Britain's release of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi-- the Libyan terrorist whose bomb blew up a plane over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, killing 270 people-- is galling enough in itself. But it is even more profoundly troubling as a sign of a larger mood that has been growing in the Western democracies in our time.
In ways large and small, domestically and internationally, the West is surrendering on the installment plan to Islamic extremists.
The ostensible reason for releasing al-Megrahi was compassion for a man terminally ill. It is ironic that this was said in Scotland, for exactly 250 years ago another Scotsman-- Adam Smith-- said, "Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent."

To read the faux 'intellectuals' on the left hyperventilate about EIT techniques used by the CIA is laughable. According to them, it is barbaric to waterboard a known terrorist to gain information on upcoming plots against our citizens, but it is perfectly acceptable to engage in 'drone' wars against the same enemy.
The inherent contradiction of the Obama administration's simultaneous investigation of the CIA and its continuation (some would argue expansion)of the extrajudicial assasinations of the likes of Baitullah Mehsud should be obvious to anyone with an IQ over 50.
Mehsuds killing provides a perfect illustration of the hypocrisy of the left. Mehsud was located inside Pakistan (a country we are not officially at war with), at the home of his second wife's parents. On a stifling hot night in a small village in South Waziristan, Pakistan, our drone captured images of who we thought was Mehsud. He was on the roof of his in-laws mud home, escaping the heat, and receiving a massage from his wife to help relieve the pain his diabetes was causing. Having 'confirmed' his identity, the CIA launched two hellfire missiles, which killed Mehsud, his wife, and many of his body guards.
The left has no issue with this type of killing, and chalks Mehsud's wifes death up as the 'collateral damage' which occurs in times of war. The very same left which condones and even encourages this 'drone war' then gets apoplectic when we waterboard a known terrorist like KSM. Their moral relativism is astonishing and would be funny if the survival of of country was not at stake.
I am grateful we still have men like Sowell to explain how naive and dangerous the left's approach to protecting our country is.
An excellent quote by Solzhenitsyn in the 1970’s and very relevant today. However, it is not just concessions and smiles by he elites. It is also treason, collaboration and actively conspiring against one’s country.
Obamacide for us. What a mistake the USA has made.
Sowell can explain complicated issues so that a 10 year old can understand. Too bad even he can’t explain it so that a liberal can understand.
The terrorist was received to cheering in his home country. They are laughing at the UK. Any rational country would block immigration from that country and expel anyone who is from there.

THERE SHALL BE PEACE IN OUR TIME. OR DID SOROS TELL ME IT WAS TIME TO SMASH AMERICA TO PIECES? Without Mr. Teleprompter, I get sooo confused any more
"The timid civilized world has found nothing with which to oppose the onslaught of a sudden revival of barefaced barbarity, other than concessions and smiles." Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
I thought that ANY soldier caught in enemy territory in anything OTHER than his own uniform could expect execution on sight. Is that correct?
Remember, they can’t understand it because they are the offspring of the aliens who invaded the earth beginning in the early 1900’s. from the planet URANUS !!!!

The Islam nations are the last one to get on the nuclear wagon and don’t have a world class military anything. They need to steal planes, improvise explosives and blow themselves up. Why the hell all this fear mongering? Time to get our noses out of the camel’s rump and keep an eye on Russia and China.
