Vanity: Freepers, remember who you are [Kennedy Death]
Posted on 08/26/2009 5:41:22 AM PDT by Blogger
Today, a human being died. He is now in eternity. Whether or not he made any private repentance of what he did concerning Mary Jo, abortion, or any other sin he committed in this life is not known. We may doubt seriously that he did since he showed no inclination in his public life. But we do not know. Only God knows.
What we do know is that we have a longstanding tradition on Free Republic. We hold our tongues when someone dies. We do not act like the people on Democrat underground who rejoiced when Tony Snow and Ronald Reagan died. We do not make fun or light of death or hell, for they are very serious things indeed; and if Kennedy died without Christ where he is today isn't a place we should wish on anyone (if you understand the implications, you will understand that statement).
Yes, he did a very bad thing in the 60s. He did not get away with it and no amount of Freeper piling on will change things one way or another.
So, while you may have hated the man, please self moderate your comments. We are not the D.U. We are not the Koz. We are Free Republic and we can not allow them to make us into them or we have lost something very important about this site.

I would just say that the television coverage is completely over the top, I am already sickened by the praise heaped on Kennedy.

Okay question: Reagan wasn’t even cold before they starte accusing him of everything from fostering 9/11 to spreading AIDS (i.e Ted Rall). How long do I have to pretend I’m sorry Kennedy is dead?

I don't think we are rejoicing in his death....only rejoicing in justice being done...the kind of justice meted out when a human being meets their maker....
To: Blogger
Quite so. But a lot of FReepers believe this was a vanquishing of evil and choose to celebrate it as such. It’s a tragedy and a tragic waste for what this man could’ve done, and chose the wrong path (not just in the ‘60s, but the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and ‘00s, almost 47 years). It’s in God’s hands now.

In my opinion, not even for a nanosecond do you have to pretend to be sorry Ted Kennedy is dead. You should show sympathy and respect for his loved ones and those who loved him.
As for how the left treated Reagan... that’s the point. We don’t want to be like them.

I find this another day in which I will continue to try to wake up the American people to the fact that we have un-American disgraces in political office that want to destroy this country; steal our freedom; destroy our economy; and trample on our Constitution. The passing of Kennedy is minor, IMO, when we have “brave” American patriots dying in war to help protect and defend this nation. Mr. Kennedy did neither.
I suggest we mourn Americans that truly loved their country and their freedom; those that didn’t try to destroy it.

That isn’t what Blogger is saying, and I happen to agree with him. He is reminding us that we ought not to stoop to the level of our opponents, that we ought to show some decorum and a modicum of class.
That’s not sanctimony, that’s just good manners.

I hear you, but am really torn.
I firmly believe that one of the big reasons conservatives are in the trouble we’re in is because we hold our tongues! In the dirty fight, even when it’s warranted, we lose every time because of this attribute. To hear our elected representatives sing the praises of this man is almost too much to bear.
That said, we move on......

The only reason why I would show those 52% any sympathy is that they lack the brain cells and long-term memory needed to remember that this man is a murderer, and he skated like Scott Hamilton because of the power and money from his attention-whoring family.
