Just as the Obama administration tries to reassure people that the government can manage the health-care system more competently than what we have now, one of its single-payer systems demonstrates exactly what we can expect from ObamaCare. The VA mistakenly informed 1200 veterans that they have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrigs disease, a 100% fatal condition. They blamed it on a coding error (via JWF):
At least 1,200 veterans across the country have been mistakenly told by the Veterans Administration that they suffer from a fatal neurological disease.
One of the leaders of a Gulf War veterans group says panicked veterans from Alabama, Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming have contacted the group about the error.
Denise Nichols, the vice president of the National Gulf War Resource Center, says the VA is blaming a coding error for the mistake.

Did they get a copy of the Death Book with their diagnosis?
this story comes out after the VA starts to distribute the “end of life” document that was banned under the Bush Administration that Obama has now allowed to start being distributed.
Hopefully none of them ate their gun after the news.
Did they get a copy of the Death Book with their diagnosis?
I’ll bet that really got those 1200 vets all wee weed up.
It'll be 100% fatal to everyone in it.
Nope.. I am on the VA system.. and all this news scares the HELL out of me.
I wouldn’t wish ALS on anyone. You basically turn into nothing.
And the left keeps using the VA hospitals as an example of perfect government health care.
probably...
**I wouldnt wish ALS on anyone. You basically turn into nothing.**
Turn into nothing on the OUTSIDE... but the part of you that MAKES you ...YOU.. doesn’t change until the very end.
a Hemi engine in a truck with no Transmission or rearend.
My late husband was told by the VA that he had stomach cancer. He was terrified, as someone he knew had just died from it, only a few months after diagnosis.
Turns out he had an ulcer.
For many, many reasons, I would not trust the care of my loved one to the VA.
The urge to do so would be strong, especially if you have ever seen anyone die from this terrible disease. Gradual paralysis, eventually just lying in bed unable to speak but you can tell they are still in their by looking at their eyes. Simply an awful way to die and these dumb a**es tell 1200 people they have it!
My mom died of ALS,it’s a terrible disease.
That was my very first thought. Just imagine the hopelessness those folks must have felt.
My Mother passed away from ALS in March 2008. She went relatively quick, only 2.5 years. I know another guy that lingered for 9 years. His last working muscle that he controlled was one eyelid. He communicated with that one eyelid. He finally asked to be taken off of a breather and feeding tube.
My dad went to the VA for a checkup...did all the tests on his prostate...but he never was told he had cancer...until four years after the fact..by this time he was at stage 4...I wouldn’t trust the VA either....
This is inexcusable and injurious.
If ever there was a good argument against euthanasia, boy, this was it! Now, gentle victims, find yourselves some good lawyers and sue the britches off the jerks who did this to you (and hope I’m on the jury).
See Michelle, I told you that we had plenty of space to put all of the old and worthless Americans and worthless depressed and disabled veterans in and get them out of the way. We could put about 50 million of them in that big hole. Then, we can use their estate taxes to fund the 40 million former illegals, who are now legal citizens and our voters and needing free healthcare.

but ..IT WAS his CHOICE...NO ONE ELSES.
ObommaCare bump!
Did any of them take the “life not worth living” option??
Did any get assisted suicide?
Good Gawd, where is the Special Prosecutor?
Did I miss the DATE when this letter was sent?
The original source article says August 12.
Cash for Coffins
$6500 but you must act now.
We have a better deal with a cremation and a box for our ashes at our church.
Of course we haven’t seen ads to trade in coffin clunkers for new ones made by GM or Chrysler, yet.
Choice is what matters, the closed medical community in small towns can be deadly too.
Yes, a signed copy from Nancy Pelosi.
Thanks - sometimes finding key data is almost impossible. I would hate to have been on this list for 20 days, but I am glad it was not ten months.
Y’all are missing the point. Problem was coding error on a computer.
And Zero wants EVERYONE’S records on computer in Washington.
Connect the dots here, folks!
I get the feeling these hacks are trying to condition veterans to the idea that the VA system should be folded into their national health care fiasco.
Life is a 100% fatal condition. My evil sister was once mistakenly told by her physician that she had breast cancer. She was relieved to find out he had made a mistake. She was relieved. I just wanted to restate that in order to make it clear who was relieved.
Agreed.
hasn’t stephen hawking had als for like, 30 yrs or so now?
still in regards to veterans hospitals i would recommend a movie called “Article 99” kiefer sutherland, and ray liotta. great movie and (from what i have heard) acurate.

At least it was a mistake in their favor.
And Obama holds up the VA and the Post Office as examples for Obamacare. Oh, yeah, now I’m convinced!
This kind of stuff makes me afraid to take my diabetes meds when the VA sends them to me.
Good thing that couldn't happen under a Government run Public Option.
Same thing I was thinking. Can we trust any doctor participating in Obamacare?
My mother (aged75) was told her back ache was because of age and her doctor got her addicted to morphine for the pain...she finally saw another doctor (after 4 years of her treatments) and he told her, her back was broken in 4 places...He hooked her up with a surgeon and he fixed 3 of the breaks...the fourth fused itself after so many years of neglect. She still has some pain...but it is manageable. Her first Dr should be run out of business...quack/drug pusher
The Future is now. Could I get cheese on that soylent green, or does soylent green from a fat guy already include cheese?
“.......last working muscle that he controlled was one eyelid. He communicated with that one eyelid. He finally asked to be taken off of a breather and feeding tube.”
Yes. My Aunt. Identical story. So very sad. A lovely and vibrant personality in the form of an extremely active lady struck down hard and quickly by ALS. It was a real head spinner for all the family.
Based on the excellent comments here, I’d say that the 0bama Administration is already a caricature of itself.
It is true that suicide among veterans is very high....but it is little understood that it is the old veterans that have the high suicide ratenot the young veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Indeed suicide rates among young troops is no higher than that of male college students.
Personally.. I hate being poor myself..
Why dose the government wish to keep it that way? And drop me into a health care plan that would reduce the care that I already have?
