Bob McDonnell defends thesis, blames Creigh Deeds

Bob McDonnell, the Republican nominee for governor in Virginia, defended himself Monday after the Washington Post reported that his 1989 master’s degree thesis advocated a number of controversial, socially conservative positions.

The Post reported Sunday that he described working women and feminists as "detrimental" to the family and said government policy should favor married couples over "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators."

McDonnell said repeatedly on a conference call with reporters that his views on many social issues have changed since he wrote the thesis, and blamed his Democratic opponent, state Sen. Creigh Deeds, for making polarizing social issues a “central issue in this campaign.”

“For the last month, my opponent seems to have been making social issues the focus of the campaign,” McDonnell said. “Senator Deeds continues to focus on divisive social issues. He runs a backwards looking campaign focused on former presidents, former governors and two decades old term papers.”

McDonnell pointed to his double-digit lead over Deeds as the motivation, though the Post story indicated that the reporters learned of the existence of the thesis from McDonnell himself in an earlier interview.

The Washinton Post is shamelessly schilling for the DNC. They aren't going to let Deeds go down without pulling out all the stops for him.

I should add that it’s interesting that the Post can find an obscure Graduate School thesis for a Republican candidate in a governor’s race, but they can’t seem to get their hands on a single piece of paper authored by Barack Obama prior to his entrance into the Illinois state Senate - to say nothing of the fact that they can’t even get their hands on those documents.

Hey, McDonnell’s thesis is an interesting read. I think he gets a bit too carried away with a few items, but he makes some excellent points.

Riiiight. The Washington Post still won’t help hound Barry or Harvard into letting go of his papers but a Republican candidate for VA governor? Sure, guys. How many copies do you need?!!

Shameless. It’s why the 5th column needs to go first.

What does he need to defend?
I don’t see anything there to disagree with.

"I don’t see anything there to disagree with."

I don't either. But, I think it's his comments on "working women" that might cause him some grief, especially in the Northern VA suburbs, where a fair percentage of women are actually in the workplace.

McDonnell made the mistake of saying and writing something that may be demonstrable true, but politically incorrect. Political correctness runs amok in Northern Virginia, especially in all things female.

OTOH, Jim Webb didnt have any trouble with the women of NOVA ... despite having written what were supposedly a lot more offensive words about them a few decades ago.

The original WashPost story bashing McDonnell for being a Christian:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/29/AR2009082902434.html?sid=ST2009082902758

The Dem line is that observant Jews and Christian are intolerant racist, sexist, homophobes.

Evil is good. Good is evil. Morality is bad. Fornication, porn, homosexuality, trans gender weirdness is good. Family, babies, granny, are all bad. Gay couples are quasi anointed ones. Those of us who don't get on board are hopeless dinosaurs brain washed by talk radio, churches, parents, and anybody with the ability to think.

The Washington Post always gets in a tizzy when someone proposes that marriage is a good idea. The place is overrun with libertines and homosexuals who not only don't care for permanant stable relationships they can't even comprehend how such a thing could happen.

I think the rot starts at the top ~ Warren Buffett and Donald Graham ~ it's their fault.

By now they should have figured out they are suffering from what can only be called "borderline personality disorder", so they should just back off from interfering in other people's business.

I want to know how they got his thesis when they can’t find the 0ne’s thesis.

I’d like to see them read my thesis. It is on the Commutative Product of Finite Semi-Groups. That would set them on fire.

I’m more pi**ed at him for saying that he has changed his positions since writing the thesis. Why can’t a conservative run as a conservative?

Bob sounds OK with me except for the "working women" - feminazis have been detrimental to the family.

Sarah seems to be OK with BOB and others - latest info from SarahPac, her contributions includes:

Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota
Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee
Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell...

"OTOH, Jim Webb didnt have any trouble with the women of NOVA "

Yes, but Webb has the Democrat trump card. He believes in the unlimited right of a mother to murder her unborn child. He could be a philandering pig with rumors of rape his in his past (à la Clinton), and as long as he had that trump card, he'd be golden.

Plus, do you think if it had been Webb that used the word "macaca", it would have ever seen the light of day? There are two sets of standards and outrage - one for Republicans, and none for Democrats, at least as far as WaPo is concerned.
