WASHINGTON — If you're planning a garage sale or organizing a church bazaar, you'd best beware: You could be breaking a new federal law. As part of a campaign called Resale Roundup, the federal government is cracking down on the secondhand sales of dangerous and defective products.

The initiative, which targets toys and other products for children, enforces a new provision that makes it a crime to resell anything that's been recalled by its manufacturer.

Well, before the 1980s some were printed with inks containing lead. So your Little Black Sambo would be verboten to resell.

It’s not just that.

Once people have to think about whether every little thing they do is breaking the law, It leaves them less time to think about other subjects ... like whether the government is going wild.

I happen to think the same thing of recycling ...

Meaningless distractions.

"(Important CPSC Ruling Update: The Consumer Product Safety Commission voted on April 3 to grant a one-year stay of enforcement on the lead ban that has outlawed youth OHV sales. [CPSC Chair Votes to Delay Lead Ban]. The stay of enforcement is due in no small part to the lobbying efforts of industry organizations and the letters of concerned riders to their legislators. The fight is not over, however, and riders should still encourage lawmakers to pass legislation that exemps OHV models from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act lead restrictions.)"

The “Ruling Class” of elitists knows better than we do,

and have a right and a duty to substitute their superior goals and decisions for ours.

That’s how they think.

It’s not that bad. I talked to a local second-hand store owner. She said you don’t have to worry as long as you do due diligence (google “recall [toyname]”).

I understand that some people didn’t turn their recalled products in for replacement, and a buyer even at a garage sale would want to know the toys aren’t death traps.

Of course I’ve seen dumb recalls. There was one for a lighter. “Do not use it until you have remediated the safety problem.” I thought, “Uh-oh, it’s going to blow up on me.” Turns out the “problem” was that they didn’t put the stupid warning sticker on. Yes, you were expected to contact them and have them ship a warning sticker for you to stick on before you use it.

Too many of these recalls are performed in paranoia of ambulance chasers.

Push it too far or too quick and you get massive pushback, though, defeating the purpose. The Obamites are ham handed and have no finesse.

I don’t like Federal workers. Always bothering people when they should not be
Fire half the Federal workers and we’ll do just fine. Let them find employment in the dreaded private sector

There’s a new game going around, at least, I hadn’t seen it before this year.

Similar to lawn darts, horse shoes, etc.

It has a piece of plywood with a hole in it on either end of the lane, and you toss a bean bag to land on the board or in the hole.

What cracked me up was that I first saw it at a church event and they called it “corn hole”, because the bags were filled with corn.

One enterprising firm is selling Jart parts. You have to reassemble them yourself.
