Rasmussen: Republicans Maintain Steady Lead on Generic Ballot
Rasmussen ^ | Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Posted on 08/26/2009 9:01:39 AM PDT by The_Victor

This summer brought a significant shift in voter preferences in the Generic Congressional Ballot. As Republican Congressional candidates once again lead Democrats by a 43% to 38% margin this week, this is now the ninth straight ballot the GOP has held a modest advantage.

Over the past nine weeks, Republicans have held a two-to-five point advantage over Democrats every week. It is important to note, however, that the recent shift is not only because Republicans have been gaining support, but that Democrats have slipped in support. While support for Republican candidates ranged from 41% to 43%, support for Democrats ranged from 37% to 39%.

Looking back one year ago, support was strikingly different for the parties. Throughout the summer of 2008, support for Democratic congressional candidates ranged from 45% to 48%. Republican support ranged from 34% to 37%.

Democrats held a six- or seven-point lead on the ballot for the first few weeks of 2009. That began to slip in early February, and from mid-April through June the two parties were roughly even.

Prior to the week of March 15, however, Democratic candidates held the advantage in on the Generic Ballot for several years.

Steady lead is fast becoming a HUGE lead. Americans don’t vote for Fascists once they’re exposed.

Thank you Rush, Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Mark Levin and the rest who are exposing America’s domestic political enemies.

2010 will be a victory for the future of liberty only if the candidates who win are committed to the principles upon which this nation was founded.

The Party label means nothing unless those elected have a passion for preserving freedom for future generations by understanding the ideas of liberty and firmly opposing the counterfeit idea of coercive government control (disguised as government "helping" us).

Don’t forget to be grateful for Mr. Obama’s messing up to the point of losing credibility. It’s not every day your political foe turns out to be Baghdad Bob.

We need a good plan for pulling free of that old model. It's not enough today to shove a copy of the Constitution in somebody's face. Don't forget that Obama and Co. are largely losing because they dared to mess with an entitlement that modern Americans hold sacred. The almost certain immediate GOP response is "less" or "smarter" government help (to chuck out the most destructive and foolish of the ideas) but not "no" government help.

What’s with Ras. calling a 5 point lead MODEST? If the Paries were reversed would it be called a commanding lead?

I am getting really tired of editoial comments being added to news reports, ALL I want is the FACTS. This goes for all media etc.

If the story is not id’d as commentary, let the people draw their own conclusions. Sorry Ras., you are pretty much the only polling group I trust, but my thoughts incude you too.

I'll believe it when I see it. Not a moment sooner.

It really does. These numbers are comparable to the support levels prior to 1994's mid-term elections.
