area or near a crowded ticket counter. So this is complete and total bullcrap along with strip searches of grandma Swede in her wheelchair and making babies take off their diapers and not letting mom bring formula in a bottle on the plane.

Pure bullcrap!

We have lost numerous minor freedoms in a continuing infringement of our liberty all in the name of security. It’s all crap.

THE TERRORISTS WON! THEY COST US A BUNDLE AND CAUSED US TO LOSE A MYRIAD OF FREEDOMS. THEY WON.

“Say what? You know absolutely nothing about him and you can stand in judgment about the guy’s worth? Based on him falling asleep on the job? Wow.”

Did you bother reading the rest of the story?

“The two guards seen sleeping in the booths worked for a security contractor, FJC Security, and have been fired.”

So spare me your sermon.

I did read the story. He’s still not worthless. Incompetent and should have been fired, yes, but not worthless. You call that a sermon? All I’m saying is ‘words mean things.’
