When a person purchases a firearm from a licensed dealer, a form has to be filled out with all your personal information. Name, address, ssn, brand and model and calibur of the firearm and on and on. It is federal regristration. I have heard of some rule that the feds have to get rid of these forms after 6 months or something, but copies are kept somewhere. The control freaks in dc won’t get rid of that kind of information. Additional regristration is just for the local governments to know who has what and where. As for the Katrina aftermath, how did all those law enforcement agencies know where to go to confiscate the firearms? Regristration records. And they went after people who had not commited crimes, just had firearms. As for the real bad guys, the NOPD hunkered down until the military could take care of business. Things got real damn scary in south Lousiana after that storm.

I have seen the video where ozero makes the statement that he regrets that the Constitution limits what the government can do to the people of this country. The media and the gop completely ignored it. Thanks guys.

Mandatory registration of weapons is just as Constitutional as mandatory registration of speech. To avoid logical contradiction in the interpretation of the Constitution, either both would be Constitutional, or neither would be.

Firearms purchased from an FFL are already "registered" on a Form 4473. Imposing another registration is an infringement. It's not the buyer's problem if the government is negligent or careless in record keeping.

If an attempt to set a deadline for "registration" is imposed with some kind of punishment for "being late", it would amount to self-incrimination to subject yourself to such "punishment" after the "due" date.

Just remember to give them your ammo first.

Has there ever been a crime that was solved using the gun registration list?

Maybe we can get 2A moved to the "penumbra" where it might be taken more seriously.

I agree that’s what I keep telling my husband.

This was evident when they went knocking on door of legal gun purchasers in Houston in an effort to find all those guns being sent to Mexico...

10 USC 311 - Federal militias of several sorts still exist, including the ‘unorganized’ militia of all able bodied males ages 17-45. Current law of the land last updated in 1956.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

They have over thought this again.

"...shall not be infringed."

–verb (used with object) 1. to commit a breach or infraction of; violate or transgress: to infringe a copyright; to infringe a rule.

–verb (used without object) 2. to encroach or trespass (usually fol. by on or upon): Don't infringe on his privacy.

Still, it seems to go along with other ammendment that include verbiage as "...shall not be abridged." It seems to me that in the context of the constitution or by itself, laws are not to be made to interfere with the right of the citizens as specifically outlined in the ammendments. The Bill of Rights were written to outline what the government could not control.

Any idiot with half a brain that reads the Consitution and the supporting documentation of the period knows the intent of the Founding Fathers. Only a brain dead rock would make the assumption that registration is okay.

but, they keep pushing for a war... One we’ve tried to avoid for decades. They better be sure about what they are wishing for. Our nation will suffer if it comes down to it. I personally, would like to avoid a violent settlement of this matter. Gun Registration IS NOT Constitutional. It flies in the face of every aspect of the grounds our nation was built upon. If you want gun control, MOVE TO BRITAIN. WE DO NOT WANT IT HERE. Get it through your thick liberal skulls.

But after the D.C. v. Heller decision, it also may not violate the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Unless the 2nd Amendment has been rewritten, I could care less what Heller says. The bottom line is that gun registration is clearly infringment.

mandatory registration could be constitutional. It may not be the wisest public policy.

It's perfectly legal to poke a wasp nest with a stick... good luck with that.
