Peace activist Cindy Sheehan targets Obama’s vacation
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | 08.24.09 | Dave Cook

Cindy Sheehan, the peace activist who camped out in the summer of 2005 near President Bush’s Texas ranch, is heading for President Obama’s vacation site in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.

Ms. Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, said in a press release Monday that she would hold a press conference Wednesday morning at the Oak Bluff’s Elementary School on the island resort. That is where the White House press corps is working during the president’s vacation.

“We need to give the president the moral backbone he needs” to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Sheehan said last week, speaking on MSNBC. Sheehan seeks what she said is “immediate, complete, and as safe as possible withdrawal” from the Middle East.

Mr. Obama “doesn’t represent real change,” Sheehan charged, noting that July was the worst month yet for casualties of US soldiers in Afghanistan. The “only change I have seen in foreign policy is, unfortunately, things are getting worse” in Afghanistan and Iraq, Sheehan said on MSNBC.

Feeding a hungry press corps

With the president on vacation and mostly out of public sight, the White House press corps traveling with him to Martha’s Vineyard is hungry for news. Sheehan will likely get more coverage than if she called a press conference in Washington and had to compete with many other events for attention.

Her press conference will come as polls show declining public support for US military involvement in Afghanistan. This month’s ABC News/Washington Post poll found that Americans, by a margin of 51 percent to 47 percent, do not feel the war in Afghanistan is worth fighting. In the same poll, 45 percent of Americans felt the number of US troops in Afghanistan should be reduced, while 24 percent felt the number should be increased.

No sympathy for Sheehan. She got used by leftists and remains a communist sympathizer.

She's combing every square inch of Nantucket until she finds him, too.

Casey's name is on the 1st Cav Memorial. It's a much more dignified way to remember him.

Hey, it looks like President 0bama actually will find something in common with regular American citizens!
We both find Cindy Sheehan to be completely annoying!
Well, that's where our common ground ends.

i do feel sorry for this woman. i hope she someday finds peace within herself, and honors her son’s decisions and actions, rather than spitting on his sacrifice by contiuing to yell that he died for nothing.

She must be broke again. A little protest here, a little protest there … and she might make a buck or two. The press is no longer interested; therefore, she will soon have to get a real job.

My sentiments exactly. I have nothing against her. Her son was killed, which is a terrible grief, and she takes solace in leftism, which is a culture of anger, hatred, and despair. Her life must be hell, and that makes me feel sorry for her. I see parents who lost their sons fighting in Iraq, and they speak with pride and believe their sons fought for something. They are the ones we should see as role models in life.

I agree. She is wrong on the issue but she isn't changing her position just because the other party is in power now.

She's a better person than I thought she was. She has far more character than the people who were with her in Crawford but aren't with her in Martha's Vinyard.

Once a fruitcake, still a half baked fruitcake.

The left, the “liberals”, the “progressives” have no shame.

How can so many people be so disconnected from reality?

The Peace and Justice crowd in Bellingham, WA, held a fund raiser for Cindy Sheehan, the week before she left for Cape Cod. I’ve been pestering them on the web site of the local paper, about giving us updates on Cindy’s activities.

I disagree. Everything I know about Cindy Sheehan shows her as nothing more than a self centered attention whore. Her “principles” are consistent only if they support her enormous ego. Even so, I would have sympathy for her except for the vitriolic hate she displays toward those who disagree with her. I just can’t find it within myself to scrape together enough compassion for her to overcome her totally wacko communist-anarchist rambling diatribes delivered with her usual contempt for those of us who don’t recognize her genius.

And whoever said she was suffering is wrong. As long as someone is still paying attention to her and she can still read interviews with herself somewhere in the media, she is having fun.

But it is funny that she is now a thorn in the side of the left. It's just one more obvious illustration of the hypocrisy of the left and also the bias of the major players in the popular press. When she was spewing her anarchist-communist twaddle in Bush's front lawn she worthy of the front page, but now that she is an attention whore trying to take some of the stage lights away from Obama, she isn't so newsworthy.

I think this is great. Keep it up, Cindy - if you play your cards right, you can discredit yourself and your supporters as well as the Democratic Party and their cheerleaders among the news media at the same time.
