“The big draw isn’t domestic to Mexico but northward in the USA. When THAT stops paying big bucks, we may learn something.”

The narco terrorists of Mexico aren’t even bothering with growing weed there, it’s easier to grow it here...now the various cartels are fighting over territory rights of OUR public lands. And they burned down 850,000 acres in California last week.

The War Next Door is here....800 miles from the Mexican Border

Legalization will have to include production and sales to end the black market. That would help a bit, but only in Mexico.

The big improvement would come with total legalization in the US. That would really starve the beast.

“The Singapore model is the best model.”

Certainly that is true if non-drug costs are not included. The cost in the power you have to give to the government to effect a Singapore solution is high. Governments always eventually abuse the power.

Frankly, I think all the solutions are pretty bad. The problem is original sin. I’m not sure where the least worst societal response falls.

Yes, that is why Communism, socialism, welfare, etc., is evil. It rewards and makes possible those habits and lifestyles which should lead to destruction, so it encourages and rewards immorality and destructive behaviors. It destroys civil society and families.

If people are too strung out to get a job, they'd normally just starve or freeze to death - essentially, we'd have Mr. Darwin working his magic.

Another example of the twisted liberal mindset.

They jump up and down about Darwin and evolution, yet REFUSE to allow this major natural force to operate on humanity.

The Singapore model is the best model.

Really? Then explain why Singapore had nearly double the rate of addiction compared to the Netherlands. The figures are from the State Dept:

There are currently about 9,000 addicts undergoing rehabilitation in Singapore treatment centers, the same number as in 1995.

The Netherlands has extensive demand reduction programs and low-threshold medical services for addicts, who are also offered drug rehabilitation programs. Authorities believe such programs reach about 70-80 percent of the country's 25,000 hard-drug users.

--http://druglibrary.net/schaffer/GovPubs/ncsr/ (Note: the population of the Netherlands at that time was 15+ million. Singapore was 3+ million)

Or maybe you would prefer Iran's approach? They are apparently worse off than even Singapore:

Iran has the highest proportion of heroin addicts in the world and a growing Aids problem.

I was wondering the same. One FReeper speculated that this might be a way to attract more students back to border cities. I don’t know. But if alcohol contributed to the deaths of a certain amount of students, imagine what’s going to happen to them once they have lots of access to the downer drugs and they pass out.

They already have access to whatever drugs they want.

Getting caught with those drugs in a foreign country is another story.

Yeah, if your like your government to be totally authoritarian. Be careful what you wish for. The government can be authoritarian with more than just things that you don’t care for.
